Title: 25th anniversary 3 3/4" Joes
Post by: beekerzz24 on January 20, 2007, 11:48:57 PM
Saw this on Hasbro and Yo joe,

Any one know what Hasbro has planned???

Dwight Stall at the New Orleans convention said these would be the most articulated GI JOE figures ever.  Old sculpt style, new sculpt style, a combination of the two, who knows.  It's all speculation right now as he didn't give any details.  I assume next month at Toy Fair in NYC, we will find out. I will reserve my comments until I see some pictures before jumping off the deep end like others on certain message boards.  Man, people get worked up for no reason.

You guys DO realize this means we'll get 25 figures this year alone, which is about twice as many as we got in 2006.

25 figure is fine by me.  Hasbro released 18 figures in 2006 (yojoes info is wrong as some of those DTC items were available late in 2005).  So an extra 7 isn't a big deal.

Should be interesting to see what they got planned.

I hope they can be custom-compatible with ARAH and/or JvC. Then I'll be picking up extras...
I'll still be picking up extras if they look awesome, though.

I'm curious too.
If they're supposed to be the most articulated joes , Im really intrigued.

25 figures ? That's cool. Is that an official number?

I've been focusing on my 12" joes for a while (kit bashing and ordering some crazy gear), it will be good to add new troops to the 3 3/4 shelves.

Hasbro's website says 25, so yeah, I'd guess that's pretty official.

I CANNOT WAIT to see what Hasbro has up their sleeves for this line-up!  I'm feeling pretty optimistic that it's gonna be an impressive series... Especially since it's about 10 more figures than I would have guessed we'd be getting.

So is Canada  getting any new Joe love or is it back to on line purchases yet again? I've about reached my limit with on line buying. I want to see the guys hanging on the wall in a store dagnammit!  >:(

Meh.
I'm not impressed.
The figure looks really lanky, the wrists are bad-looking, the sandals are an incredibly goofy thing to give a ninja, the knife in the belt looks like it'll be in the way most of the time...

Hopefully the final product'll look better.

Based on the diaper he is wearing, I think the o-ring is a thing of the past.  Otherwise, it's a nice looking figure.  I am so digging the accessories and the paint detail.

Yes, I agree.. but that's been the rumour for this line for some time.

If it's similar in style and articulation to the Marvel Legends figures .... I think I can deal with it.

It's already a LOT better then those damn T crotches we got when the line "relaunched" last time.

I can live with the o-ring, provided if the figure is outstanding like this.  I hope the tradtional style art work is brought back.

I thought the DTC packaging was phenomenal and that Storm Shadow looks great!

I'm almost ready to enter the Raptor school of collecting and sell off a good chunk of my older figures, keep one per character.

I have so many bad RAHC, JvC, Spy Troops and VvV figures that have been redone and redone and redone. I just want to get rid of them. Especially when there's these 25 guys coming out next year.

I can't wait for noon today to see another picture!
Each day the club will post a new picture around noon.
I'm sure gijoe.com will do the same.

I really like all the details on SS. His look is really traditional even down to the straw sandals. He really looks like a ninja from ancient japan. I'll bet these figures will be very popular.

That's exactly what I was hoping for. Now I just need to know price and availability. If it ends up less than $10 a fig, I'll get them all.

That is just plain awesome. The Joe vs Cobra junk from 2000 - 2006 I bought but didn't really care that much for and none of it is on display anymore but all in bags packed away, but these figures. Wow. I think I'll have to take down a shelf of ARAH and set up on shelf of those bad boys.

Just awesome.

From I have read online, if the 5 pack is made, the price should be around 24.99 or 5 bucks a figure.  Which isn't bad considering all the re-tooling invoolved.

10 bucks says Snake Eyes will be next to be shown.

Raise the stakes by calling it a 5 figure exclusive set released in a tin can for $28.88 at Wal-Mart/Sam's Club. Plus the option to get them in singles is still available.

The price is unconfirmed (Justin mentioned it on JC as a possible price). But how much did the Star Wars sets like this fetch for in retail stores?  Still, I rather have a single packs.

As for Crazylegs....

And I will post the next pic up in 40 minutes.

