Title: Post Canadian Joe Con appreciation thread!
Post by: NeoDragonKnight on August 07, 2010, 05:27:53 PM
I have to say after being at both 2009 and 2010 cons that this Years con was a thousand times better then last years, it just "felt" different to me.  I had so much more fun and memories.  Chatting with folks in line, sharing thoughts and stories, meeting new people.  Meeting Larry Hama in person and having him sketch me a Lady Jaye, and then listening to his great Q and A.  The funny thing is he would go on these tangents but they were so interesting that you just followed along regardless, hes filled with thoughts and opinions and very willing to share them which made the session amazing.  Mark's session was different, but it was fun, Mark is such a fantastic public speaker you are entertained no matter what.  The vendors were really good this year, lots of cheap deals (some not but thats to be expected), and a far greater selection then last year, I walked the floor several times and found new stuff each time especially in the cheap bins.  The venue was also miles better then last years (no offense to Hamilton), the atmosphere was just far more "bright" and clean I guess the right word is.  I hope this year's con will continue with this kind of atmosphere and excitement in next years con and beyond.  I was honestly constantly smiling and had a giggly feeling and having a fantastic time and felt like a kid in a candy store.  Thanks for the best Con I have been to JoeCanuck staff, vendors, guests, and fellow boardies and attendees.

I was in line at 4 am, and I was lucky enough to get my set and the SNAKE.

What I did different this year is that I'm sleeping at the hotel. So I was able to stay at the con all day for the presentations, Q&A, etc. I really appreciated the sense of humour of Zach Hoffman. That guy was very funny!!! Also, all other guests were very available for autographs... which I got a lot!!!  ;D

I also found most of the things I was looking for (vintage or newer stuff). So congrats to dealer for having great prices and a lot of variety. Note to all dealers, next year bring with you a swivel version of Stalker  :'(

Congrats to Mike and his team for the planning, work, update, etc.

I had plenty of fun with me Montreal crew who joins me in my car so we split gaz cost... and more  :shifty: at 10h am   :'(

Also, I can now put a face on username. It was nice meeting people from last year...and people I had never met yet.

Can't wait for next year con... in Montreal  :shifty:

I attended my first convention of any kind today with my father and younger brother and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I purchased a ton of gifts for my brother mostly consisting of 25th anniversary and a few exclusive RoC things and several vintage items for myself. We were also fortunate to have won a door prize (Pursuit of Cobra Steel Marauder Mech suit). All in all, I had a really good time and hope next year's convention will be close to Toronto as well. The venue was great, the vendors were great (well, most of them - I went back to this one table several times, a gentleman and his wife who were just great), and the special guests were fantastic as well.

Thanks to all who came out today and made the 2010 Canadian G.I.Joe Convention another resounding success. If it weren't for you attending, we'd have no con to run, so thanks to YOU for making all the effort worthwhile!

I'd have to agree with a lot of what NeoDragon said in his first post, this was by far the best one yet!

The Zach Hoffman Q and A was one of the most entertaining times I've ever had with an actor and I really, really hope you guys put it up on youtube for all Joe fans to see.

My only complaint at all would have to be...no pepperets  :'( what happened?

Did I get everything I wanted? No, but then again I don't think any of us truly do  ;D
I did get a ton of stuff and spent much much more than I was expecting but thats they way it goes. You always find something (or 10) that you weren't expecting lol.

My only advice for future Joecons would be for more guests (comic writers/artists, voice actors and others involved with the shows).....my wish is for Don Johnson  ;D

Can't wait for next year, keep up the great work!!!

I agree with everyone that posted so far.  This was my first CON and I'm already can't wait for next years!  My favourite part was finally putting a face to posters here.  I did not meet everyone that I wanted too but that will have to wait until next year!

Today WAS Awesome!

This was my first time to a joe con.  My 3 year old son and I attended and had a blast.  Meeting Zach Hoffman was a pleasant surprise as he was really down to earth and alround great guy.  Larry was great too.  Got him to sign my "Unmasked" Gi Joe comic and "The NAM" Issue #1.  I think my son and I did about 5 laps around the track in the dealer room.  Found new stuff to buy and see each time.  Great deals by some great dealers for sure.  I met a chatted with a few people there (Didn't get any names) and really enjoyed talking to everyone we met.

After we got home we dumped out all our bags of stuff and played together for hours!  ...its still set up for tomrrow!

