Off Topic / Podcasts
« on: August 15, 2011, 02:33:32 PM »
Ive over the past few months have started to download Podcasts regularly to listen to on my commute to work and just for when Im driving.  What Podcasts do you guys listen to?

Currently I subscribe to What's On Joe mind (which I assume most of you people who do listen to podcasts here would), The Drunk Tank (by Roosterteeth), State of the Game (Starcraft 2), Weapon of Choice (Starcraft 2).  Yet these still do not fill up my hours of something to listen to during commutes.

General Joe Talk / NDK @ SDCC 2011
« on: July 21, 2011, 08:35:41 PM »
Hey guys, just thought Id share some of my experiences and photos of SDCC.  And before you reach for the PM asking me to get you something, please don't, I will not respond...
This is sort of a brief diary or my days here.

July 20th:
After getting into San Diego, we took the shuttle to the convention.  Our hotel is about 30 min walk, 15 min drive to the con center.  After we got to the con center, we had to take another shuttle up north to pick up our 4 day badges.  Traffic was killer, took us about 45 min to get there, 15+ min of that was just the bus trying to turn into the building.  After we got off the shuttle we saw and endless line outside, it moved somewhat quickly though, took us about 15 min to get through this.  We then got inside and man, one of the longest lines Ive even been in.  Hundreds and hundreds of people.  This line took us about 2 hours to get through...But we finally got our passes and headed back to the hotel and went to little Italy and got a nice ravioli with meat ball and sausage.

July 21st:
Woke up at 6, took the 7am shuttle to the con center.  Place was already packed.  Walked around trying to figure out where to line up for the Hasbro ticket line, you need a ticket with a time stamp to be able to have a chance to line up at the actual hasbrotoystore booth.  We found the line and it took us maybe 2 hours to get through this.  We managed to get out of this line just in time for the exhibition floor to open.  Our ticket was for 10am, and the floor opened at 9:30, so we wandered for 1/2 hr, only to get to the Hasbrotoystore booth and the line was capped with tonnes of people floating around it wondering what to do.  1/2hr later they told us to line up against the far wall of the convention, and brought us up 25 at a time to the main booth when space opened up.  Eventually I got all my purchases at about 1pm, and man was I already tired, it is an absolutely brutal process, I was actually lucky because I was early, others weren't so lucky and would have spent even longer in line.  And for people who haven't experienced it, I assure you, it is worth buying these exclusives at the inflated prices to avoid all these hassles, it doesn't seem bad when you hear about it from forums and such, but it really is so draining, frustrating and tiring.  I only was able to muster maybe another 1.5 hours of energy to walk the floor a bit before my legs started to give out and I had to go back to the hotel where I am typing this out now.  My back kills, my legs are super sore from all the stuff I had to lug around and all the standing and walking, and Ive had no time to get food.  If I come back next year I will defiantly consider just skipping the Hasbro Line, it just wasn't worth it, there were plenty of other things I missed out on while waiting line for these which I wont even see on the secondary market.

For those that were wondering, we were only allowed to buy 1 starscream/cc, 3 pink zaranas, and 1 variant zaranas per person.  So its actually pretty damn hard to come by these.  I also picked up a sentinel and man is it huge and heavy.  I picked up a few more zaranas off my friends as well, they kept their starscreams.  They had fedex there to help ship, but it was costly for me...230 dollars.  Ill have to sell my extra zaranas at market price just to make that back...Ill post them here first to give you guys dibs, but I have to warn you I will have to charge market prices as I desperately need to make the money back, for those of you near me, it will be cheaper then ebay as you wont have to pay shipping, check my bst in a week or 2, Ill leave them there for a few days before going to ebay.

Anyways, I did enjoy seeing a lot of the new and old stuff on the exhibition floor.  I didn't see everything yet, but here are a few pics, apologies for the quality in some, I had a very crappy camera and a very shaky hand.

Off Topic / Shipping back goods to Canada while in the States
« on: July 12, 2011, 09:54:50 PM »
Im thinking of shipping some stuff back from the States to home while on vacation, is there anything special you have to do for customs for this?  Do customs actually link what you declared at the airport to what you shipped (I dont think its possible)?  What do you do for return address?  Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

Customs / Female Viper
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:02:45 PM »
Just a quick custom I did, used Slayer Design Female Viper head and Torso, Slayer Design Female upper arms, Cover Girl legs, POC SS lower arms, and Shockviper hands.
The Silver Paint was hard to work with, didnt come out as smooth as I wanted, but at display distances you dont notice at all, only close up can you see the roughness.

1. The HISS Scout and Cycle Armor were shown at Joecon, but there was no definite word on where they will be available. Can you give us any word on where we might be able to expect these?

Hasbro: So here's the story. We are still working on getting a retailer to take this in the US. However, a limited amount of these items have made their way into market in Singapore. The largest order for these was for Canada (lucky for them). Stay tuned on a US retailer.

According to Joeintels Q and A, Canada has picked up these 2!
Time to make some Robotech customs with that Cycle Armor!

General Joe Talk / Data Viper cancelled

Q and A at the fighting 118th reveal that data viper is cancelled.  I thought he was a good injection of something new, wasn't my cup of tea but I know a lot of people will be disappointed in this.  Perhaps he will show up in the GIJCC figure subscriptions?

Customs / Steam punk/Post appocalyptic Baroness and Tesla Tank
« on: May 11, 2011, 12:42:51 PM »
Here is an entry I had to a contest a few weeks ago, enjoy!

The world has suffered a catastrophe when Robots have taken over the world, the world is now a baron place and the new technology that reigns are steam power and crude electricity.  GI Joe has been destroyed and now Cobra is the only force able to battle the robots!

First we have Steam Punk/Post apocalyptic Baroness with a steam powered portable tesla coil weapon.
Parts:  Head is modified ROC Baroness with modified goggles of snowjob. The body and limbs are ROC PP Baroness.  The Tesla pack is a jetpack with a modified mine detector from tripwire.  The coil was made of a stripped piece of twisty tie.  Her coat was painted brown and then covered in a black wash to bring out the folds.  The Tesla coil pack had 3 layers, the base coat was a brownish red mix to look like rust, then dry brushed with silver which gave it a sort of scratchy look to it which I really liked as it made it look old and used in a rough environment, and then last coat is a black wash to bring out that scratchy look.  Her rifle is painted brown on some parts to simulate wood, and then silver and that rust color on various parts as metal highlights.

Second we have a Tesla Tank, which is steampowered as well.  The wheels are from a POC HISS and the cannon is from a POC mech arm.  The controls are from Scrap Irons missile launchers and true to GI Joe doctrine in cockpits, the cockpit is elevated and the driver totally exposed to enemy fire.  The driver is a HISS driver head on a Armored CC body.  I used copper and black paint mainly on these, and put a black wash on top to highlight the nice sculpting.  The cannon was attached using epoxy putty. And the piping are straws attached with putty and glue.  I dry brushed black onto the tip of the cannon to simulate burning from firing the Tesla Cannon.

Overall the Baroness took 2 nights, and the HISS tank took about a week, painting the tank was surprisingly difficult by hand.
