Title: the evolution of Action force and GI Joe
Post by: gunghoeddie on February 15, 2011, 10:14:51 AM
i read Bulman66 request to see some of the european packaging in Sundances collection thread, it got me thinking as to what differences there are worldwide so i thought i would begin with a bit of action force history. Palitoy at a standstill with action man sales looked at the success of the vintage star wars 3 3/4 line and released Action Force

series 1 1982

series 2 vehicles were mostly window boxes with the introduction of multi jointed figures such as stalker ie snake eyes pictured with the SAS panther on the left in the picture below

Z Force command centre with Jammer and Gaucho

palitoy then re-released the series 2 vehicles as picture boxes which are now quite rare the attack cannon was expensive!

The Canadian Joe line mirrored the US line with just a couple of exceptions--notably a couple of sets, and a few differences in file cards-and of course, bilingual packaging.
The most notable difference is in vehicles, which would come with a sticker sheet offering a Canadian flag sticker on the sheet--sometimes with a US flag--but otherwise the toys were the same as the US stuff.

much the same as the euro repaints i have had a look through some of the boxes to see what i could find euro exclusives wise and i managed to find a few not all as i think they may be at the father in laws along with most of the accessories.

moondancer on the left and dolphin in the middle are the ones that collectors will pay crazy money for anywhere between $200 to $300 they came with the sealion and triad fighter re-releases

i'm a bit of a tiger force nut, i just love them not for everyone i know but tiger force and night force are probably my favourite Joe teams.

these are the euro exclusives that seem to of again gone crazy expensive in the last year or two.

                Oh man Gunhoeddie,

Thanks a tonne for the history lesson, and posting all those truly
awesome pictures of your own collection.
I hadn't looked on this particular thread for a bit, so I missed it.
The Triad space vehicle looks very cool, and totally different
from anything I have seen related to NA Joe vehicles.
It was so interesting to see that in 1985, the UK Action Force
literally became Gi Joe.
If you have anything that you just want to get rid of, let me know.
I would be more than happy to take them off your hands. lol

Cheers
Dale