A huge thanx to all those involved with setting up & running the Joe Con, it was very well organized, and alot of fun.

Every year it amazes me to see how far the 'Con grows and attracts more and more people.  It's come so far from a handful of guys in '04 (my first year) to now.  I've got nothing but respect & props for Mike, Stealth, and the rest of the team that put this together every year.

As always, walking in the dealer room can't help but make you feel like a kid in a candy store with the wall to wall joes.  Its always nice to see familiar faces behind the tables too.  I certainly was able to snag a few deals to fill some holes ;)

Both Zack and Larry for me were enthralling and it really was very cool to here stories from both the cartoon and comic side of things.  Meeting Zack afterwards was a real pleasure too. I can't say much more other than he's a real top shelf guy and easily one of the most down to earth celebrities I've had the opportunity to meet.

Honestly I can't think of much else to say right now other than I had an absolute blast.

Once again, cheers to all those involved :timbits:

Amazing!!!!!  The best one yet. By far.
First off thanks to Larry Hama - I must have talked to him for at least 20 min over the last two days. What a great guy.  Interesting stories to share.
Thanks also to the friends I made - Mike/Blitzkreig, Florida Ryan, Roshan
Thanks to dodge for getting me through the long wait
Thanks to greast deals from Pierre / Jouets, gsmiley, latinjoe, martin-montreal, nova and pdaat
Thanks to old freinds like Hal and Jason
Thanks to Mike for spearheading it again. Well done. Your efforts are appreciated by all.

Cheers to anyone forgotten!

Another good edition of the convention goes by. It had almost everything except for two small complaints. I guest couldn't make it but I guess it will be for another year. There wasn't much lighting at the beginning of the convention....but that was solved in the next hour or so. Also sorry to those who couldnt spot me because I was dressed up as TUnnel Rat. Didnt feel too well to undergo the task at first due for reasons of not feeling too well. But I ultimately did an effort and got into the spirit of the convention.

Liked where the event was held but I have to question attendance. I never got the impression there was a lot of people at the convention, not more than last years' convention. Did anyone had the same feeling as me or comment further on this?

Also my first impression upon getting the convention set was that the convention set was missing its strong masterpiece. I was wrong. I find thast the items of the set are meant to be just important as one another. The real centerpiece and jem of this set to my eyes is the comic book. Didn't finish reading it but It got me captivated from the beginning. Aside of that the exclusive SNAKE armor is my favorite convention item. Small but extremely prized in my joecanuck collection as was already a fan of it in the ARAH line.

At last, couldn't possibly meet everyone and missed meeting Bandanov but that just proves that there is always a lot of things to do at the convention and not enough time to do them all. Meeting Zach Hoffman will be cherished in my souvenirs. I had him do an impersonation of Zartan. It sure was funny as hell to hear him say my name in his famous voice.

Finally, we stayed overnight at the hotel and it's 4h30am I have a headache and I'm finishing typing this from the hotel's internet booth. THANKS SO MUCH GUYS FOR ANOTHER SUPER CONVENTION SPENT IN YOUR COMPANY!!!!! (and thanks to the tall not so skinny guy, with glasses, for the generous slices of pizza and cheezy bread sticks, you're awesome as always Paul)

it was hard to tell, the floor always seemed to be reasonably filled with people throughout the day, it might have been that people left but new people came in.  But like Mark Bellamo said there seemed to be way more kids this year then last and that's a fantastic thing.  It always brought a smile to my face seeing the kids get something they really wanted and get excited about, reminded me of how I felt at that age at getting a new toy.  Also keep in mind that this is vacation season as well as taste of danforth weekend.  Both my brother and my neice and nephew were going to come but one had to goto Montreal for vacation and the other had to work.  2 of my other friends were going to go as well but one went camping and the other went to taste of danforth.  I did manage to bring one friend though.  But because of the timing we maybe lost out on a few admissions (4 or 5 for me alone)

There were certainly more kids this year, which is fantastic. G.I. Joe is, after all - a toy. It should attract a lot of kids :D

Rough numbers at days' close yesterday put attendance about equal, if not slightly more, than last year. The reason it may seem that there were less is that it was a bigger venue. So people were more spread out.

also wanted to add that I think the vendors were able to sell a lot more this year because the selection and pricing was way better then last year, I myself bought way more then last year and Im sure many others were the same.