Maybe we will finally get a Dr. Venom figure.  At least with the lab coat you could cover the waist piece.  I think that is the final figure from the early comics that went unproduced.
Title: Re: 25th anniversary 3 3/4" Joes
Post by: Jon S. on January 23, 2007, 12:52:27 PM
Ugh. There's nothing worse than a bulky v-crotch waistpiece. It does slightly resemble a diaper.
Title: Re: 25th anniversary 3 3/4" Joes
Post by: morgardee on January 23, 2007, 01:12:54 PM
I don't know. I think it would be hard to make a Duke figure people like since, for reasons I still don't understand, a lot of people seem to have a hate on for him. I like Duke and while his outfit is on the generic side, I think this is a decent new spin on him. Looks like the gun comes out of his holster which is nice. Now if the helmet doesn't come off then that would make him craptacular.
Title: Re: 25th anniversary 3 3/4" Joes
Post by: Pete The Greek on January 23, 2007, 01:23:13 PM
Based on the shadow between the helmet and head, I say the helmet comes off.

People have a hate on for Duke from the cartoon.  Not me.  I just hate these type of waist pieces so far shown.  Save them for Star Wars.

I can deal with the crotches. A big step up from the "T" crotches.

Stormy doesn't look that bad, but it does look kinda big/bulky on the skinny Duke figure.

 Good one. Sort of stretching it a bit but how about Backstop?

As for the new Scarlet, very nice. Face looks a bit cartoonish, but I still like it. So far I want them all but if the are sold locally for a fair price I'd pick up a couple of the Storm Shadow figures. Paint (or rit dye) them black or red and your done. I'm willing to bet you can boil and pop those arms off.

Here's a question for Raptor, is there a way to cover up the flesh tones on a figure when using rit dye? I think epoxy puddy might work but you would need to put a thin layer of cellophane between the epoxy and the flesh part you don't want died, and then you'd have to chip it off.

I've been pondering that recently and I'm considering trying a Silicon molding agent...maybe even a silicon glue..with mold release underneath it.  depending on how much the silicon changes with the heat of the dye bath it should hold a relativley water tight seal against the skintone part...and then peal off easier than not.

thanks for the pics pete.

I've had some luck with that peel off "stained glass" paint from walmart, and the really cheap crappy hot glue. Loop has had luck with crazy glue. The problem is that usually the heat will peel off anything that is designed to peel off. I am going to play with medical tape/waterproof bandaids on my next dye batch, but I'm not sure that those will be able to pull it off.

I've tried wax, and that was a non starter. I've tried latex paint, but that cooks onto the figure and won't scrape off easily. I used clay (similar to epoxy putty) and it just fell off.

I haven't been playing with dye much lately, so maybe I'll do some experimentation with the next batch.

I am of mixed feelings on Scarlett. I don't know if I love it, or have a mild dislike for the proportions. I'll have to see one for real.

Looks like the first assortment is following the '83 - '84 line, so we can expect that the second assortment will be '85-'86. That makes sense to me.

I hate clicking on links (and Hasbro has killed them, well freaking bad as I saved the pictures)

The fourth figure to be shown was Gung Ho.  Now the cat is really out of the bag.  Poor MC

Wow.

Wow. Hasbro has seriously knocked these out of the park. Bravo.

In a matter of 10 pictures, my interest in GIJOE has been totally rekindled.

I'nm liking but not loving CC, Destro, and the Trooper. Loving Baroness and Stormy.

I'm not liking Duke, I'm liking Scarlett and Snake eyes, and I'm loving Gung Ho and Roadblock.

In fact, That Gung ho and Roadblock are going to be the defaults, and it just cancelled 2 custom projects I was working on.

I will end up getting all of the sets. But I will be picking up a few to play with too. I just hope that they can stand on their own, and the joints aren't crap.

And I can't wait to see the other 15.

Anyone with web skills, get your resume into Hasbro now. I bet there will be an opening in the web department very soon.

Hasbro has taken the pics back down - but the damage is done.
Most people have seen them now and LOVE them!

If you haven't seen them, please allow me to show all 10 of them to you - since Hasbro has no bearing on me or this site, I have no problems sharing them. Now if I did work for Hasbro - that would be a totally different story... hell, I'd most likely give up the site to avoid any conflicts anyway. :shifty:

But I don't, so here they are:

I highly doubt it.  People screw up.  And this isn't a bad thing.  What urked me about this one figure a day thing was that MC had first right to them.  This isn't their project.  People were not going to join just to see the pictures released at noon, when people were sending the images across the net in the first place.  I rather have everything shown at once as oppose to the dog and pony show from before.

I keep looking at Destro.  Man, this one could have been better.  What is will the green eyes?  Carrying radiation in his case or what?

