Ontario / Avengers Toys
« on: February 28, 2012, 12:12:27 PM »
I'm sure we are all starting to see Avengers toys at TRU.

I have now seen some at other places.

Walmart had a limited selection at Pharmacy/Eglinton, but they did have something I hadn't seen yet.  A remote controlled Quinjet.  It doesn't fly, but rather runs on the ground on wheels.  It looks like the toy version but mostly grey.

Zellers has the Avengers line as well, but the only thing I saw there that no one else has yet is the Quinjet ($40).  Otherwise it was pretty much what TRU has.

General Joe Talk / Gi Joe #10. I never knew....
« on: February 02, 2012, 02:00:28 PM »
They were such big fans of ARAH vehicles.

Previously we saw the Mamba, Stinger, Night Attack Chopper and all the good versions of the HISS.

This issue we get Rattlers, the Mean Dog, the ROCC and a mass of Buzz Boars that kick UN ass!!!

This current storyline is really great, and a real throwback to the original Marvel run.

Looks like the one we saw Snake Eyes riding through the base gate in the trailer.  I wonder who it will be paired with in the toy line?

Off Topic / Avengers Toys listed on TRU website.

Looks like some really interesting stuff, along with a ton of "re-released" items with a new paint job.  The Quinjet looks really great, unfortunately it looks like it will suffer from "Skystriker syndrome" with only 1 pilot seat.  Oh well, can't wait for better pics of the Helicarrier (and price).

Also, it looks like a new vehicle to me (Ground Assault Vehicle) with Captain America.  Interesting look, but I would need to see it in person to really get a feel for if I like it or not.

Oh, it also says February 26th is the estimated shippind date.

So in case you haven't seen it, here are some pics to whet your appetite for the upcoming year.

Needless to say, I am customizing this bad boy into a Cobra Carrier, and the Quinjet is going to someone in the Joeverse, especially with an included Sky-Cycle!!!

General Joe Talk / So what do you think of the Grey Hiss??
« on: January 21, 2012, 03:41:39 PM »
In the latest issues of IDW's JOE-verse, Cobra has deployed a massive force and while green camoflage Mambas were truly badass, the Slate Grey HISS tanks with Red Canopies really stuck out.

We have seen quite the number of repaints/colour schemes for the HISS tank over the years, but I really think this new colour scheme is something that should be considered by Hasbro.

General Joe Talk / Your 10 Joes and 10 Cobras??
« on: January 21, 2012, 03:34:49 PM »
Ok, so with the new CC in the IDW universe, it got me to thinking who I must have on either side in the fight if I were to reboot/restart a Joe-verse.

As for me, I will list them here now, but I want to know who you think should be "must haves" on each side.  I decided on 10 since 5 was a little too small a group and more than 10 starts to become cumbersome.  ALSO, don't be afraid to draw from any universe you like, it doesn't have to be specifically one universe.

Here are my choices:

COBRA:

Cobra Commander (IDW version killed by Chuckles)
Destro (DDP version)
Baroness (ARAH toon, the voice just does it for me)
Zartan (Renegades, I just liked the more standard Biker thug type)
Firefly (Marvel Comic, this was a close one, I really like the Renegades take on the character)
Storm Shadow (Resolute, just because little was done to water down the character since there was little time to do so, and he killed Bazooka!!!)
Major Bludd (IDW, this is what I have envisioned Bludd to be like, a much more complex character than simply a merc, although Renegades was just so badass it was close)
Tomax/Xamot (Renegades.  They found a way to change the characters that I didn't see coming)
Dr. Venom (Marvel Comic.  The original mad scientist)

JOES:

Duke (ARAH.  Still the top dog in my mind to this day.  The epitome of a squad leader)
Scarlett (Marvel Comic.  This was probably the best take on the character to date.  The newer takes are pretty standard, but Marvel Scarlett was a combo of traditional women's role and modern woman)
Snake Eyes (Marvel Comic.  Best version to date.  Modern takes make him too "super" for my tastes)
Roadblock (I'm going to go out on a limb and say Retaliation!!!  The Rock is going to make this character classic.  Second place to ARAH)
Shipwreck (ARAH.  Really is there any choice?  A bad Jack Nicholson?? voice combined with a shady character/letch!!!  Also a talking parrot!!!  Perfect)
ACE (Marvel Comic.  The great take on a traditional Fighter Pilot stereotype.)
Beach Head (ARAH.  I don't know why I like this version, but I like the voice and the portrayal of someone who thinks he should be in charge but isn't and is just waiting for his turn).
Mainframe (Marvel comic.  The best take on what a field specialist should be, a guy who gets the job done and people underestimate.)
Chuckles (IDW.  Hands down the best take on the character period.)
Low Light (ARAH, only because he was the sort of dark, or as dark as an 80s cartoon guy could be).

So there you have it.  For Cobra, I really like the IDW Serpentor, but I didn't see a need to add him before anyone else on the list.  For GI JOE I felt there was no need to have HAWK as I feel the unit is something that would get passed around as needed to different departments/generals.

Ontario / POC at Walmart
« on: January 13, 2012, 12:56:02 PM »
Saw this morning at Walmart (Eglinton/Pharmacy) a case of wave??  The one with Blowtorch (regular colours don't get excited), Cobra Trooper, Steel Brigade, Jungle Bat, Hawk, CC.  Not in the system so I don't know what price they were, but at least there is something.  Too bad it is such an old wave.  Oh well.

Ontario / $20 Skyfighters at Walmart.
« on: January 04, 2012, 09:43:25 PM »
I'm on my phone so I can't get the link posted properly, but over on actionfigurenews.ca there is a sighting of $20 Skyfighters at a Walmart in Ontario.  Knowing what the poster has posted before it is likely at the Square One Walmart.

Off Topic / What was your last "crazy" deal?
« on: December 21, 2011, 08:59:59 PM »
This is just something I had to post since I scored a pretty crazy deal at Walmart the other day.  Granted it is nothing toy related, but I had to post it anyway.

I was doing some shopping at Walmart and came across the Coca-Cola 400ml "ornament" ball bottles.  There were only 3 left and the sign said $0.50.  So I took the 3, and something inside me said to double check to be sure.  When I scanned one it came up $0.05!!!!!!!

Needless to say I went back and scoured everywhere and found 11 more in an opened case on the top shelf.  So I managed to score 14 of them for $0.70!!!

That plus the $10 SW Fighters and $2 Captain America figs made for a "reasonable" spending spree.

General Joe Talk / How many figures should a new transport vehicle hold?
« on: December 16, 2011, 07:04:25 PM »
So the gold standard in my opinion is still the original APC.  What, by today's standards, would be considered both a large and boring toy I still see as a classic.

It got me to thinking.  In your opinion what would be a good number of figures for a new transport vehicle to carry?  I figured that a "large" vehicle would probably be cost prohibitive for Hasbro unless it was something closer to a playset/vehicle combo like the republic shuttle from Star Wars.  I know we have had a couple of different transport type vehicles over the years.  The BAT APC, Cobra Ringneck, Rhino even.  However nothing that really captured the old school combo of vehicle and carry case.

Personally I would think that any new transport would have to have space for at least 12 figures plus 2 "drivers".   Along with at least two small weapons stations or 1 large one.
