GI Joe episode (in French)
« on: August 02, 2009, 09:05:21 PM »

Hi all,

Since Hasbro is only releasing GI Joe in English (again and again and again), I was wondering if any of you have those episodes in French (VHS or DVD). I would like to see those again.

PM me!

Martin

In the meantime, if you want to see again all the action with l'Ombrageux (Storm Shadow), Luc (Duke) and Zorro (Snake Eyes), see this: http://transformers.1fr1.net/gijoe-h18.htm

Yes I did. Saturday morning at TVA in French and Monday - Friday in English at channel 22 (whatever is that channel now)  :)

But, I have no souvenirs about them calling each other Luc, l'Ombragueux, Zorro, ... That is why I would like to see those again.

I also watched Gi joe for the first time when it was giving in french.

I remember that in one of the series Snake Eyes was even called "Oeil de Serpent" and then Zorro. But I can't seem to place when this occurred.

Channel 22 was Burlington's TV22....and I remember arriving in time from school to catch it at 4h30pm.

And yeah, I actually do remember Duke beeing called "Luc" in TRAH. Funny but true fact.

I think in the Mass device mini series, Snake Eyes was called Cagoulard which translate as hood wearing guy...

This is hilarious  Hey Language should never be a cultural barrier when it comes to understanding a practical joke, that you're right!

Well, if I were to translate literally word per word what it meant, it wouldn't be that funny, it would just sound like bad engrish.

"Doit-faire-D?r" would translate to "Must-Do-Hard", which sounds hu-hmmmm.... :-[ so it clearly doesn't mean at all the same thing as in french.

But in french, the expression "faire-D?r" is the equivalent of "to-look-akward"....

So following this logic, the french translation of "Got-to-get-tough-Yo-Joe!" would be "'Must-look-akward-ya-hoo!"

And there you have it. Instant french to english translation crash course of the first opening line of DIC's GI JOE in two minutes...

Must look awkward, yo joe!
Hahaha priceless.

I don't remember the DIC cartoon in french.
I don't even remember SE being called anything else but Zorro and Cagoulard.

Duke being called Luc feels weird. Hello my name is Conrad but my codename is Luc.
Evrybody on the team has a badass codename except me...

Anybody else remember Stalker being called Renard (fox) in the original mini-series.
How about Flint who was called Pro