OK, the 12 hour drive is over and I've just work up from a 11 hour nap :P

Another great show guys!  Thanks again for all the work you put in to make it happen.  I agree with the opinions earlier that the show floor had a better selection than ever, and that prices were very fair.
That Con comic was the highlight of the set, and it's awesome that you guys put forth so much effort into the joecanuck/cobra north mythos.  Snake Byte was my least favorite figure going into con and became my favorite figure of the set after reading that book.
Thank you also to the ATM machine for running out of money, because I probably would have spent another $500 on the show floor and had a very pissed off wife on the way home.  Automatic teller error is the best deterrent to a plastic crack addiction :)
Thanks to the customs official who made the crossing trouble free this year, it was a nice change of pace.
Thanks to all the old friends and new who I met this weekend.  Special thanks to Pdaat for bringing the GI Joe monopoly, and taking pity on me early in the game which led to my later victory!
Thanks to pizza/pizza for delivering to the line at 2 am :)
Thanks to all of you parents who brought your kids out to show them how fun a joe con can be, and at the same time, thanks to all the generosity at the freebie table so the kids could take home some cool stuff.

I wanted to sign up here and say I few words. I was a collector of 80's toys back in the UK until I moved to Canada in January of this year; selling everything before the move. I missed the recent 80's convention, so wanted to show up to this since it was so close to me.

Although I don't really have much interest in GI Joe itself I found the convention itself really interesting. You can tell it was done with great care and attention to detail. I also felt like it was very accessible to collectors of all levels, with the traders not appearing to fleece everyone at any given opportunity. The pricing seemed fair and had I been looking to start a collection I could have done so very easily. I was very happy to give $15 in order to keep what is obviously a very passionate community going!

I talked to Mark Bellomo about his clear labour of love and bought the 2nd edition of his book, again, not that I have a great interest in the subject; but I respect the work and people that book out material like this deserve support. I actually did buy a MoC Funskool Tunnel Rat and got it signed by Larry, along with the foreword in the collectors guide.

Great work to everyone involved at every level, including the fans. Who knows, this time next year I may have a Joe collection!

Wanted to take the time to stop by and thank everyone for a great show.  Thank you for the compliments for my Dusty costume as well, there's a pic of it on my newly opened twitter site (http://http://twitter.com/neoengel) and I love the photo the Sun (not the Star as I had previously thought) got of me caught drinking my coffee (#6 in the Toronto Sun gallery posted here (http://http://www.torontosun.com/news/torontoandgta/2010/08/07/14955471.html)).  Saw my friend Steph as an awesome Scarlett and we hammed it up with Cobra Commander and Destro for a CHCH bit... all within 30 minutes of my arrival to the con.

My helmet is off to THE MIKE and the gang for an ever increasingly awesome show and I look forward to next year.  A definite highlight of the day was Mr. Hoffman greeting me and reciting a line from the show in Zartan's voice.

I have been slacking on my Joe-love lately but since then i have (continued) work on my cobra mountain (which has been on hold for 4 years....yikes) and started stringing up my Rattler collection to the ceiling

It's always a great time and I'll see you all again next year.

Great con even with Hasbro failing to show up (twice).  Picked up far too much but got pretty much everything I was looking for.

Thank you threads usually are a dangerous thing as you usually forget someone (or their name) but here goes:

To the motley crew who played Monopoly.  Thanks for helping to pass many hours in such a fine fashion - even with my early "blunder" with Roshan.  However, perhaps we could have a rule about taking crotch shots in line next year (it was very painful to watch).

Roshan for hooking me up with some POC stuff - and also doing the CCCCC as well as the trivia contest.

LJ22 for being himself as well as a fine vehicle part hunter.

The vendors for having (for the most part) very reasonable prices and fine selection.

To my fellow boardmates I had a chance to get to know a little bit better this year.  At the same time, I had a chance to meet some other guys who aren't a regular part of the board (such as James K and Blitzkreig).  This was my third con and quite a bit different for me as I took the time to do a fair bit more interaction with fellow fans and it made the Con immensely more enjoyable).

To my boys who, over all, were very well behaved.

For my wife and daughter for not killing me upon seeing the near full trunk.

To the cosplayers - giving freely of their time to bring some extra enjoyment to the show.

To the guests - Larry, Zach, David, Loop, Mark - thank you for indulging (tolerating) us in our particular brand of zeal.  I just wish I could have made all the panels.

And of course to all volunteers and organizers - thanks for putting it all together.  It is all very much appreciated!  And an extra thanks for Mike for the freebie  :shifty:.  Remember - free camping (with campfire) in my backyard (unless of course we have to line up............)

