Title: Latinjoe22's TOY Dioramas
Post by: latinjoe22 on January 05, 2009, 01:04:41 AM
Hey Guys!

I feel like I've been here for a good enough while without really knowing most of you so I found some time to display my long time old joe favorites and let the toys speak for me and my passion about it. My dios are still evolving and I tried to concentrate on characters rather than showing army building galleries ( but a soon to come project, promised ). I like a lot of the 80's Joes and do my very best on resisting the 25th line. I only purchased the DVD battlepacks and a Nemesis Enforcer which is one my favorite Cobra villains.

Also displayed is my STAR WARS, TRANSFORMERS dioramas. Watch out for those old MEGO, ERTL & GALOOB Star Trek movies figures doing a Cameo appearance in there! You might catch a glimpse on some Buck Rogers in there too

This gallery is public now so let me know what you think!

Enjoy!

EDIT: don't mind me, guess I lost the ability to read over the Christmas Holidays!

Good lookin stuff. I love the TF gestalts. I picked up a bunch of the knock offs a while back, but I haven't really thought about how to display them.

Did you use an old fish tank as the display thing for the imperial shuttle? The idea of a used fishtank as a display area really intrigues me.

Thanks but that is no Fish tank my friend. It's really a custom made glass case that I had someone make for the Tyderium.

The whole box lifts and the mirrored base plate stays on the floor. A really heavy piece of equipment...It's really a challenge to open it without making a stormtrooper fall  >:( . Gotta hit the Gym and pump my arms so that they don't shake all the time when I manipulate the glass case, that's another New Year's resolution on my list!

That is a very impressive collection LJ, I really like the Tyderium display, and I can't imagine how long it's taken you to get those Joes.

Thanks Dusty, I like the Tyderium display myself. My wife says it's too bad that the space above it is wasted space. Anyone has suggestions how I could make the most out of the vertical space?

While I really collected Joes when I was a kid, I made the same big mistake as a lot of comeback fans to sell them at garage sales. For me Gi joe had died in 1993-4 and I had to wait nearly a decade to attend a local comic convention in 2003, and to see someone carrying most of the early Joes. That day I bought a near mint StarDuster for 7$ and that was a lucky choice that I don't regret because I didn't even know that he's highly collectible, but I had to pay 50$ on the Storm Shadow heheheh so I spent as much at the end of the day. Since that day I was back into Joes it took me 5 years to get where I'm at, and that's including a neat Terrordrome and an array of cool looking vehicles.

Hey check out the new pics I took out with my second HATE tank. And this time, I placed the saddle bag on Chacal Noir's corpse, where it's supposed to go

I really had fun display them all. Hope you like it.

Yes, I failed but can I be blamed for that  ;D? I never applied my stickers on the First HATE. That's the way I like it. I'm a big fan of chromium and I do find the stickers cool but no sticker will get in the way of this. I just happened to acquire the second one with the stickers already applied. But I'm cool with having two different looking tanks and that's the way it's going to be for now.

So you collect other toy lines. I did not know that. I`ve dabbled in other lines too. But none seem to beat Joes.
and hey who are Jordi and Worf going after in the bar?

Alright, for all those that love Tiger Force and for all those that don't, here's for your own enjoyment, pictures of my Tiger Force Joes displayed...

I'm still missing a Tiger Fish  :'( ( Never Give up, Never surrender! ). I left out the Tiger Sting out of the display, I realized this when I finished posting this. One of the pics came out a bit blurry, that's something I'll need to work on later. Oh and some of the figures are not actually Tiger Force but I found them to work well with my teams.

Tango Team: basically this is highly trained team that operates in the open wilderness. Their flashy orange gear, which attracts a lot of attention, reflects this team's motto: "Let Cobra know we're coming!"
This team operates in South America. First in chain of command of this sub-group is Stalker. When facing a Crimson Guard division ( if Cobra deems it necessary to spare so many elite troops in open fire ), the Tango team knows that when it comes down to targetting orange or red spots on the battlefield, the odds are even.

Bravo Team: These are the guys that currently operate in Asia and Africa. First in chain of command is...Flint! Sorry Duke, all you had to do was accept that promotion  the Bravo Team is the first Tiger Force unit to have been put together, and are highly trained to undertake all kinds of weather operations. It consists mainly of men and women who served with high recognition in the ranks of GI JOE and were promoted to take part in this special unit deployment around the world, wherever there's trouble.

