Title: AFA loose figures
Post by: Pete The Greek on July 31, 2005, 10:39:29 PM
I am taking this link from a thread I saw on yojoe.com

http://cgi.ebay.com/Cobra-Baroness-AFA- ... dZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com/Cobra-Baroness-AFA-90_W0QQitemZ5990447517QQcategoryZ2467QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

In my view, is a low point in the collector commmnity.  Why on earth do you want a loose GI JOE sealed for?  Doesn't this defeat the point of having loose toys for display, play etc.?  Some people see that as an investment. Whatever.

As i said in that thread over on yojoe, these people aren't collecting the toys anymore, they're collecting the AFA grade. Sad really....

this is madness, MADNESS I say. You want a sealed toy, get the moc, mib, you want a loose toy get a loose toy and don't trap it , let it be free ( to live some adventures or simly collect dust).

This whole afa thingy is messing up with the hobby.

I couldn't agree with you more.

I can understand the point  for  the  afa graded  MOC, MIB  stuff.. ( not that  i nessesarily agree with it)   but loose figures  come on!  That  sounds like a  money grab to me.

all it's gonna do is make  some stuff more expensive for us  to  buy in the future.

I agree that this is messed up and a money grab.

One question I have to ask is why did the AFA even bother with a loose figure in the first place?

I also wonder how much more rediculous will this get. Will we see someone try to auction off an AFA graded Hooded Cobra Commander head? How about AFA graded air.

I read some where that somebody sent in a mail in Cobra Commander that was still boxed to AFA.  So AFA is going to grade the shape of the box without knowing the condition of the figure inside (as you can't see it)?  It sure sounds like a cash grab to me.

And I agree with Shane on this.  Your not collecting toys any more, just a grade.

You know, this is most likely the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

I have a customer that wants his stuff all AFA graded (MOC items).

I told him for half the price - I'LL GRADE IT!

He said (his words exactly) "But the AFA logo is what makes it worth more money".

So.... based on that, let's say Pete, Shane, and myself start the 'Canadian Action Figure Grading Company' and only grade CND issued items.

Does that mean ALL CND items graded by us should be worth more?

Lame.

That in itself speaks volumes.  If people think toys are an investment, they need a reality check.  Get some real estate instead.

Are you serious? I thought the whole point was to see who could collect the most army builders, then brag on the internet.

Like the poster on my toy room wall "He who dies with the most toys.... Still Dies."
