Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / G.I. Joe tabletop game
« on: February 27, 2007, 10:32:28 AM »
As I've been saying for years now - a Joe meet is not complete without some sort of G.I. Joe play. So I'm proposing a melee based G.I. Joe tabletop game to play at the meet this year.

I'm working on a rough set of rules, but if anyone has any suggestions or ideas over the next month, I'm open to ideas. In fact, I'll even go as far as to encourage collaborative suggestions.

Here's the basic premise:

-4 players - free for all
-4 Joes per player, teams can be any mix of good, evil characters. (if anyone has suggestions for team bonuses based on theme, i.e. an all ninja team might get a speed bonus or an all-Viper team might get confused extra easily and can take their turns out of order - throw 'em in here)
-Each figure has 3 hit points. We'll determine this with "score-cards" to keep track.
-Play is turn-based, going 'round the table and through the "rosters". (so after 16 turns, every character will have moved)
-Game ends when there is only one team left. Surviving team gets a +3 bonus to their score.
-Points are determined by "kills". (only the final blow counts)
-Attacks work as follows: enemy targets must be within "range" (I will bring rulers) and a 10-sided die is rolled. If 7 or higher is rolled, the defender must roll to defend, if the attackers roll is beaten, then the attack is defended. Otherwise, the defender is damaged. i.e. Crazylegs attacks Raptor and rolls an "8". Raptor rolls to defend. If Raptor rolls an "8", "9" or "10" the attack is defended, otherwise he takes a point of damage.

Any interested players post in this thread and suggest your rosters, rule suggestions etc. (no worries about who gets what roster, we can have duplicate figures in battle) You can also suggest a rule even if you're not playing.

Off Topic / Fire Hydrant (Jon's band) in Hamilton
« on: February 06, 2007, 10:33:56 PM »
Hey,

Just a quick note to let you guys know that my band Fire Hydrant will be in Hamilton on February 18th. It will be our first time out there so if you can make it down, we'd really appreciate it. The door is $PWYC (pay what you can) and if you let me know that you're a JoeCanuck'er, I'll give you a 2 for 1 deal on our CD if you feel like buying.

We're playing at Club Absinthe with The Postage Stamps - a space rock outfit with some of the prettiest melodies this side of the Atlantic.

Ontario / new WWE stuff at TRU
« on: September 16, 2006, 08:12:40 PM »
so I was at TRU Dufferin Mall today...

Diesel/Hogan wave is in. Fabulous Moolah is already warming pegs (lemme know if you still need one Mike and I'll grab 'er, tho I suspect you will have next to no trouble finding one yourself) I grabbed an IRS (Money Inc. together at last!!), 1-2-3 Kid and Ken Shamrock. Still on the hunt for Rick Steiner.

The new Treacherous Trios set is in. MNM (Melina, Nitro, Mercury), Benoit/Booker T/Orton and Mark Henry/Daivari/Kurt Angle. Probably the best Kurt Angle we've seen yet. They finally gave him a proper singlet and he's got his lowtops now. I'm tempted to grab one. Anyone wanna split the set? I don't really want/need Henry or Daivari.

General Joe Talk / Jon in NYC
« on: September 01, 2006, 09:00:44 PM »
I'm in NYC right now and going to Times Square TRU tomorrow. If there's anything you guys have been craving, I can pick it up. I just ask that you request only one item per person. I will do the best that I can.

I just know how crappy it is that none of you guys get any good stateside stuff. I'll check my PM's in the morning.

Was a riot.

There he was, chomping away at chocolate covered donuts and grape soda. Seemed like a nice guy. I'm surprised the place wasn't completely mobbed, but I guess G.I.Joe is kinda passe these days...

Off Topic / X-Men 3: The Last Straw
« on: May 29, 2006, 05:43:57 PM »
I've already trashed this movie on three other message boards, but my fury exceeds their capacity (much like the fury of the Phoenix exceeds the mortal body of Jean Grey) The biggest slap in the face to all X-Men fans is that after having the bulk of the first three films devoted to Wolverine, he's going to have his own spin-off movie. When I think of all the screen time that went to him instead of other X-Men, I wonder if maybe it's the X-Men who need a spin-off movie away from Wolverine. Call it "the forgotten" and include obscure characters such as Archangel, Gambit, Psylocke, Colossus, Jubilee, Bishop, Havok and other characters who weren't given a fair shake in the films. But then, such a straight-to-DVD fodder release would probably tarnish the characters even more than X3 did (I'm the Juggernaut, b@#$h!)

At least there's a Magneto film on the way...

For anyone who hasn't seen Friday's comic...

So true about the new CG figure. Simply terrific.

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Crimson Crazylegs
« on: April 07, 2006, 11:35:08 AM »
I will be bringing the infamous Crimson Crazylegs from the 2004 meet. If anybody has any spare parts lying around we can create a newer, stranger Crazylegs at the meet!

I grabbed myself a Carlito ("I spit in the face...") and Eddie Guerrero ("lyin', cheatin' stealin')

All that's left is Heidenreich and the Repetitive-Boring-Matches/Has-Been-Kid Shawn Michaels, but another box should be arriving soon hopefully.