It was the comic. Pdaat was there when I arrived and help bring all the con sets and crap inside. So I gave him a comic - he was the first one of you all to read it!

Yep, Just want to thank the whole joe canuck team again for putting the show together. It was my favorite con yet honestly (both US and CAN). I'm sure everyone appreciates the hard work in making this happen.

I was happy to spend some time with familiar faces and meet a few new ones. It's great to put some faces with the usernames here.

The wait in line was fun. Got you watch Pdaat, Roshan and crew playing monopoly. Got to meet shark and spectre along with some others in line.

I too would like to thank Mike, his wife and all the staff members that made my first Joe con so enjoyable!  I've been to plenty anime cons (with the creepy/showboating people in costume, crowds that don't no where to go and events that aren't timed right) and this was nothing like that.  While I don't wish to stress Mike, I really hope he takes care of the 2011 con!
I took pictures and video and will be editing/uploading it to Youtube by Saturday (I hope).  Mike seemed reluctant to have his picture taken, so I won't be adding it without his permission...  maybe I'll have it printed and give it to him next year, personally:wink:

It was my first joe-con, (didn't even now a canadian con existed until a few months back, I would have come years earlier otherwise!) and it was a blast. Fully worth the travel from Sorel, Quebec. I made the trip with friends, and had a good time in and out of the convention itself.

While I didn't win anything either in draws or the quiz, it was more than compensated by the awesome deals at the dealer tables. I never expected the prices would be so low in general. And I managed to fill 2 of my 10 most wanted items wish-list!

I'm just sad I missed the Lara Hama Q&A. I was a bit late, and the doors where locked when I came, too bad.

Thanks to the people running the convention. Keep it up, I'll be there again for sure.
Thanks to Martin for bringing me, sorry guys for taking so much space in the car with my purchases!
Thanks to Zack Hoffman for signing my transparent Zartan's filecard, and being an all-around cool guy.
And thanks to all the generous dealers I bought from (especially Pierre and Melanie, friendlier dealers would be impossible) The profit must not have been very high, so you sure deserve our appreciation, and not just the money we all gave you.

A special shout-out to turner - this was his first Joe convention of any type and he came all the way from Florida!

Thanks for the shout out!  I'm totally exhausted!  Sleep deprivation, lack of nutrition, and a sore throat from the line up!  Over 2500 miles for me, just got home today.

Some of the reasons I wanted to attend was to meet you guys, meet Larry Hama and others, and get some 80's stuff at good prices.  I was not dissappointed!  It was really great to put a face and a voice to so many of you guys!

Grunt4mvp, thanks for the friendship during that 7 hour line up and for the inside scoop on all things Canadian!
Rodgerdodger, thanks also for the companionship on the line.  And double thanks for sharing your chair, your cushion, and giving my son a joe!
Canprime, thanks for the last hour's conversation and for the parking spot!  I wouldn't have made it through the line without you guys!
Pdaat, thanks for the talks and for having the boys for mine to play with!
Roshan, thanks for the conversations, and the contests!
Nova, thanks for the deals man, and that great box of accessories!
Gsmiley, good to meet you in person, and thanks for the trade!
Blitzkrieg, thanks for the talks especially in the lineup!
5h4rK and Spectre (right?), great to meet you, and even though we didn't talk that much, you garnered my respect as good guys.
Bandonov, Dodge822, latinjoe22, good to see you guys in person!
Jason, thanks for the kindness to my boy!
Mike, thanks for a well-ran and great experience.

video is unavailible now... I never got a chance to watch it  :(

I got to see a lot of great Joe fans again this year which is always nice plus I met a ton of great people at the con and in the line for wristbands but I didn't catch everybody's name so I'm not sure who everyone was.   The Alley Viper shirt must have clouded my social reason so I forgot to actually introduce myself.   :-[  D'OH!

