How far does your love of G.I. Joe go?
« on: January 03, 2012, 03:07:36 PM »

So Fub Publishing has released the image of one of next years 2012 convention set figure. It's Soundwave from the Shattered Glass universe where the Autobots are the bad guys.

What's interesting to note is the Cold Slither logo on the side.

How far does your collecting itch for all things G.I. Joe go?

Personally I can pass on this one and I think they might be cashing in on the Starscream SDCC 2011 craze, but can you really blame them?  :D

The only thing that draws me to this is Soundwave.  Not the Cold Slither logo.

But I am pretty much done with TF.  Thinking about trading them in at my LCS for a Flagg.

I like the gimmick, but not enough to buy it.
I would've bought the Starscream if it was available at Zellers like the Skystrikers are.
It's tough to convince me to buy a new toy in general.

I was never a fan of the Gi joe / Transformers crossover comic books so I feel the same way about a Transformer figure with GI joe references to it. I didn't feel like buying the Snowcat Transformer figure either when It came out. However had it not been for a matter of price tag, I was almost tempted by the SDCC Starscream mainly because the vehicle is essentially still a Gi joe vehicle in scale with the figures, and not a robot that transforms into a vehicle too small for joes.

I'll skip on the Soundwave.  I love G.I. Joe, but that feels more like a Transformer toy to me, and I love Transformers but not enough to be buying a bunch of them.

I do want the Starscream Skystriker.  That is an awesome vehicle.  I especially want the Megatron pistol.  The price tag is the big factor on me not picking it up.  I don't mind paying lots of money for Joes but sometimes my wallet won't let me go overboard.

My love of G.I. Joe has led to me picking up stuff I probably shouldn't though.  An example of this is the other G.I. Joe stuff.  In my collection I have G.I. Joe Valentine cards (ROC) and some party favour stuff from 1988.  My wife was at a Goodwill 11 years ago and grabbed a party favour set for $1.48.  I got Repeater Hats and Shockwave noise makers.  It's fun to have that stuff laying around.

I especially want the Megatron pistol.

You can get an excellent G.I. Joe scaled Megatron pistol for 99 cents from Marauder Gun Runners:

This is the exact same gun that was used in the 2009 HATE tank set. It was the side arm for the Frostback trooper.

Love Joe.....and I enjoy transformers, but it's really apple and oranges. If I had a big chunk of change to spend it would most def be on my joe collection. My Figs are like my little kids (nope don't have any kids) I just have a passion for them and it's just been in my life for so long. Never board! :P

Ha.  Nice "I love Rock 'N Roll" bumper sticker!  I don't follow Transformer stuff, so I have to ask:  if Shattered Glass Soundwave is a good guy, then is Cold Slither (or the Dreadnoks) a real band or good guys in that universe too?
I did have an obsession with 1982-86 licensed stuff like the Dekka tableware and UNO cards and lunch box, etc (love the early artwork).  I think I stopped when non-toy GI Joe stuff became hard to find dirt cheap.

all i know of Shattered Glass is that the Autobots are evil and the 'cons are good. it's like the Star Trek Mirror Universe or something...

I love GI Joe toys and this is a Transformers with a GI Joe sticker, so I won't hunt it down.
Plus in that reversed universe, Cold Slither might be a Boy Band...
