My 80's style CanJoeCon BACKSTOP & CHACAL NOIR
« on: September 12, 2009, 11:05:14 PM »

Hi guys,

I customized this 80's style Backstop and I based him on how he looked in the 2009 Canadian Joe Convention set.

To the left is the original figure from the Convention set, and to the right is my custom.

I speed paint him yesterday night and this morning did some touch-ups. And Voila!

Let me know what you think. I'm planning on doing his brother too, I just have to finish gathering all the parts before I start working on him.

Not only is it a great translation of the paint scheme, it looks amazing in the ARAH style. Fantastic part choices, great paint job. I'm impressed.

Thanks guys,

This morning I was going through my bag of parts and it looks like it's soon going to be Baldy's turn to get a ARAH makeover.

I look forward to taking a pic of Chacal Noir vs Backstop.

That is an amazing job. His belt buckle doesn't say US does it?

That is a much better paint scheme. I am wondering though if you can do something to replicate the silver kneepads.

Or maybe kneepads are only for modern figures. ;-)

Yes there is a way I can replicate the knee pads but I didn't see the need too. I could've put the shoulder pads of Capt. Grid Iron and slap them on Backstop's knees....however some characters who got a 25th makeover never had sculpted kneepads to start with in their original ARAH release. Instead I did abstraction of the 25th Anniversary Novalty, and simulated what this figure would've looked like if this figure was released back then. Well, at least that's what I tried to achieve  :)

And Damn! You have good eyes Raptor! Yes the "U.S" on the beltbuckle was a major oversight from me. i meant to change it, but in the end I'm going to jump to other things and get back to it eventually. I just got the head I'll be using for Chacal Noir. I'm waiting for the legs to arrive in the mail. So stay tuned for Chacal Noir!!! ( Coming soon...I hope )

Okay guys, I had a hard time choosing the final parts to begin work on Chacal Noir. Maybe I should've asked you for advice but I really wanted to surprise all of you.

I could've chosen other parts like Salvo's torso, but I opted instead for Outback's since it is slicker in design and would look nice once painted. Salvo's torso is too detailed for the job, and painting it in black would unfortunately mask the beautiful wrinkles on the shirt. Plus, I had three Outback torso's so there was nothing to lose.

The only thing I'm missing on this guy is doing some touch-ups and puchasing some neat silver Cobra insignas from cobrastickers.com. And painting his sleeves grey ( my grey paint dried so I gotta do a run at the stores this week ).

By the way, I originally started slowly working on Timbit. This Timbit will be different from the Canadian Joe Meet offering. He's in the works ( about 60% done and he'll actually look like the co-driver of the Persuader. Plus, he's going to have his own helmet. Since the Persuader is a two -men vehicle, Backstop will be delivering extreme firepower from his manned turret and since Timbit never takes the same road twice hence eluding Cobra's firing scope and hidden landmines, he'll be the designated driver.

looking good on chacal noir, although I can see some green in his legs where they attach to his hip section but its a minor point. Great work though keep it up.
