Title: gi joe movie gets weirder....
Post by: Radio Guy on January 08, 2008, 03:55:13 PM
just posted today:

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've said it many times before and I'll probably say it many more times before I'm sitting in the theater and lights dim as GI JOE begins rolling through the projector (or spinning on the harddrive, whatever the case may be), but goddamn is this a weird project.

Marlon Wayans, who did the most amazing one-two punch of performances ever... with REQUIEM FOR A DREAM and DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, looks to be on the project now. He'll play Ripcord, a leader of the military unit.

The trades also mention Joseph Gordon-Levitt in negotiations to join the flick... Keep in mind this is a GI JOE movie, scripted by Stuart "COLLATERAL" Beattie, helmed by Stephen Sommers (yikes) and starring Darth Maul, Mr. Eko, Sienna Miller and now Marlon Wayans and possibly Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

How bizarre.

Oh no!
Wayans brothers are like box office poison!  Ripcord???
It was all downhill after "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" and maybe "The Last Boyscout"

Yeah, me too, but that was the peak.  Hence, 'downhill from there'.  Only more sharp and sudden.  Perhaps "all downcliff from there" is better.

No more big name actors are necessary.  I'd rather they save that money for effects/story, whatever.  They have the main actors now don't they?

For the most part it looks as though most of the casting is done, with the exception of Cobra Commander.  Mind you these are still rumors until Hasbro confirms them.  I heard on an entertainment program ET I think they are suppose to start shooting in February.

A change has been made to the G.I. Joe cast - Who to play Destro. A devastating blow has been dealt to David Murray, the actor set to star as Destro in the new G.I. Joe film. Seems he had unforeseen problems getting into the United States and wasn?t able to get a work VISA in time for the film?s start date of Wednesday February 13th.

Studio sources say Murray is a phenomenal actor with a great body of work and are disheartened that he was unable to get his immigration issues in order before the film was set to start shooting. Well, although the higher ups were dismayed that Murray would not be able to play the role, what?s a studio to do other than re-cast? Paramount Pictures has confirmed, the actor will no longer be in the film, instead they have given the role of Destro to Chris Eccleston.

Chris Eccleston has been on Heroes and was Dr. Who for a season. He actually looks a bit more like Destro and has a decent resume for this sort of film.

G.I. Joe begins filming this week.

Larry Hama's thoughts so far.....

As for the movie....I am trying to get an open mind about it. But the part with Wayans being Ripcord (instead of using the name Stalker) has already lost me.  I don't care if the movie takes a Sci-Fi spin instead of a military one, but don't screw around with established characters because some nit wit may take offence to a guy named Stalker.

Stalker has always been my fave.  To think he will never be featured is a disappointing thought.

Although, once when I called my self Stalker in a game or Laser Quest, the attendant looked up and me and said "Really........." like I had been wathcing her outside of her bedroom or something.

Regardless, die-hard Joe fans (nerds of the highest order) might be upset that the *African-American heavy-metal gunner Roadblock has been replaced with the character Heavy Duty - an EXTREME '90s update of the character (who is apparently Roadblock's son). To most comic book store employees, this is surely a outrageous move, not in the spirit of the original concept, worth logging on to message boards and firing up a storm of indignant vitriol.

Aside from mocking us for having a hobby he doesn't have, Roadblock's son? The hell?

Nerds of the highest order.  Cute.  I bet he took all day to come up with that.  Planting my foot up his ignorant and ill-informed ass would be quicker though.  What a loser.
