Title: Non-Chekhov Star Trek figures?
Post by: Jay on July 03, 2010, 05:45:56 PM
Since the line is heavily clearanced in most places, I'm wondering if anyone on the Island can still find some that aren't Chekhov (poor guy. Nobody wants to re-enact his search for Nuclear Wessels, I guess.)?

Specifically, I'm looking for that bald villain guy, Nero. Really need him for a custom project.
Anyone able to help me find him?

You want Nero only?  I will check East Side T.O. for you.

Well I was hoping for something more local, but I appreciate it, thanks!

I'll do some more checkin' for ya tomorrow.  I'll be near Atwater, so I'll see if the Zellers there has any.

If you can wait until October, you might find it at the Montreal Toy Con for dirt cheap but you don't need to take my word for it . Zellers in CDN an St-Leonard could still have Star Trek movie figure leftovers. I'll keep two eyes opened for you as well.

Zellers CDN has Uhura, but no Nero. Ditto the Maxi & Cie nearby, they have a bunch of the Starfleet folks but no Nero...

Probably going to check the Maxi & Cie somewhere in the vicinity of the Pie IX metro tomorrow...

EDIT:
And to tally up... here's where I've been:

Lasalle: Wal-Mart, TRU, Angrignon Zellers, Angrignon Sears, Winners
Downtown: Alexis-Nihon Zellers, Alexis-Nihon Winners
Pointe-Claire: Fairview Sears, Fairview Winners, TRU, Maxi & Cie
CDN: Zellers, Maxi & Cie
Anjou: Zellers, Sears, TRU
Côte-Vertu: Zellers, Sears

I know. Like I said, I was there on Friday.

Wish I had a car so I could check the Brossard area. There's a Wal-Mart, a Zellers and a TRU there at the very least.

The Zellers and TRU are reachable by public transit (one bus from Bonaventure will bring you to the Panama Terminus), but it isn't worth your time.  You won't find anything here...

Really? Not even any pegwarming JLU or DCIH figures?

Also, doesn't the transit in that area function differently from the STM?

I don't know, I don't collect DC stuff.  Sorry, man.
The transit system is indeed a different network, so you'd have to pay $3 each way to get the #45 bus from Bonaventure to Panama and then back again.

Yyyyyeah... for that extra 3$ I might as well save the lengthy trip and just order Nero online.

But next time you're at the TRU, if you could tell me what JLU and DCIH toys you see, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Good idea about getting him online.

Erk, disappointing hunt again today, the Maxi & Cie and Winners on Jean-Talon East had nothing. Ditto some crappy little printer ink store/toy store that was in that mall right across the street. And Toy Wars, while having some nice new JLU toys for me to buy, did not have him either.

I'm wondering if any Canadian Tires might have toys leftover from the holidays now... I know they had the Trek figures during that time...

I still have to try Zellers on Viau for you...that's the St-leonard store. I will be able to go eventually sometime this week.

And also, if anyone is in the vicinity of Maxi & Cie on Papineau, this is the only one I haven't checked yet and the heat is just too much to take the lengthy trip to and back right now... so I would be extremely grateful is someone could check it for me.

Erk.

Sorry, I think I'll pass on that. I can find one for about that on ebay, shipped... Just preferred finding one local is all, since I get to mess with it right away and such.
Thanks for keeping an eye out, though! Much appreciated!

Confirmed: No Nero's at Viau. They only had a Prime Spock, Chekov and Scotty. Maybe I should've picked Prime Spock but I decided to sleep on it. You still haven't tried the Zellers next to metro Langelier? I'll try that one for you, it's in the vicinity.

Many thanks, friend.
I'd say Prime Spock is one of the better figures of the series, I bought one to my dad for Father's Day last year (since he likes Star Trek and watched the original series on TV) but he never bothered to take it out of the package. The likeness to Nimoy is pretty darn good.

And no, I don't think I've been to the Zellers next to Langelier. Could use the check, if you can spare the time.

..And I just came back from the Zellers next to Langelier metro, that one is called Zellers Centre Domaine by the way. Again, no Nero's in sight. Maybe you should just do the fleamarkets or garage sales if you don't want to pay the secondary market price such as Ebay. That or join a Star Trek or Star Wars message board, I'm sure that someone still has one in the closet somewhere.

With the Canadian Gi joe Convention just around the corner I suggest you take Bandanov's offer (if there are still any Nero left) and ask him to get you one. If you can't come to the Joe Con, I'll be going so I can meet with Bandanov. I'm throwing you the ball so it's up to you if you want to pick it up .

Since you now have a choice here go local for $14.99 or get me to get it for you for $4.99?  Here is the pic to make sure this is the one you want:

It's quite possible the listed price wasn't changed and it's clearanced. Which Canadian Tire was this at? The ones I went to had gotten rid of their toy displays!

I found another source for cheap Star Trek figures, though.
Super Club Videotron has them for five dollars a pop, and they're the US versions with Bridge parts!
Thus far I've checked two (the one on Queen Mary and the one on Newman blvd) which only had Scottys, Kirks and Sulus. So if anyone needs a rental soon, swing by their toy display too.

Jay, why don't you simply take up bandonov's offer?
Let him buy it, Martin pays him back, then you settle up with Martin when he gets back from the Con.

It's SO simple.

Well... because it's boring. If I just take up Martin and bandonov's offers now, it just becomes a dull waiting game.
But right now, I still have areas to check for him, the hunt is still on. The hunt is fun and somewhat exciting. The hunt can also be beneficial (while I did not find Nero today, I did manage to find Mask Of The Phantasm and Sub-Zero on DVD as well as an Animated Bumper Battlers Optimus Prime for my girlfriend), not to mention it gives me more reasons to go out and walk, giving me extra exercise.

Odds are if I don't find it by Thursday, I'll take bandonov and Martin's offer.

Then you've messed up your chance to take them up on it. Bandanov is on vacation - he stated a few posts above that he would pick it up for you and hand it off to Martin - but you HAD to let him know by Friday.

Personally, who gives a crap if it's "boring". I've been waiting for 4 months to pick up something from the con from someone because I didn't want to pay the shipping on it.

Jeez man.... you had a PERFECT chance to get the figure that you've been bitching about not finding in your area for a month now. I just don't get it.

The Mike makes a valid point: I think the people that replied to your thread didn't really care first about the fact you mainly wanted to enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Now that I think of it, maybe you shouldn't have started this thread in the first place because If we tell you where the figure is, it should take away a good part of that thrill... no? It would for me.

"Finding Nero"  :shifty: ....

Wouldn't it be more challenging if we all just raced against you to empty the Neros in Videotrons to make the hunt more thrilling? It would be like the amazing race. Since Star Trek figures are not marked up that high, it should make for a somewhat affordable race.

In any case, a friend found me Nero in RDP, so I'll be able to pick it up shortly... so the hunt's over. Fun while it lasted.
Now I gotta wait for POC and TF: Generations to start popping up.

Thanks for beeing able to see through this little piece of humor as I just couldn't resist jumping on the occasion. At work, I sometimes draw short cartoons of my collegues to help them through daily stress in the wonderful world of an architecture firm. It's also my way of making the ordinary extraordinary for others and make them laugh at themselves for a change  ;D. +1 for you as well.