When the re-launch was done around 5 years ago.  This is the way it should have been done. It sure sounds like most people are dumping the other so called new sculpts from 2002-2006 in favour of these.  Man, if wasn't a completiest, I would have never of gotten them in the first place.  Over 95% of the new sculpts I just hated, mostly because of body proportions.  I couldn't incorporate them into my vintage collection as a result.  These 2007 ones are alot better, minus the diaper for a waist.  But the waist is better than the 2002 ones.  But I still can't incorporate these into my vintage style collection.  They will have to be seperate.   That is why I prefer single packs and hopefully some kick ass art work to go with it.

So one figure of each will be enough and maybe a handful of the soldiers.  I still have enough TRU Cobra Infantry soldiers in were I don't need to army build this new sculpt to that level.

Now, I am really going to be interested in what MC does for there set.  No doubt it will o-ring figures and really the way to go if your going to pay homage to something done 25 years ago.

goddamn, Hasbro has really outdone themselves here.  hell, these are just the first 10 figures, and I'm completely in love with Joe all over again (which is a weird feeling since my passion for it has never died, I guess it's just brighter burning now).  Really can't wait to see what the other 15 are here, should be a hell of a jaw-dropper when they're unveiled... christ knows I'm HOPING they'll all be on display at Toy Fair.

I agree Pete - those T-Crotch figure we got were just crap.
I bought all of them and hated doing so.
If Hasbro wanted to move away from the O-Ring they should have put some time into the figures back then.
I keep coming back to this thread just to look at the figures over and over again. If they do the packaging well, I would pick up 1 set to keep MOC and another to open.

Amazing what one day does.  :o

Some sites have hot-linked the pics. While I don't normally care when people do that, there's been a MAJOR increase in 'site' activitybecause of it... well.. them and the people that are nice enough to actually link to the site instead of 'hot-linking'.

For example:

Those that hotlinked - are getting 'different' pics right now.  :shifty:

Basically, use these as a reference:

Roadblock

Scarlett

Oh, I should probably say something about the figures... I like them, very cool. Not without their faults of course, but still very cool. I'll probably buy the 5 packs (any re-releases in singles, that's debatable). These would have been killer as a re-intro to G.I. Joe back in 2000/2002. I'd have loved them for that. I'm ambivalent to the idea of them as anniversary figures. Looking at them outside of that scope though, they're pretty freakin' cool.

Mike, that's funny as hell.

Reminds me of when the SWCA would post pics of a BIG fat dude belly flopping off a diving board whenever someone hotlinked the site in an auction.

I think overall that these figures look pretty good but much like modern SW stuff, they just don't interest me too much. I'm pretty set in my vintage only ways. But, that said, few of these *might* make their way into my collection at some point. ;)

I'll get 2 Snake-Eyes, one to keep as Snakes, and the other to repaint into the F.E.A.R. Point Man.  He'll go well with my v2 Hawk as Paxton Fettel... at least once I finish the paintjob.

According to

Prices:

Quote
G.I. JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO sets

(Approximate retail price of $25.00; Ages: 5 & up; Available: Summer 2007)

Sure to delight fans both new and old, 25th Anniversary Figures are all new sculpts and the most detailed and articulated G.I. JOE figures ever! Hasbro kick-offs the anniversary with the release two special-edition sets, each containing five classic G.I. JOE characters from the A REAL AMERICAN HERO line. Characters include G.I. JOE force’s fearless patriots DUKE, SNAKE EYES, GUNG HO, SCARLET and ROAD BLOCK, as well as their slithery adversaries COBRA COMMANDER, DESTRO, STORM SHADOW, BARONESS and a COBRA TROOPER. Each pack also comes with a sound box in the shape of the G.I. JOE logo that plays the beloved theme from the G.I. JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO animated series.

Quote
G.I. JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO single packs

(Approximate retail price of $6.00; Ages 5 & up; Available: Fall 2007)

Each of the fifteen 3-3/4-inch figures – in replica G.I. JOE packaging circa 1982 – will feature new sculpts, enhanced articulation, and a base stand featuring the character’s name.

Still would have preferred all single sets but oh well.

Oh great.  I can't wait for the same typical whine and cheese from some on a couple of other message boards in regards to this.  Whaaaaaa, I couldn't get the Infantry 6 pack or multiples of it because of those damned scalpers.  My hillbilliy TRU doesn't have any.  Blah, blah, blah.  Mean while, I basically begged and had to do extra leg work (i.e. drive to Buffalo) to get the items I wanted because the retailers up here don't give a crap.

