Title: RIP Macho Man
Post by: grunt 4 mvp on May 20, 2011, 06:41:45 PM
Car accident...tragedy.
I wasn't the biggest wrestling fan, but I always liked him and will always remember his Slim Jim commercial and his Spiderman cameo.
RIP

That really is a shame. I always wanted to see him come back. I never did fully understand what he did that put him on the "do not call list" with the WWF/E. I understood it had something to do with Stephany.

Look at the sad story of some of the wrestlers we grew up with:

Drugs and early deaths are a common thing apparently.

Another internet rumour that Steph herself has said was "Laughable".

Savage made a remark with "the boys" about how "Vince better watch out, the boys are looking for fun, and Steph is of age now! Oh yeah!".

A YEAR after that he left for WCW.

Well of course Steph would deny it.

All kidding aside, what was it that put him on the bad list? It can't be going to WCW. Lots of guys jumped ship to another promotion yet were able to come back. Heck, look at Christian going to TNA AND keeping his name Christian Cage (since legally he used that name before joining WWE), and winning the NWA Heavy weight title while it was under TNA control.

I get Ken Anderson being put on the list, but not Savage.

Gonna miss Macho Man.  Unfortunately he will be post-humously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.  It should have been done when he was alive, and could tour as a WWE Legend.

Did the WWE do a tribute to him last night on RAW?  I was too busy last night to check it out.

They did and they went all out. Whatever put Savage in Vince's bad books all those years ago, they buried the hatchet with this tribute. It sucks that it took the man's death to do it, but they could have just put up a black and white still and had JR say something appropriate. They really made Savage out to be the unsung superstar that he was.

Randy Savage Tribute Video (http://http://vids.wwe.com/12126/an-extraordinary-tribute-to-mach)

As an added tribute, CM Punk wore pink tights and yellow knee pads in emulation of Savage's look against Ricky Steamboat.

I was very saddened by the news.  Ironically he crashed just up the road from my place in Florida and was received at the Largo Medical Center just around the corner.  One of the wrestling superstars I had the distinct pleasure of meeting in person who has passed away, along with Chris Benoit and Jake the Snake Roberts.

Despite all his demons, Jake the Snake is still alive.

So it seems I've been misinformed about Jake the Snake.    He's one man I wish well.

Another part of my childhood died with this news last Friday.  He is probably the first of the major wrestlers (i.e. main eventers) that I grew up that has passed away.  I don't count Andre the Giant as he was on his last legs when I first watched him.  Savage was the first total package as a wrestler I can remember.

At least he lived to 58.  But a heart attack and then losing control of your vehicle has to be nightmare way to go out.

It's truly a shame and sad another icon we grew up with as kids is now gone. He was part of the heart and soul of the old WWF. I don't think i have watched wrestling since back then, but i sure did enjoy it back in the 80s, and he was a big reason why.

So true for me. I really enjoyed watching WWF wrestling back then on TV and watching Hulk Hogan, Honky tonk man (entertaining to watch him dance or smash a guitar), the Ultimate Warrior (his veins had me praying "please don't explode live!"). But Randy Macho Man Savage was the first wrestler that made me go to a store and buy his famous picture frame of him with Elizabeth sitting on his shoulder. Man, I really loved the guy, even when he fought Hulk Hogan at some point. I know most of it was a show, but man, I really cared about that incredible show wrestlers put just for us. And I just watched the movie "The Wrestler" yesterday for the first time and instantly remembered towards the end, Macho Man amongst others.
