Title: Oreobuilder's Customs Vault - Daily Updates
Post by: Oreobuilder on November 20, 2011, 07:37:05 PM
So I've been doing customs for a while now. I haven't taken the time to photograph and submit all of them, so this is me playing catch up. Over the next few days, I'll be submitting the stuff that I've had lying around. Some of it was unfinished, some it has been done for a while and some was created very recently. Anyway, let's get things started.

I've been wanting to do some Sgt Savage characters for a while. I never really got past the Sgt himself. So until I throw together some more of the cast, here is Sgt Savage.

As always, comments, good or bad, are welcome.

Man, I'll be the first to say that you captured very the WW2 feel on this guy, down to the dark tones. This guy doesn't look all square as in the cartoon, but then again this is faithful translation of him in the modern era. And you chose the right parts for the job and captured the grim look on his face which is well put in value by his holding the American flag. Well done OB!

I like it alot. I'm not very familiar with Sgt. Savage but regardless it looks pretty sweet.

The 1998 - 2007 period was up and down for Joes, but it did produce some memorable new characters. Widescope... wasn't one of them. Basically a Shockwave clone, Widescope added another SWAT member to the Joe team. Never one to be deterred by the sheer pointlessness of a character, here is my quick custom.

Enjoy!

nice.

why do you think a SWAT team member is pointless?
Title: Re: Oreobuilder's Customs Vault - Daily Updates
Post by: Oreobuilder on November 22, 2011, 08:03:26 PM
Thanks.

Sundance, I guess I meant pointless in the sense of redundant. The Joes already have a SWAT specialist who is dressed in blue and black and wears a balaclava and baseball cap. Hasbro didn't really need to create such a similar character. It could have been a SWAT guy with a totally different look. But maybe it's just me  :)

Staying with the 1998-2007 period characters, here is my take on Surefire.

Enjoy!

Lol, yeah it does seem like an unlikely mix of accessories, but I'm gonna blame Hasbro for that. The original figure came with that same mix.

I didn't get a chance to post a new custom yesterday, so I'll have 2 ready to go a bit later in the day. I'm just waiting for my camera batteries.

I didn't get a chance to post a new custom yesterday, so here are two to make up for it.

Staying with the 1998-2007 period characters, here are a couple of simple custom, my versions of Big Brawler and Spytroops Chief Torpedo.

Enjoy!

I really like your Big Brawler figure. Simple but works very well. That Torpedo looks like fantastic. I see I'm not the only guy who has started to cut off the old JvC heads.

One head I'd like to work on some time is the Neo Viper. I'm just waiting for my orde4r from BigBadToystore to show up. I get the Dreadnok / Slaughter set with the extra Resolute figures. I figure there should be some good custom fodder in there.  ;)

Yeah, I love those JvC and VvV head.  The plastic is so soft.  I do all my mods with an exacto knife and several different sized drill bits.

What head is used for Surefire?

Nighthawk, Surefire's head is a Pit Commando head. It fit the helmet the best..

Stay tuned for another custom...

The new sculpt kick continues. Inspired by the Club's effort, and given the fact that I won't be getting the subscription, I threw together a Barrel Roll of my own.

Nice work!  I like your Sure Fire and Barrel Roll better than the Club's choice of parts/colors.
I'm glad you did Barrel Roll's glider out of a CLAW, it's exactly what I wanted to see on Tan Grunt.

Unless your hands have turned in claws like mine have, there is no such thing as Modern Warfare.  ;) What system are you on again?

Back on topic, OB I love the Barrel Roll figure. Simple and it works. Bombstrike I'm not really sold on.  She needs more paint.

I like them all.  They are nice.  I did mine a lot more simply in that I made my Stall brothers without paint and used their original heads.

I do like what you've done on yours though, but your Barrel Roll is my favourite of the bunch.

After a break of a few days to take care of some personal stuff, here are a few new customs.

These are part of my ''Spare Parts Brigade''. I wanted to see if I  could use up some of those RoC Neo Viper bodies that I had lying around. This is what I came up with. The idea was inspired by the VvV Black Dragon Ninja (http://yojoe.com/action/05/blackdragonninja2.shtml) as well as Black Dragon - the convention figure (http://yojoe.com/action/03/blackdragon.shtml). Althought my versions are far from a direct copy of the originals, I'm pretty happy with the result.

Comments are always welcome.

Staying with the ninja theme a little, here is my version of Slice. Since I hate painting red, I used Red Ninja as a base and swapped out the arms and feet for Cobra Diver. The reds match up really well and make the custom completely playable.

I love both. First off, SLice is just awesome. I want to copy that and next time I see a Cobra diver for cheap, I think I will. Great work.

The Black Dragon I like because it's more proof that the RoC Neo Viper body is the greatest figure ever to build off for customs.

Excellent work!

Damn!  I just traded my Cobra Diver!  Never thought of doing this for my Slice.  I just left the Red Ninja arms on him.

love the last three customs you did.  whose legs are blackouts originally?
Title: Re: Oreobuilder's Customs Vault - Daily Updates
Post by: Oreobuilder on December 05, 2011, 09:47:48 PM
Thanks guys. The Diver arms aren't 100% compatible with the Red Ninja torso. The ''knob'' that connects the arms to the torso needs a little cutting and ajusting to make it fit, but it's a simple enough fix.

B, Blackout's upper legs are Reso Duke and the lower legs are RoC Neo-Viper. More proof that you're right about the Neo Viper's custom potential, Mogardee  :)

That's not a big issue for me.  I had to shave off alot of the knob and even widen the upper arm hole when I was modding the Duke arms onto my Sneak Peek custom. :)

Been there, done that. The hardest part of the CJC 2011 convention set this year was the arm swap for Captain Ruin. The Winter Tele Viper gloves / lower arms were too large for the Winter Scrap Iron upper arms. Eventually I just took my dremel to every Winter Scrap iron upper arm and made the hole a touch larger. That and boiling and popping 500 arms was not fun. Burned my finger tips pretty good on that job.  :(

So, how many of you saw this coming? Couldn't do Slice without Dice. And since I won't be getting the sub, here is my take. I used a darker shade of purple than the Club's version, but it's mostly the same recipe (except the torso).

Anyway, feel free to comment.

Yours too are very good Nighthawk, but I believe that they could look much much stellar if you painted them or even added some touch-ups. You seem to be very gifted with the tools and to have a lot of dexterity and patience: these are also some of the fundamental requirements for painting. And painting is so much fun, believe me. I'm not even an pro painter but I just love how some very simple paint gives a whole new life to my customs.

Thanks for your kind words.  I just don't have the time to deal with paint right now with a second child coming too.  I do everything in the garage and it's cold there so it's hard for paint to dry.  I don't bring anything into the house cause I don't want to expose my daughter to paints and stuff too cause she's almost 2 and she likes to get into everything new to her.  Safest way is to just not have it.  Plus, I like playing with my figures.  When I painted before, no matter what I did, I couldn't have paint as durable as Hasbro's so paint rub would always be an issue so that's why I've stopped painting.  The last real painting I did was my removable helmet Mjr Bludd I made where I painted hair on him.
