All Across Canada / Re: Zellers Clearance Sale on G.I. Joe
« on: May 25, 2011, 11:05:52 PM »
Zellers is doing a major clearance on a bunch of their toys....they just want to move all this old stock....joes, transformers, iron man, marvel. Hopefully to make room for some newer stuff.

These things would have sat on the shelves for an eternity and may very well still even after this sale ends. The 4 pack doesn't look like it's moving. I can't believe the rhino was originally priced at $79.99, before getting slashed to $49.99 and now $19.99....so that's a great deal.

..saw some Combat Heroes (wave 3) in a Jean-Coutu today! I don't collect them but I think it's a rare wave no?? If someone's interested lmk!
Yes, Wave 3 is the cancelled Wave that you pretty much can't find in stores.  Tour De Jeux in the Eaton Centre (food court level) has them, too, but that's a specialty store, so I'm assuming they cost more than the Jean Coutu.

yup, only released on Canada. However, they were available in abundance. I wouldn't call them rare, as I do still come across these things from time to time in all sorts of different places.  After TRU, they ended up at all kinds of places like Jean Coutu during the holidays, and weird outlets where they remained forever. I'm not a big fan of the combat heroes or any other line in this size, but I snagged the complete set for $13.98, $3,49 a piece some time ago. For that price I couldn't turn them down.

Thought I'd share the news. There have been rumours for years, but today it's finally official.
Target has purchased Zellers from HBC. You can read the article here: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2011/01/13/target-zelles-takeover.html

What's everyone's thoughts?

Still nothing at the Brossard TRU.  I might pay them a visit tomorrow and see what's shakin'.

I've given up on TRU when searching for joes...they barely have any other toyline on the shelves unless it's transformers, star wars and lego.

At least if you were in any other province in Canada, there would be more selection of toys...well slightly. With the French laws, we don't get toys with English only packaging, which is why we almost never see any TRU exclusives here. The freakin' site won't even ship to Quebec if the packaging is in English.

I know, man.  We don't get it easy, here.  Didn't we chat about this at the comic con? ;D
What annoys me more is looking at the packaging after having jumped through hoops to get the toy.  It says right on the box/card "Longueuil, QC."  I live in Brossard, two towns away from Longueuil.  If I decide to go cycling or ride a single bus, I'm in Longueuil.  I went to roughly the Longueuil city limits daily in high school and Cegep.  My girlfriend lives in Longueuil.  Yet, if I want to get a figure that was made there, I have to order it online and have it shipped from Texas. ::)

Yeah, we had a good chat. Hasbro's Canadian HQ is situated in Longueuil...where they make the decisions to or not to bring certain exclusives to Quebec or exclude. No actual toys there me thinks.

I was the Guardian from ReBoot.  I spoke with latinjoe and Madman and meant to say hi to you.  Sorry I missed you, man. :-

Then I think I saw you. So close, and yet so far.

EDIT: Also, my biggest surprise was to find out that Scramble set up at the Comicon. Did you bring any Joes Scramble? I would've come to see you, a trade would've been easier on both our wallets at the end of the day :)

No Joes, I was set up in artist alley promoting my storybook line, Mrs Fritz's Kids. We gave out a fair share of promotional bookmarks but sales did not cover costs, so I doubt we'll set up at a comic convention again in the near future. Madman did buy one of our books for his nephew though, which was pretty cool.

Hey Scramble,
Meant to reply for the longest time, but have been real busy. It was great to see you again, and to meet Alan. I think what you're doing is awesome, but yeah, the comic-con wasn't the best place to showcase, as it's a completely different crowd there. Not the right audience, but it was worth a shot I suppose.

I gave the book to my nephew, and he sat down and read it out loud to me as soon as I gave it to him. I could see that he was really enjoying the book. He kept cracking up with each student's explanation for Mrs.Fritz's hair.

Also, it was good to meet SEOAP finally as well as see some familiar faces again.

How is parking in that area?

OB

Usually good. If you can't find parking on Decarie, there's some immediately around the corner on Dupuis.

That or you can always ask Madman, he drives to get there.

Parking shouldn't be an issue...usually free parking all around.

Very nice.

How come you didn't ask Larry Hama to draw lightfoot for you instead?

Larry Hama didn't seem to give a bizwacks about Lightfoot when I showed him the figure....On the other hand, Mr. Trimpe was very honored to draw him for me and it showed.

Was it that he didn't care to do it or didn't recall the character? Don't think Hama would turn down a request. He's done so many characters across so many lines, it's tough to remember them all....but you did have the fig as a reference.

Hm... go on... ;D  Is the store near a metro station or something?

off island. It's not next to a metro nor does it have a bus route.

There were still two about a week and a half ago, but can check this coming weekend and pick one up for you if it's still available.

I saw one ROC Night Raven at the Comicon but how much the seller was asking for it, I don't know. My guess is he probably bought it at Walmart for 10$ and is reselling it. He only had that from the newer stuff.
Thanks.  Yeah, I saw it too and figured the same thing.
