Title: Montreal Toy Con October 17th 2010
Post by: latinjoe22 on July 04, 2010, 12:55:25 PM
The October edition of the Montreal Toy Con is about 2 months after the Joe Canuck convention:

http://site.toysonfire.com/montreal_toy_con/montrealtoycon.html (http://http://site.toysonfire.com/montreal_toy_con/montrealtoycon.html)

For those that never attended the Montreal Toy Con, just think of any toy line, and you might find it there. Seriously, everytime I was there I found something I didn't see the year before, and I'm not talking only vintage but newer toys as well. So you have to start attending if you haven't, otherwise you might miss on something good you'll end finding on Ebay for 3-5 times more.

And I still owe you a visit to the Zellers in my turf. I honestly haven't had the chance, but when I pass by, I'll think of keeping an eye out for Nero.

"No we don't expect you to walk...but you can run! YO-Joe!!"

As Martin put it, it's really too far unless you're athletic and you want to jog it. Jogging, it'll take you 30 minutes. By the time you'd get there, all the good joes will be gone

Take the bus, it's right next to the Cote Vertu Metro station. Tell the driver that you are going to the Guzzo Spheretech. When you get off you'll see the Guzzo walk along it. You'll keep walking and you'll see the Marriott's courtyard. Check on Street view if you want to have a visual scan of the area and memorize before venturing into the unknown if you dont know the area too well.

Well it's a good thing that your arm keeps turning indefinitely in its socket, because I could've kept on going.

Very glad that some of you may come afterall. Still, you have the gratitude of the LJ on behalf of the ToyCon even if you decide to not come in the end. It's the thought that counts.

It says on his bio-card that his first MOS is to be "a soldier that uses ancient stealth techniques to crawl very slowly past enemy lines. He is very often mistaken by enemy snipers for a strange looking rock that is not supposed to move. He leaves an oversized snail like trail behind him to attract potential bait fodder. Usually ambushes enemies from behind another rock with a ninja sword, his weapon of choice.

Yeah, but you don't have his canadian variant bio:

"Lazy Legs never did anything right, never made an effort to make his life right. On a very fateful day, he decided to jump off his 10 storey high appartment building for good. He jumped, shattered close to 60 bones in his body and was instantly made a member of the Corpses! airborne troopers when coming out of the hospital. In missions, Lazy Legs would never bother to secure his parachute since he always looked forward to the next jump. His very "I'm really dead serious this time" attitude awarded him on more than one occasion the respect of many of his comrades who patrioticaly tried to follow his example...only to meet their maker. Strangely no one could match his boldness and to make it back from a mission the only way that Lazy Legs knew how to do it: fall, recover and jump again."

From the General Hog's log: "If a cat has nine lives, then Lazy Legs never really earned them. I can't explain why he's still alive. He always says he's looking forward to his final jump but he always manages to live it through. I lost many good man to this suicidal maniac. Yet, we defeated Common Commander and his forces again and again, perhaps thanks to this still active maskot who motivates my troopers into jumping without fear of dying. The sooner he gets his wish the better - I can't afford to lose any more of my men to him! Yo-corpse!"

There is another toy show in Longueuil (place Desaulniers) on November 27th from a different organizer. Maybe your source got the two shows confused?

The show in question happens every year and is not very well advertised.

That primarily depends on who your source of information is. If you asked me I would answer you right away that it is not true until I verify this with the organizers. But I am not directly concerned by such news so If you really want to know, I'd suggest you ask the cool people from Toys on fire.

Just a question.  If I put a metro ticket on my Opus card and use it to get on the metro, can I then get on a bus without having to use another ticket?  There are no more paper transfers, so I assume the transferring is done with the card, right?

Yes, a "ticket" is valid for one correspondance. Meaning with the same ticket you can take the metro, and then use the bus, or vice versa. Remember: One correspondance. This means, that once you're out of the metro, you can only take one bus. If you get off that bus to take another one, you'll end up using another ticket.

And yes, your explaining about the transferring is accurate.

Thanks, just making sure.  I know how transfers work, I was just confused since there's no more support for paper tickets, effectively screwing over anyone without an overpriced Opus card.  I'm sure tourists are thrilled. ::)
I'll have to load up on tickets next time I'm out.

Pfft, Mayan calendar is small-time.  I'm waiting for my Hoverboard in a few years, and of course, 2291's legalization of Deathmatch.

I won't be able to make it to this ToyCon...  Sorry guys, maybe next time.

According to the Mayan calendar, you still have less than two years to attempt to make all those things happen for yourself  ;D

I heard a rumor that it may happen as early as 2245.  As long as the Mole people are not disturbed to start the final conflict! Battlefield Earth!  ::)

Count me in as one of those that can't make it as well.

I'm still recovering from surgery and there's no way I can handle the long trip there.
(I can barely handle a trip to my local Wal-Mart)

Seriously, it was the first time I attended and I was surprised at how much stuff was available. In my experience, Joes are hard to come by at collector's shows. Well, holy carp, there were Joes as far as the eye could see... I picked up a PoC AWE Striker, a 25th BAT and a few other odds and ends. I also scored a PoC Alley-Viper at the St-Laurent Zellers. The card and blister looked like a forklift ran over the case, but the figure itself is fine.

It was great to see Latinjoe again. I also met a couple of TF fans. All in all, a great time :)

Lots of vintage. Figures were abundant and there were quite a few vehicles as well.

Yes, once again, I must give credit to MIA collectibles for saving the reputation of good ol' ARAH gi joes. I even bought a convention exclusive Natalie Pool and a Funskool Budo from him which were fantastic finds.

OB, glad you had a good time. I also had some good fun teamin up with Dodge822 and will definitely repeat the experience. Now for me to get back to reality and check on him to make sure he made it safely back home.

Good to see you're alive man!  ;D . I still wish we would've had more time for you to see more of the City... but I'm glad that you decided to give it a try and that you liked it.

Huh, drat. Looks like I gave my wants list to the wrong people.

The person who went there with my list said he saw little that wasn't new stuff. (granted, my wants list didn't have any Joes on them, just a Transformer from 2002 and a few DC toys from 1989/1990)

Maybe the people you give your wants list kept all the good findings to themselves  ::)

Why would they keep Tidal Wave or ToyBiz's Superman, Batman and Green Lantern to themselves?

Can't answer for TF, but Toybiz's early toys still retain popularity with some collectors. You're making it sound as if collectors don't want them at all. My friend who collects vintage to newer stuff had some at the show, along with Kenner's super powers.

Okay, but the person who I gave my wants list to wasn't interested in those toys for themselves.

I total forget about those. I think I have a set of those somewhere in my attic somewhere. Are they about 8 - 10 inches tall?
