Customs / Joesightings.com Year of the Tiger Custom and Art Contest
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:27:43 PM »

Joesightings.com’s Year of the Tiger Halloween Custom and Art Contest:

"Ninja Cat-Fight!"

Since 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, this contest will be a custom or art contest to redesign the Razor Trooper--hybrid Cobra ninjas spliced with tiger DNA, or redesign Tiger Claw---Snake Eyes' second ninja apprentice. Neither figure depicted any tiger-like aesthetics or traits aside from codenames or filecard descriptions, so the contest will be for customizers or artists to redesign either of these two (or both) from the ground up with more of a "tiger" trait to them. Race, gender, and genetics are all open to translation. Either character can be male or female, both or neither can be genetically engineered with tiger DNA, and just because they’re ninjas, doesn’t mean they can’t be updated with modern or Very Near Future technology. The point of this contest is not to duplicate the originals, but to redesign the Razor Trooper or Tiger Claw so they each live up to their animal namesake and function---either through coloration of their uniforms, weapon designs, genetic engineering, tattooing, or even cybernetics that bring about feline traits. Anything goes as long as it brings about a more tiger-like aesthetic!

But why a Halloween contest? As we already know, 2010 is the Year of the Tiger in Asian cultures. But there’s a second tiger aspect: the beginning of Fall is heralded in by the god of Autumn, “the White Tiger of the West”. Furthermore, Halloween is fast approaching us, and what holiday better exemplifies Autumn, than Halloween? Not to mention that’s the perfect time for tiger-people hybrids and ninjas, so that’s the three-layered theme of this contest.

Rules:

1.) All transactions and communications will be through Personal Messages, so to be eligible, all applicants must have a valid membership on Joesightings.com regardless of their memberships on other sites. (Joesightings staff members are not eligible to enter this contest.)  This contest is open to all artists, not just G.I. Joe fans.

2.) The contest will begin at midnight (CST) on Friday October 1, 2010. Submissions will be accepted until midnight (CST) on Sunday October 31, 2010. All submissions after the end date will not be accepted.  As a courtesy and for a head count, we do ask that if you’re planning on entering the contest, simply let us know early on and prior to submission of your project.

3.) Judging will be conducted by Joesightings staff, and will begin November 1, 2010 and conclude on November 14, 2010. Winners will be posted on Monday November 15, 2010.

4.) Photos of the custom figures or scanned pics of art work must be clean and in focus, and large enough to depict relevant detail. Pics out of focus or too dark may be rejected and new images requested. Custom figures should be 3 3/4" - 4 1/2" tall, resemble G.I. Joe styled figures, and need to be made from the majority of Hasbro parts.  Art pieces should be scanned in high resolution, and a preferred size for the design would be something that would fit comfortably on a 8.5" x 11" page if held on a hard copy.  All entries will be posted for public viewing while the judging is taking place.

5.) Entries will be graded on three categories: A.) The success to portray a tiger-like aspect to the character/s, B.) The uniqueness of vision, and originality on the redesign, and C.) The paint applications on a figure, or the use or color or shading on the art.

6.) Artists or customizers can choose to do both characters if they want to showcase the “versus” aspect of the contest, but that will still count as one art piece, and grading will be based on the totality of the work presented.

Prize Support:

The Grand Prize winner will receive the following from the Pursuit of Cobra line: HISS Tank, Wolfhound, Steel Marauder Mech Suit, Deviant Mech Suit, and a Jungle-Viper.

Second Place will receive a complete set of Wave 2 Pursuit of Cobra single figures.

Third Place will receive the Toys R Us exclusive Pursuit of Cobra Spirit Iron-Knife, Quick Kick, and a Jungle-Viper.

If you have any questions, please contact a Joesightings.com staff member.

This is my Pursuit of Cobra Urban Environment H.I.S.S. Tank and Cobra H.I.S.S. Driver. I personally didn't care for the color of the factory colored H.I.S.S. Tank so I decided to give the more urban design. This tank looks very cool in person! The H.I.S.S. tank includes the removable cannon w/ missile and fire blast, the removable gatling gun w/ ammo belt, and the H.I.S.S. Driver w/ pistol, vest, and backpack.

This tank was completely repainted from top to bottom and I added various washes and drybrushed metallic, rust, and sand details are over the tank. The treads were dyed black before I painted them. I even added detailing to the cockpit like the silver rivets in the canopy, the leather seat cushions, and the buttons on
the consoles. This thing is a beauty!

This is one of my Ebay auctions this week so please bid all you like! ;)

This will be extremely pic heavy.

So, here goes the PICS!!!

Alright, now post your comments!!!

This auction is for a Rise Of Cobra styled Salvo in reactive impact armor. Salvo includes his rocket launcher, his pistol, and his helmet.
Salvo is a character that I've wanted to update since the 25th Anniversary figures came out but once I saw the Reactive Impact Armor Heavy Duty from the movie line I knew I had to make a Salvo with that body.

Head: DTC Salvo
Body: RIA Heavy Duty
Launcher: Desert Ambush Duke

This figure is up on Ebay now.

When I first saw the design for IDW's Cobra Commander I started sculpting a head to resemble it. While not a 100% copy of IDW's design, I like they way he turned out.

This figure is also on Ebay this week.

Once I did my Leatherneck custom in MARPAT I decided that I had to make an updated Sgt. Slaughter and Gung Ho in MARPAT as well. So, here's Sarge!