And after my London trip, I got a once in a lifetime chance to beef my v1.5 Cobra and Cobra Officers with some cherry mint ones.  So I won't be army builder the new stuff. No need.

I am also hoping that these aren't the "real" production figures. I remember hearing that the production had screwed up good sculpting before, and if that's what prod does to them, they have a legitimate beef.

I'm still hopeful, but I can't believe how bad that roadblock looks after how great the riginal shot was....

Thanks for the link. Those pictures are even better than those on the newsletter.
Its funny that V2 Storm Shadow has a cobra base.
That Flint is very cool.

Amazing figures. Fall will be great!

Not to promote another site, I just thought everyone would be interested....
The 25th Anniversary figures are now up for pre-order at Brianstoys.com

One of the sights said these were to be sold individually, not sure if that?s before or after the first two 5 packs??

Wonder if they will have their act together enough to include figure stands with all of these guys?

The first 5 GI JOE figures and the first 5 Cobra figures are to be sold in sets of 2.  After that, the balance of the figures will be sold individually.

Does anyone have any info to share on availability within Canadian retail stores?
Title: Re: 25th anniversary 3 3/4" Joes

about the canadian retailers. Silver Snail will most likely sell them, and i have an inside scoop that sears is thinking about supplying them.

about the new figures, they all rock. I am so pumped with all the new figures. BUT really there's just one new figure which kinda sucks (cobra commander v2, snake eyes v2, stormshadow v2, and cobra officer which is basically v2). It would have been nice to have the figures released before v2 ones started being announced. but it's all still so awesome

Thanks for the info savage.  I'm hoping these things see wide spread distribution so that we might actually see some competitive pricing in the great white north.

Repaints are already on their way?
A second cobra 5 pack has been announced and by the looks of it we'll get repaints:
Cobra Commander (Battle Dress), Storm Shadow (Dragon), Cobra Stinger Driver, Cobra Air Trooper, Cobra (the Enemy)
no pictures are available yet.

This is so cool!

That is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. Now all we need to know is will Canada be getting these at the big retail stores. Please Hasbro, don't screw us out of these. We got most of the 15th anniversary stuff and that sold well enough.

I guess right now if I could ask Hasbro one question it would it be "What about Canada?"

I hate admitting that I want to buy something for the packaging, but i guess I do.

I, like pete, can't get behind the crotch picees. They just don't look right on most of the figures. I may just limit myself to the snakeyes figures.

Honestly,
I plan on buying them - and carefully opening them all.

Then I'll stick the originals in the blister instead. ;-)

Not a bad idea mike. I don't know if I'll have room for MOC in the new house, but that's certainly something to consider.

As for Mike's idea, not bad.  But I am only getting one set and hence rather keep them sealed for the short term.

Wow, in those pics, the Stormy crotch looks normal, and the Cobra pic looks completely stupid. I'm going to have to reserve judgement until I see them IRL.

But that Baroness looks like all the jokes are true...

One of the strangest treads I've noticed with these figures is just how dependent they are on a good pose to look cool. As soon as an arm is facing a strange direction or the upper torso is tilted, they lose all cool value to me. I hope it won't be hard to make them look cool on a shelf.

And pics of the Scarlett figure are posted here

I can't complain about this figure.  Nice poses as well.

Cool.
Thanks for the link Pete.
The guy paid $60... For about the same he could buy both 5 packs. They'll be out in a month or so, man are people impatient.

But to dick wave and say you got it first, you can't put a price on that...or maybe 60 bucks

I just don't get why people are in a huge hurry.  If they are already making it to Sinapore, that means the figures will be released very soon based on past events.

I'm more impressed than I expected to be.

But it'll be the compatability of the parts that sells it or kills it for customizers. Head swaps and repaints are fine, but if that's all you can do because of incompatable sizing, it'll get played out pretty fast.

Well since Buzzer got screwed out of the last go round of Joes I'm glad he's got a figure coming. It's just a shame that the J vs C and these guys look so far different from each other I won't be mixing them up on my shelves. Then again, I packed up all the J vs C stuff anyhow.

Hasbro Q&A has just said that there will be some select stores in Canada selling the 25th figures but didn't say which stores or for how much.  check Joebattlelines.com for the Q&A
