Y'know, I liked this thing as a kid but never owned one. I've bought 3 now and looked a a few others in person and a ton of them online and I have a pretty good argument for this being the crappiest vehicle to collect.
- None of the colours ever match. Bottom hatch, 2 top hatches, upper half, lower half, drop tanks, missiles, rear thrusters. NOTHING EVER MATCHES! Even mix-and matching parts is a pain and it's impossible to do with pictures.
- The gray chassis tends to discolour with exposure to UV light making the access panels not match and the whole thing look like hell.
- Canopy is rarely broken but clip that holds the hinge on sure breaks easy. Fixing it means buying a whole, expensive to ship, chassis
- Yellow parts look cheap, are too soft plastic and warp and dent too easily
- Rear assembly is VERY poorly designed. Something always ending up busted. Either one or both of the thrusters tabs break or the bottom piece breaks, or worst of all, the main chassis clips break. Any one of any of those clips break the back end doesn't stay together.
- Black tail and side fins ALWAYS FALL OFF. So often than may X-30s have glue all over the chassis that once held them on. Wasn't the RAM a lesson in this?
- Landing gear get way too loose way too fast
- Re-release a few years ago means you need to be extra vigilant when it comes to getting vintage parts. Missiles are different but the rest seems the same to me
It looks cool though so should all be forgiven?
-
I have the Spy Troops camouflaged version of the Conquest and it has NONE of those problems.
-
I just thought it wasn't near as cool as the Skystriker (or the Raven or Rattler, for that matter).
That fact alone made me dislike it.
-
I actually dislike only one thing on it and thats the big shark mouth decals. Don't know why, I just don't like them.
-
Hey zenith i see your points and alot of them are right . But i have owned 2 X30s and i only had 1 issue . On one of my x 30s the engine cover directly behind the cockpit was a little off gray compared to the rest.
I like the X30 but there are way cooler/ durable vehicles out there .
Any way i think the X30 is an essential piece to any collection.

I want one SO bad...
-
Sorry sundance . I just sold one . Had i known i would have sold it to you .
-
Get the Python version and have your Skystrikers shoot it down. Again... and again... and again...
-
I have the original, and have a couple of issues, primarily the Nose Landing Gear, and a bit of discoloration between panels. I also have the new Python Patrol version, and find it alot sturdier. I for one love the jet, not as cool as the Skystriker, but in my Joe dio verse I use the one I have for ground attack, where the skystriker is air to air.

Problem solved!

So,
For anyone who's ever dreamed of buying something MSIB and hoping for that 80's nostalgia to come roaring back, here's the reality. (I'm not an expert but I've bought 2 MSIB items lately)
The GOOD:
Figure and plastic parts are is as minty as can be IF they hasn't been bumped around too much over the years
No discolouration of plastic parts
Nothing is broken
Nothing is missing
The BAD:
Blueprints and other paperwork are discoloured
Blueprints are likely stuck to the decals and damaged
Decals are all sticky and some have shrunk
Rubber parts have started "weeping" and have gotten on other plastic parts in their bag
It's no longer a "toy" but a "collectible" so breaking anything is a crushing blow
Interesting notes about assembling an old Conquest:
Front landing gear is STIFF. Popped out a couple times.
Attaching the front landing gear cover is TOUGH.
Attaching the canopy is an exercise in terror.
The rear landing gear are floppy out of the box. (Who knew!?)
Interesting to me is that the landing gear came pre-mounted. Just missing the wheels.

Wow !! very nice man.
I would have been very nervous to assemble any of those parts!
if you dont mind me asking how much does an MIB Conquest go for. ?

The guy was asking $250 but I got it for $200 US. It's a lot but the box is pretty rare as far as I can tell so a MSIB one is rarer still. After 3 Conquests I was somewhat unhappy with I figured I'd bite the bullet since my collection is getting pretty much complete at this point.