Just the same way I remember what I sold to you at past Montreal Toy Con editions, I am positive I told you about the Joe Canuck convention. I try to promote it as much as I can, any chance I get. But alas, that's not important anymore, what really matters is that you came finally. I keep telling other Montrealers to drive to the Canadian Joe Con, and I know that it may take a while for some to join the board as well, but I'm especially glad that you did both at the same time. They still don't know what they're missing on, but you know that now. So congrats to you, and in a way even if your stuff took more than half of our space for our stuff in Martin's car, one must only look at the bright side and see that you helped a lot of dealers that day by doing a lot of purchases, and I'm sure it's very well appreciated of them as well. So really, congrats to you, and happy that you could be all part of it. I know how you feel bad about not beeing able to do everything you wanted to do. I have the same feeling too, some of it is self-inflicted  ;D (such as me wanting to stay at the dealer's table, knowing that there is an interesting Q&A to start). That's why there's always next year to look up to  But do stick around on the boards, it'll make the next year's convention so much more worthwhile when it comes to meeting new members.

I would like to thank The Canadian JoeCon for all their hard work. I would also like to thank Larry Hama for the sketches he made me he wanted a potf 1995 full size millennium falcon I had. So after buying the first sketch I said he could have the ship for another sketch. He loved the idea. He customizes some star wars ships for fun. He was great to talk to again and surprisingly remembered me from 2 years ago.

I was unable to attend the Con this year, after planning to go almost all year  >:(  However, all was not lost.  pdaat was kind enough to keep an eye out for me, and ended up snagging me several vehicle parts I had been after for quite a while, including a few I had never even seen for sale before!  So a very special thanks to him.  And don't worry guys, OlYeller will make it up there sometime soon!  After all, I want to review a Con set one of these days! :shifty:

It was my first Canadian Joe Con and I had a blast. Was really impressed with how well the show was run and it was great to meet so many awesome fellow Joe fans. I missed out on grabbing a few figures I needed due to work but that just gives me more to look for next time. Congratulations on a great show! :) Yo Joe!

this is something we should plan for next year, a time to meet at lunch. Eat a pizza all together just to say Hi and introduce ourself. Our group did that with another Montreal crew (5h4rk and TheSpecter) at the end of the day. It was really fun.

I second that. Mike, it was great meeting you. I hope you and your staffers got some well-deserved rest on Sunday, because you guys were constantly busy during the con. But all your hard work paid off with a terrific con. I'm already hoping I can attend next year.

Canprime -- I was the guy right in front of you in line and I really enjoyed talking to you about Joes, movies, theatre, restaurants and lots of other things. It helped make the time pass so fast and it was nice to meet new friends like you, the awesome Turner and his son, also with trivia king James, and others who I've sadly forgotten your names. The two French Canadians in front of me sipping Cokes were very nice and I really enjoyed talking to you guys as well. Also the friendly couple behind me in line (he's a teacher and she's an actress). If any of you read this, drop me a PM with your names so I won't forget you again.
Overall, I've got to say that the line was one of my favorite parts of the con. I enjoyed meeting people  and getting to talk to fellow Joe fans who are as enthusiastic (or more) than I am about the hobby. Roshan's hourly prizes were awesome (although I didn't win anything) and his trivia contest in the afternoon was extrenmely fun. (I need to brush up on my JoeCon knowledge) -- Roger Barnhart

My wife and I had a blast. The JoeCustoms booth will be there again next year and will hopefully have a customizing presentation too. Here are a few pics we took. Looking back I wish I took more pics throughout the day, but I spent a lot of time talking to people and putting faces to online names or meeting new people. Larry and Mark were courteous and entertaining guests as usual. Wish I could have made it to the Hoffman presentation.

Furthermore and now that things are slowly coming back to normal here in Montreal:

I'd like to thank the team for putting up together another day that I call personally a typical Canadian Gi Joe celebration day.

I have to admit that It was hard for me to appreciate the greatness of this year's con on the very same day and even the next morning as I typed my post from one of the hotel's internet stations about how I felt about it. What I have to tell you now, and only two fellow montrealers that came with me knew already to a certain extent, is that things turned bad for me a couple of days just before the con. I even considered not coming at all. This is not the first time I come so close to not attending, but hey I'm still here for the love of Gi joe, and you're still there, that's what matters. It was worth attending and see you guys smile, see entire families smile. I did have fun in the end thanks to all the positive energy emaning from you guys and the guests too. Not seeing Mary made me a bit more sad, but I heard that she'll still attend in the future. No offense to Larry Hama, he is an extremely knowledgable person to summarize in a few words but I was unavoidibly slipping into a coma during his presentation (I had accumulated lack of sleep from all week and didn't get to sleep much in the passenger's rear seat to make up for it I can't sleep enough in car rides, buses or planes anyway - I blame the wonderful world of architecture) but stayed out of respect for the man who gave life to ARAH. It was worth it to stay seated anyway because I kind of woke up when my friend asked about the C.o.p.s. line question and that's when I learned that Beach head's son is an elite cop fighting crime in the future time! Zach was a blast and perhaps a friend anyone would like to have I'm sure. I didn't record his impersonation of him as Zartan punishing me for failing him again but it's all in my head and for me alone to treasure over and over again. If I hadn't come, I would've missed out on all this, and completing some neat items of my collection too that I have been dying to complete for awhile now.

