Off Topic / DC Comics Reboot
« on: June 02, 2011, 11:33:16 AM »
I have been thinking about this one since the news (http://http://www.comicbookdaily.com/wp/daily_news/dc-universe-reboot/) came out on Tuesday.

DC Comics is planning to reboot the DC Universe.  All the comics will start reset their numbering to #1, starting with Justice League #1.

Personally I think it is an interesting venture, but it is like another Crisis storyline, and if it is not successful the DC Universe will revert back to it's current form.

That... and I hope they don't mess with Batman, it is a pretty solid comic book right now.

How does everybody feel about this?

Do you read DC?  Are you a Marvel fan?

General Joe Talk / What happened to Tyrone?
« on: January 06, 2011, 08:40:22 AM »
I just picked up Classic G.I. Joe (trade paperback) #10.  I have always been missing issue #93 so I grabbed the TPB when it came out a couple weeks ago.

**May contain SPOILERS if you haven't read from issue #92 to #99**

While I was reading about Blind Master and Tyrone, and how Zartan became the Blind Master.  Zartan/Blind Master, Tyrone, Billy and the rest head to Cobra Island to figure out who is in the Cobra Commander armour.  Cobra Commander returns and sends the land locked freighter into the volcano.

Voltar, Croc Master and Raptor die.
Firefly, Zartan and Billy escape.
Dr. Mindbender is cloned.

But I can't remember if there was any story about Tyrone (or Captain Minh).  Was there any more story about Tyrone (he is in the pic saying "We thought you were Dead!") or was he just forgotten?  He was just a kid and if he was killed off, wouldn't his family look for him?

Off Topic / My open rant to a figure stealing Jerk!
« on: December 29, 2010, 09:03:40 AM »
The past 2 Christmas' I have given my son G.I. Joe.  This year I gave him a bunch of POC figures. I had bought 3 sets of Rip Attack vehicles to keep around for presents when they were on clearance in the spring.  The only one I had left was a Tiger Snake and I threw it in his stocking.  Christmas morning he is opening all his presents and Joes and he asked me where the Street Viper was.  I went through the packaging and it looked like the package was already opened.  The figure/accessory bag was missing.  So this vehicle, that was sitting on my shelf for months was missing the figure and the machine gun.  So I am mad about this.  I hope someone was really desperate to have a Street Viper to pull this kind of stunt.  I am trying to get my son interested in G.I. Joe and he was upset that he never got his figure.  The only bright side is that it happened to me, and I have a bunch of extra packaged Joes laying around so I gave him Wave 3 POC Snake Eyes to make it up to him.  But what if this happened to a "new" G.I. Joe fan?  I hope the parents would not figure all of us Joe collectors are figure stealing, accessory nabbing, part swapping scum bags  >:( (sorry kind of angry there).

Last year the same thing happened with the Steel Crusher I bought him.  The stickers were already applied to the Hummer and 2 of the missles were missing.

I don't want it to become buyer beware where I have to check the packaging before I purchase the toys.  But it may prevent future disappointment.  Thanks for reading this rant.  This situation made me mad and I wanted to get it off my chest.

General Joe Talk / What was your favorite G.I. Joe christmas present?
« on: December 01, 2010, 09:07:03 AM »
I guess the subject says it all.

What was your favorite G.I. Joe christmas present?  or What is your favorite G.I. Joe christmas memory?

For me I remember getting the Gung Ho Hall of Fame figure (12") from my sister when it came out.  My other favorite was when my wife bought me the re-release of the Mobat with Thunderwing and Heavy Duty.  This was our second christmas together when we were dating and it was the very first G.I. Joe product she ever bought me.

General Joe Talk / G.I. Joe Cartoon (DIC Series)
« on: November 09, 2010, 04:37:08 PM »
I just received a copy of the DIC series that I purchased from the internet.  The copy I bought looks like it is a mixture of AVI's and VHS recordings.  The guy I bought it from designed a box and DVD labels (even though the discs are labelled wrong) and sold it at a reasonable price ($15 USD shipping included from Arizona to Ontario).

I started watching it last night, and the sound and picture are poor on some episodes, but some are not too bad. I had a feeling it would be like this when I bought it.  I feel I got value for my money when I can get all 44 episodes of the DIC series.  Hopefully Hasbro will come out with a deluxe version soon.

When these were originally on television, I didn't have cable, so I only ever got to watch a couple episodes when the weather was clear and I could get TV signal from Fox in Buffalo.  I know they went cheap on the animation, and "cartoony" on some of the scenes (ie: an electrical plug exploding on Cobra Commander, then he's covered in soot and smoke) but they did develop the storyline on some of the characters (ie: Ambush's background with Range Viper Evy).

I was wondering what other board members thought about the DIC series.  Was it valuable to the Joe Universe or was it a waste of time?

Interesting side note Sci-Fi was voiced by the guy who played Killer Carlson in Slapshot and Ambush was voiced by Walter Koenig's son.

This year I attended Can Joe Con with a good "Joe" friend of mine.  It was his first Can Joe Con.  He was excited to meet Larry Hama, check out all the vendors and he purchased the 2010 Exclusive Box set.

But.... things have turned negatively financially for him over the summer and he is forced to sell off some of his collection, and the box set is one of the items he wants to sell.  He is not a member of the boards and when we were talking yesterday he asked if I could put this post on the boards to see if anyone is interested.

I do not have a complete list of the Joes he is selling yet, He is still working on that with prices.

He wants $350 for his 2010 Canadian Joe Con Exclusive box set.  He is willing to split up the box set as well.

I want to help out my friend as much as possible.  I have purchased a couple items from him.  We have a difference of opinions when it comes to selling the box set, but I am going to keep my opinion to myself on this one, and hope that he can get back on track soon.

Please let me know if you are interested.
