that's only one of 4 scripts hasbro/paramount commissioned, so take it with a very large grain of salt

I didn't mind the first four for mindless entertainment, but I couldn't even sit through Van Helsing.
-
To early to tell on the director....and I haven't watched those movies (I am not a movie guy). It will depend on the script, how much CGI will be used and what direction they go with (I suspect PG-13 for Hasbro to sell toys). Regardless, I don't expect this to be the GI JOE I grew up with (just like Transformers).
-
From Entertainment Weekly:
Stephen Sommers hired for G.I. Joe
Paramount has signed Sommers (director of the Mummy movies and Van Helsing) to helm what it hopes will become another hugely successful toy-based movie, ? la Transformers: a live-action G.I. Joe. The new flick, which will begin production in February for a 2009 release date, presents G.I. Joe not as any particular war hero but as a high-tech, Brussels-based operative force ? the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity ? that does battle with evil organization Cobra. The movie is said to be closer in tone to X-Men and Bond flicks than a war film. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce, along with Hasbro chief operating officer Brian Goldner.
"Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity"....Guess people in Europe won't buy tickets to see A Real American Hero.....that's ass....
-
As long as they make as many G.I.Joe toys as they made for the Transformers film I don't care what they want GI Joe to stand for. I'm in the frame of mind that the movie won't be what I expect it to be but I can say the same thing about Transformers the movie and I liked that one.
Still, the chances of this film being craptacular are high. Doesn't bother me at all because there is no way they are going to make G.I. Joe anything like the cartoon or comic. Cartoon was from another era and the comic is just way to involved for the average person who isn't in the know of Joe.
On a side note, I expect us to hit the # 50 mark for different versions of Snake Eyes if the movie does happen. That dude is like Batman. They'll give him a new outfit just to change a light bulb.
-
A brief story synopsis. I would say this is likely the truth, as it fits in perfect with the less than subtle questions the Hasbro Joe team were asking us at the con.

That's a TON of characters to bring into the first film. Although they don't name Joe names, that sounds like it's gotta be 15+ significant characters at a minimum.
Wow.

Sienna Miller has been cast as "The Baroness"

Who?
I don't know her at all.
-
I think she had a sex tape, or her husband was caught cheating, or something like that.
I have NO clue who she is. I didn't expect some big actors names to be attached to this anyway, but I'd at least like to look at the list of work she's done and go "Oh, ok, I've seen her before".
Upon checking her, I did find this: 2003 - Nominated for a Teen Choice Award : Breakout Star - Female for: "Keen Eddie" (2003)
And again I go "WHO"?
-
Born in 1981, she's only been around two more years than the original Baroness action figure.
-
she's jude law's ex girlfriend....she dumped him after it was reported that he was having an affair with his kid's nanny. after that, she was rumoured to be banging Daniel "james Bond" Craig, who she met while filming "Layer Cake"...a pretty good british gangster film in the same vein as "Snatch".
not my first pick to play the baroness...but then, i thought tobey mcguire was a bad choice for peter parker....
we'll see.....
-
She doesn't have the look to be the Baroness.
-
Makeup baby, makeup.
-
I don't see it anywhere else, so for those who didn't hear the Snake Eyes casting, here goes:

A great call. I actually think several of us voted for him when writing about "if we were casting the movie" a few months back.
I would've imagined him as Storm Shadow because he's kinda short, and I always imagined SE taller than his Asian brother.... ;D
-
I can dig him as Snake Eyes as long as they keep him a mute.

Copy that. And don't change the costume. I swear, if they change the costume...
-
Nothing to fear. It will be a perfectly faithful depiction of Snake-Eyes v4.

Woo hoo! Sounds good.

now if they can only get Seth Green as Cobra Commander

Seriously, though, that would be great.

I know that's why i said it, sinse the movie was said it was being released that was my first thought...the second is Michael Clarke Duncan as destro. Now can you see those two arguing....that'd be intense AND hillarous at the same time,,,,PERFECT, just like hte cartoon...actually maybe even better.

Oh man, I can picture that now, and it would own!

Thanks for Darren over at JC for posting this.
Storm Shadow casted: Byung-Hun Lee

Don't know who she is, but Rachel Nichols is reportedly the front runner for the Scarlett part.
After seeing a picture of her here http://www.beyondhollywood.com/byung-hu ... in-gi-joe/ (http://www.beyondhollywood.com/byung-hun-lee-is-storm-shadow-rachel-nichols-is-scarlett-in-gi-joe/) , I can see her as Scarlett.

Rachel Nicols is confirmed as Scarlett.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Mr. Eko from "Lost") will play Heavy Duty (NO ROADBLOCK??)
Sa?d Taghmaoui will play Breaker.

What the hell does Hasbro have against Roadblock? If they weren't replacing him with Heavy Duty I'd say they were racists.... come on man! Roadblock rocks. I don't give a crap about Heavy Duty - the dude is a walking ad for a Garbage Bag.
-
I remember talking with one of the Hasbro reps in New orleans about Heavy Duty. He was asking me my opinion on the Sigma Six Heavy Duty with Flame Blaster figure. He kept asking me about the toy itself, and I admitted I could never like a Heavy Duty figure. All I see when I look at him is "Not Roadblock".
The problem with replacing Heavy Duty with Roadblock is that marketeers in the 80s did a really good job of making us love this gentle giant, machine gun-totting gourmet chef that speaks in rhyme. Then marketeers in the 00s did a much worse job getting us to like Heavy Duty for the same reasons. It made us resent Heavy Duty that much more. Now HD is going to be in the movie instead of RB? I've never hated a fictional character for what he isn't so much.
-
Heavyduty's a Roadblock rip off!! BOOOOOOOO!!!!
Bring on the rhyming chef, man!!
-
Yeah, Heavy Duty is a poor man's Roadblock. I thought at first that the change a few years ago was because they didn't have the rights to the name anymore or something, but I gather that is not the case.
If I recall, they did change the names of some of the Transformers characters mentioned during casting. Unless there is some legal reason, I could see HD/RB changing too.
Also, I'm disappointed by the casting of Breaker - althought I do see the need for diversity, especially given the plotline for the movie. I guess I was surprised he's even in the movie, if only by name.
However, they will appease me, if he at least chews gum and blows bubbles constantly! That would be a fair homage to the original character!

If he DOESN'T, then he's not freaking Breaker.
-
What if they use the cartoon version of Breaker, with beard and no gum chewing action? Wouldn't bother me.

Sorry, I was just being a fanboy... To me, the comic versions are the definitive versions of the characters. :P
-
Breaker blew a gum bubble in one episode of the cartoon. He and Lady Jaye infiltrated Flint's home town after he failed to return from leave. Ends up Cobra had the whole town hypnotized. Lady Jaye chastised Breaker for making noise with his gum and Breaker explained that no one in that town was reacting to anything.

New pics of Sienna Miller as the Baroness.
I am now convinced she can do it.

Coolness. I can see that making a decent action figure.

Not convienced yet.....
