In a way I can understand peoples frustrations with paying for autographs and stuff (though the Adam West story was on another level), but if they aren't working, its one of the only ways they can get a decent income doing conventions.  As long as they are courteous and friendly to the fans and not asking for money in a rude manner, I think its fine for them to charge for autographs.  Was Piper very rude about charging for autographs and photos? Or was he actually friendly about it? Im not defending them or anything, just trying to see it from both sides.

No it wasnt the arrangment he made with the promoter, then I could understand.

Piper was at the fanexpo a few years ago and started on fri by doing the standerd autograph/get your picture with that you pay for at a con (and expect_ but by sunday he had all these hand made signs at his table charging for things like: pic taken with our camera (a cheap poloroid btw), pic with your camera, have piper leave a voicemail, have piper call a friend, put piper in a headlock etc etc. I twas really sad to see my hero like that and charging for stuff you wouldn't even think.

People ask for that stuff ALL the time. It actually makes perfect sense that he would charge for it.
The Fan Expo guys pay the airfare and hotel for the guests - SOMETIMES a fee... but in the case of Piper, I doubt they paid him a fee. So yeah, I would totally expect him to want money for stuff.

Where the celebs become dicks is when they meet someone on the street, that person asks for an autograph, and they want money for it. Happened to a friend of mine years ago when we met someone from the Maple Leafs walking down a street in Toronto (I honestly don't know who it was - it was 12 years ago).

Friday as well again. More info coming (hopefully) soon. Spare time to work on the CanJoeCon site - which is getting a complete overhaul - is sparse right now.

Like many more people, I can't wait to know more about the 2011 CJC set. Can you start with high level info like:
  • Number of figs?
  • Number of vehicles?
  • Cobra, GI Joe or mixed?
