General Joe Talk / G.I. Joe Renegades on DVD
« on: June 08, 2012, 11:31:55 AM »
June 6 G.I. Joe Renegade Season 1 Part 1 came out on DVD.

I picked up my copy for $14.97 at Walmart.

On the cover of the DVD was a $5 off movie coupon for G.I. Joe Retaliation.  I started laughing in the aisle when I saw that.  Not only was the sticker still attached, but you only get $5 off the movie ticket.  The expiration date for the coupon is July 23rd.  I haven't tried redeeming the code yet, but I wonder if the expiration date will be pushed back til April 2013?

Ontario / $33.74 Skystrikers @ Zellers
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:21:48 AM »
This week Zeller's has 25% off all Action Figures.

I picked up a Sky Striker yesterday for $33.74.

I already had on that I picked up from Hal (and I couldn't find any $20 @ Walmart) and I wanted to have 2 Strikers with both sets of decals.

The first thing I did when I got home was modify it so the wings were swept in, with the landing gear down.

Now it fits perfectly on my Flagg with my 2 other Sky Striker, my C130 and the Dragonfly.

General Joe Talk / Toy Swapping Scumbags
« on: January 09, 2012, 08:40:21 AM »
Ok, I know the title is a bit harsh... but I am getting sick and tired of seeing this kind of stuff.

Yesterday I was at the Burlington Toy Show (I finally got to meet The Mike in person and had a good chat with him).  On the way home, the family and I decided to stop at the Toys R Us at Sherway Gardens.  While checking out the G.I. Joe stuff I noticed there was a Cobra 5 pack from 2008.  I haven't seen these around in a while and I thought it may be a good pick up for my friend who was with us, who is just starting to amass a small G.I. Joe collection.

I opened the cardboard cover to look at the figures and I went ballistic.  Someone had been into the set before and what they did was disgusting.
1) Storm Shadow's sword was missing
2) Baroness was missing and was replaced with a Scarlett painted black with an Elite Viper head
3) Cobra Commander... surprisingly untouched
4) Zartan's head was missing and was replaced with Maverick from Wolverine movie toys
5) Viper's legs were missing and swapped with Heavy Duty from Valor vs Venom

I scanned the UPC and the set came up at $34.99.

This is disgusting.  First off it should have been in the clearance rack for $10 or something like that.  Secondly, Toys R Us should have inspected the package since it is obvious that something doesn't look right.  Thirdly, it goes back to my old theory.  IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD G.I. JOE, FIND ANOTHER HOBBY.  It looks bad on all of us who collect G.I. Joe.  When stuff like this happens we won't be able to get new product in the future because the store won't stock new items.

If somebody did this to grab a couple body parts for customs, I hope toy karma gets them in the end.  I think there is no excuse for pulling a stunt like this.  If you are looking for a couple body parts for a custom, spend the cash and buy the figure.  If you don't want the extra pieces, post them somewhere (like ebay or here) to get rid of your unwanted stuff.

Sorry about the rant, but I am getting tired of seeing stuff like this.

I don't know how many of you have been following IDW's Cobra Civil War, but this week issue #8 was released and the contest to see who will be Cobra Commander is done.

We now have a new Cobra Commander and it is.... Spoiler Ahead... Krake (Alrighty then...)

I am kind of luke warm with this announcement.  Who is this guy?  What makes him leadership material? Other than killing a bunch of Joes and stabbing other members of Cobra Command in the back.

I hope IDW is going to be able to develop more about the character.  It is odd that he's taken the top spot in Cobra with no back story to him.

What is everybody's thought about the new Commander?

Off Topic / TRU is a magical place
« on: September 29, 2011, 10:45:51 AM »
I went to Toys R Us last night to grab some stuff for my son's birthday (and look for Joes for me).  I couldn't resist and had to take this picture.  It just shows that TRU is a magical place.

General Joe Talk / A awesome surprise in my latest acquisition
« on: September 09, 2011, 09:53:28 AM »
First a bit of background - Every Wednesday a group of us from the comic shop go for food.  These guys were just acquaintances at the comic shop, but after a year of hanging out and going to toy shows and comic con's they've become good friends.  My one friend just bought a condo and I helped him move.  This Wednesday he brought in his last box of toys he had.

Now the story... This box he brought in this week had G.I. Joe.  It was his collection from when he was a kid.  He has seen my collection so he said I could just have his stuff.  I opened the box and found a Tiger Fly, Tiger Cat, Pulverizer, Slam, LCV, Triple T, Ferret, Skystorm X Wing Chopper, Coastal Defender, Demon, and Evader.  The vehicles were played with and some small things were missing.  No big deal really.  That is expected with vehicles from the 80's.

But the figures, there's another story.  His figures were in mint condition.  No broken crotches.  No broken thumbs.  All joints in tight condition.

There was Tiger Force Roadblock, 1986 Roadblock, Beachhead, Triple T Sarge, Lightfoot, Wild Bill, IG Ferret (to name a few).  Several of these will replace figures in my collection that have broken crotches and loose joints.  But the piece I went crazy for was a mint condition 1989 Night Viper.  The rifle is in perfect condition.  The joints are very tight.  But... the night vision scope (and head posts) are in mint condition.  My Night Viper's night vision scope broke shortly after I got it in 1989, so I've been missing that piece for a long time.  And it is rare to find a mind condition Night Viper at any of the shows.  I couldn't believe I found one.

He wanted to give me his collection.  I just couldn't do it because I love the pieces he had.  So I offered him some money and he gladly took it.  I couldn't just take the Night Viper.  I had to buy it from him.  I have bought quite a few collections over the years.  Some have been great.  Some have been very disappointing, but this is definitely one of my favourite collections I have found.

General Joe Talk / SnowHawk's column on Comic Book Daily
« on: June 22, 2011, 01:29:14 PM »
You may have noticed on some of my posts (or my signature) that I write for a website called Comic Book Daily (http://www.comicbookdaily.com).

The column I write is called "Knowing Is Half The Battle".  The website reports on everything in the realm of comic books.  The nice thing is I pretty much have free reign to write about whatever I want.  Since G.I. Joe is one of the biggest parts of my life, I focus a lot of columns on G.I. Joe.

I am going to post links to my CBD articles here, so fellow board members can find it easily.

The first one is my interview with Valentine DeLandro at CanJoeCon (2011).  I hope you enjoy.  This was my very first interview... ever.  I was very nervous, but Valentine is such a great guy, I started to forget I was interviewing him, we just started talking.

Thanks for taking a look.

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Parking at Sheraton
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:24:42 AM »
The website says that the Sheraton on site parking is $7.50/car, with more information coming later.

Is there any new information available for parking.  Do we have to go in and register at the concierge desk for the $7.50/car?

Items Wanted / General pieces needed.
« on: June 13, 2011, 04:51:33 PM »

I just picked up a General that has been stripped down.  I need several pieces for it, but I am only really desperate for:

1 x RH Canopy (Passenger Side)
1 x Front 3 Barrell Gun
2 x Front Turret Guns
4 x Missles for the Platform turrets.

The guns and turrets are missing for the back, but since it will sit with it's back to my wall, I don't care if I find them.

I know it is a tough find, but I thought this is the best place to ask first.