I have to admit that I even had mixed feelings about the con set the very same day of the con, but the comic book which I find personnaly to be the definitive master centerpiece cleared everything for me in the next day or so. The power of the comic book is indeed mysterious, yet very powerful. Thanks Mike and Loo and all those responsible for delivering this gem, you guys made a big difference for this Joe Canuck fan as I will most definetely cherrish these as well as translating these guys to the ARAH style. It's already in the works. Perhaps I didn't get number 22, but I don't need to be luckier than I already am to have been a part of this special day.

Keep it up Joe Canuck team as you always do anyway to go beyond yourselves to deliver the best.

Cheers to all and see you next year!

Speaking of which, given that US Joe con is now announced in late March in Orlando, will the Canada Con be returning to it's traditional first weekend in May?

It was only suitable that NFC's custom Alley Viper shirt stands side by side my framed custom cardart. Thanks for posting this picture man, it does bring back old memories. It made me remembered that I forgot to leave the damn thing next to my customs....I guess it's a curse thing: First The Mike three years ago tells me not to put it next to my contest entry (and yes he had very good reasons), then me forgetting now! But seriously I was so distracted that day, except for having fun of course!

NFC: Remember the first time we spoke at the Canadian Joe Meet back in 2008? Larry Hama and Loo were having this discussion about the Cold War or something like that, and you really wanted to ask him a question about Cobra-La but weren't so sure. When you actually told me what the question was, me and somebody else (passing by, who filmed you guys talking) loved the question so much we wanted to hear his answer, so that's when you went for the kill. What was the exact question again? I'm getting old...

I was at 2009 Can Joe Con and I was at this years Can Joe Con.  Comparing the 2 shows I enjoyed this years show more.  The Sheraton is a great location to have the convention.  It is easy to get to.  It is also big and bright.  The vendor floor has lots of space for the dealers and convention goers to get around and browse.  There were a couple vendors from the 2009 Joe Con that I would have liked to see at this years convention, but I know there are a lot of shows and it is not cheap to get around to them all.

I only have one complaint about this years show and that is the amount of time I had to wait in line.  I showed up just after 9am.  I had already completed the registration form so I wouldn't have to wait to register.  But we still had to wait.  I wasn't interested in purchasing the convention exclusive, so I wish there was a way I could have bypassed the exclusive line to get into the show to see the vendor floor.  When we did get in it took a couple minutes to pay for admission and get our passes.  That is my only complaint and it is just a mild inconvenience, I just couldn't wait to get in there.

Many thanks to the guys who put on the show.  I know it is a lot of hard work and it is greatly appreciated.  This year is bigger than last year.  And next year will be bigger again.  We all need to get the word out about Canadian G.I. Joe Convention.  Yo Joe!

I'm getting old too, I can't remember the exact question either.   I think it had something to do with if he ever worried about his job continuing to write the Joe comic when he took his stand on refusing to use Cobra-La in the comics in the 80s and if he actually didn't mind using Nemesis Enforcer just once for the 2008 comic pack (that was a well written piece of comic literature IMO).  I THINK the question was something like that.   Does that sound right?

y'know I don't think I've replied yet to this thread.  Mike and his team deserve every accolade we can think of.  It's definitely not an easy task putting a show like this together and these guys really work their asses off for us.

For the last two years running it has been an absolute pleasure to converse with NFC - this guy is the last comic standing.  And it was really great to see Raptor - even if he did wear G.I. Joe Movie trousers.  Pete I didn't know you got married dude, congrats!  Now you don't have to commute from Ajax to Woodbridge/Markham to visit ;).  Seeing Jon S as Chuckles made the con for me right there.

I got to meet supernova, Pluv, and Lance Spudnik for the first time - hope to see more JC presence at future cons.

Not sure if there's a suggestions thread but I have a comment:

I think there were early promo materials stating that the line-up will start at 6:00 AM (correct me if I'm wrong).  If that's the case, then the Sheraton should have really enforced the rule and not have people loiter on their property since 12 midnight.  Sorry if you were one of those early birds but you guys weren't following the rules outlined.

