I agree with you 100% and almost posted the same thing when I first saw the pic. It also makes the face look a little too cartoony.

As was pointed out on the MC boards, it sounds like the Warthog is the medium sized vehicle. I've been thinking that for a while but is interesting to note that in Brians description of Sgt. Slaughter he includes a "*" next to the Warthog comment.

This tooling hearkens back to Sgt. Slaughter as the Warthog Driver*, with the ammo belt. His knife is an homage to the sheathed knife from that same figure

I hope he's a bit darker in person. Otherwise, he looks pretty good. It's nice to have a Sarge figure that comes with a gun.

I kind of hope the medium vehicle isn't the Warthog. I've got an empty Night Rhino sitting on my mantle waiting to be manned by Slaughter and the Renegades. I traded off my extra Night Rhino at the meet this year, so having another one again won't do my shelves any favours.
