...so I suppose it's go Flames go..

I already knew the Leafs would fall to Philly. Philly is to Toronto as Toronto is to Ottawa. I think the Sens would have matched up better than the Leafs against the Flyers.

At least the Leafs put up a better fight than my Habs.

Anyone who thought the Leafs had a chance for the cup needs to realize 1 thing:

It isn't going to happen.

I will tell you why: No incentive.

The management of the leafs will only shell out the big $$$ for the best players when they have incentive to.

How hard is it to get tickets to a regular season leafs game? Near impossible

How much merchandise is sold with the leafs logo? More than any other club.

Basically, as long as the ACC sells out every game, and they sell leafs merchandise hand over fist, they will never spend the money on the players they need to get the cup. Why would they? It would only be cutting into their bottom line. Sure, a cup would increase merchandise sales by some - but not nearly by the amount it would cost to pay the players they would need to get the cup.

So, all you leaf fans out there need to come to the realization that the Toronto Maple Leafs club (along with every other major sports club) is first and foremost a business. One that wants to make as much money as they can.  If it doesn't make financial sense, they won't do it.

A Stanley Cup does not make financial sense for Toronto.

Someone on the radio had put my exact thought into these exact words:
The Leafs are a great playoff team, but not a cup team.

This was the year as the Leafs loaded up and were committed to winning the cup.  They have the 4th highest payroll in the league.  If the Leafs only cared about the money, then they wouldn't be in the top 10 in salaries.  They would just put out a farm team and still sell the ACC (they did this in the 1980s).  They made trades at the deadline to increase the depth on the team.   Hind sight shows that moves were not enough. But injuries to Sundin, Nolan etc really hurt them.  Moligny and Domi were both hurt and played through it.  Madman said it best.  The Leafs can't beat Philly for some reason.  They outplayed them until game 5 when I saw the worst game of all time by the Leafs (all this includes all the crap I saw in the 1980s).

The Leafs should be looking a Kariya and Lindros this summer.  A coaching change has to happen as well. Quinn was been out coached too many times.