While we currently don't have a date secure for the 2011 Canadian JoeCon, I can assure you that it will NOT be in May. The Summer was very very good to us and it allows people to bring kids, take vacations freely as to not miss any school or take time off work during an "off" season.

Expect it to be in either June, July, or August again.

....and no, I have no clue when I'll be able to announce it. Hopefully before the end of this year.

Pete I didn't know you got married dude, congrats!  Now you don't have to commute from [s:f8sqsgdw]Ajax[/s:f8sqsgdw] Oshawa to [s:f8sqsgdw]Woodbridge/[/s:f8sqsgdw]Markham to visit ;).
Thanks.  But had to fix some of the locals.  I am probably 5-10 minutes from where you live in Markham.
Another Markhamite yay.

Markville Mall is in so much trouble now that all us are within striking distance of it.

Nah, you guys will be fine.  I am done with army building.  I have stopped being a completist.   I am not even sure if I want to collect any more.  I just want to set back and start setting up my stupid large collection.

I guess I haven't said that much in this thread as I'm one of the "guys".

I want to thank everyone involved in this project as well. Everyone has something different to bring to the table when we plan this stuff. To say there is a lot of planning and discussion on each set is and understatement. I'm not going to go into what goes on "behind the curtain" but what I can say there is a strong family feeling when we hash this stuff out.

Besides that, I want to thank all the guys that help spread the word. Justin is great for keeping our name out there. We have help from Radio Guy with the set up and getting our name around. There are others that have helped but right now are slipping my mind.

Thanks to our loyal vendors who keep coming back year after year. Without them we might be back under the bowling alley.

Finally, thanks to all you Canuckle Heads who show up every year. Keep spreading the word. The more people that come means the more we can offer.

I'd like to say thanks to everyone for making my first JoeCon a great one! I wouldn't have even thought about going if it weren't for NFC and Xhairs extending the invitation. I had such a blast meeting other Joe enthusiasts, sharing stories, and seeing what exactly goes on at a Joe convention.

I still can't believe that I got to talk with Larry Hama, Zack Hoffman, and Mark Bellemo! I can only imagine who will be future guests. I love the con set, in fact I've read the comic no less than 15 times. Good stuff!

Hanging out in the hotel bar talking Joes and what not with NFC, Xhairs, James, Nova, and Mike was a great way to end the day. I can't wait to go next year!

Mark Bellomo of G.I. Joe guide fame. It was great talking to him,  he is a genuine fan and a national treasure for his knowledge of G.I. Joe. He's also a great speaker, his panel was engrossing.

Larry Hama, "Godfather of G.I. Joe", he insisted on taking this photo with one of his fans. Nice shirt dude!

I found out from the man himself that the original Arashikage ninja (Marvel issue #26) were dressed in black and not blue like the comic had them colored. I knew comics used blue for black but I wasn't sure if this was the case here.

I also found out that he's working on another silent issue with Snake-Eyes. Snakes will only use the weapons and gear that he has in the issue. He's weaponless at the end. Can't wait!

NFC with his idol Zach Hoffman, the voice of Zartan. His panel was awesome. Great speaker, funny stories, and he sounded just like Zartan (he does a great Cobra Commander too).

David Willis - from Shortpacked. He didn't want his photo taken I guess.

Freebie table, this thing was full at the end of the day. I would have taken some of it home if I could have fit it all on the plane.[/align:344b4pyc]

I wish I had taken more photos, but alas I was having too much fun. There was a ton of stuff that I didn't get on film. Good times.

It's been a pleasure to be an attendee of the last 7 Can Joe Meets/Cons, and a helper/volunteer/staff member too!  Having an insider's view towards the process that the team goes through from brainstorming to ideas to execution, well, it is really amazing how such a small group of dedicated Joe fans manage to pull off such a monumental undertaking year after year.  And it's especially gratifying to see it grow into the EVENT that it has become.  As the "media liason", this year, it was awesome to see how many media outlets were interested in profiling our "little meet that could", and as the "unofficial photographer", I saw so many reasons why the Can Joe Con is a MUST EXPERIENCE EVENT for Joe Fans everywhere!  As always, kudos to Mike, Denise, Ryan, Pete, Jason, Ed and the other volunteers that have made this an event for Joe Fans everywhere, and particularly in Canada, to be proud of!!!