That's impressive!!! But I still can't believe an army would wear yellow and orange to fight!

Can your team fight my Crimson team? At least both side won't be able to hide.

So when oh when are you going to take that infamous picture of your imaginary 2009 canadian convention set?   :mrt:

Here's to revive my thread: First is my vintage Star Wars action figure collection. including some characters like Jabba and Sy Snootles & the Rebo band that were not part of the carded figure regular run.

Second is my newly acquired Gi joe Sgt. Savage collection as requested by Bandonov (I'll post some close-ups soon). I picked up this lot from Jeremy Thorp at 2011 Canjoecon, thanks to Snowhawk who put me in touch with him, for the Warhawk plane (forgot to include it in the pic). I just saw the 30 minute short movie on Youtube that came with one of the Sgt. Savage figures. It's called "Old Soldiers Never die". All I can say is: this short movie is really really good if you look at what's been put out there in terms of storytelling back in the days. It made me wish they put out more product and that the line didn't end after only one year.

Third and picture after that, is a lot of 31 ALIENS vs PREDATOR figures that were made in the 90's and up by Kenner. I acquired it from Condorknight at the 2011 Canjoecon. This is one of my favorite toylines ever. Beeing a fan of the Aliens franchise, I remember beeing somewhat disappointed when the ALIENS toyline was released back in 92, especially with what they did with the Marines characters. I then learned a few years later the line had expanded to included the Predators. Kenner/Hasbro had some great ideas planned for this line, but alas that never happened except in the early prototype stages. One great idea that made it into plastic form became the one we know as the Queen Hive Playset. The playset is accurately scaled and to me overall beats the huge Queen Alien that McFarlane did in the same decade, but that's just the "action" figure toy fan in me who is talking. BTW, most of the figures in this lot were complete except for the two figures. One is the Ambush Predator, which strangely, I still kept the accessories for it when I originally parted with mine years ago. The other is the ATAX (it's a human dressed up in a Xenomorph armor, as you can see him on the top right in the last pic). He was missing the missile on his Alien armor helmet, and lucky for me, I had an extra one. In other words, this lot is was a match in heaven for me.

Just to show you how movie accurate ans awesome the Queen Alien is, I displayed her with my Ripley figure and her Power Loader vehicle.

Enjoy!

And Crazylegs, I think Photobucket's links all changed, that's what happened, and I had nothing to do with it. I'll try putting a new link with the hopes that you'll be able to see the pictures. Worst case, I'll select a few good shots and post them.

Enjoy  :)

Hey Buddy,

Thanks for setting up the link. I know how flaky things like Photobucket can be. I'm going to take a look here now...

....That Apache is awesome man...love it...where did you get it? Who made it? Same with the F-18. Is that Corps stuff? I've seen some really good corps vehicles in Bargain Giant and Zellers and such.

The aliens stuff rocks...speaking of which did you Prometheus? I must say I really enjoyed it and then went and watched Alien. I remember seeing Aliens and re-enacting the scenes in the building and air ducts with my joes. I so wanted those characters to come out back then as figures.

Awesome vintage star wars stuff, in a really sweet display case. Dude your collection is awesome LJ!

Joecanuck and Canadian Joe Con stuff is awesome as well. I would love to own a figure from Canadian Joe Con. That would really help me feel that I'm in with all my joecanuck friends. Maybe next year I'll send some funds to ya to pick me up one or a set.

Dude all the import joe stuff, wow an awesome collection! Geeze I'm blown away bro!

Your original Transformers are great, I love that megatron, I have the same starcream but it's missing his gun..my original TF's are Mint Optimus Prime, Hotrod, Rodimus Prime, Soundwave, w/ buzzsaw and laserbeak,  as well as Astrotrain, and Blitzwing...I need the turrett for my Blitzwing. I love the original Transformers G1 stuff.

Thanks for sharing my joe bro!

Crazylegs :)

Timbits may have been flushed out for good, but it looks like the editing button decided to follow them down the drain too  :P

Cool set, I have this bridge as well, just wish I could've gotten the other pieces like they had in the US figures.

Yes, but even then, the bridge could never be completed. The second wave got cancelled and never past the painted prototype stage, and so did the other bridge parts that were supposed to come with those figures and were needed to complete the set.
