Title: Found a Hall.... and it's SWEET!
Post by: BHMike on October 23, 2006, 02:39:24 PM
OK....
I found a hall for next years Canadian Joe Meet.
It's near the Airport, near some Hotels, near access to the HWY, and near TONS of shopping and food. Seriously, It's the perfect location.

Actually, I found TWO of them.
One is about the same size as the small room from last year - it's on the mountain, and includes the use of a 42" Plasma TV.
Cost - $200.00 for the day.

The second one is half of a banquet hall, has no TV, but is a little bigger than the large hall from the bowling alley.
Cost - $300.00 for the day.

Do we have any idea on how many people would attend next year?
The date WILL be April 14th, 2007 - in Hamilton Ontario.

I have the old location on hold for now, and would MUCH rather use this new one.  Everyone will agree - this is the perfect place for the 5th annual Joe Meet.

I'd like to get this place secured within a week, so just a quick post if you 'think' you're going to attend. This also weighs on how many exclusive figures get made, and WHAT it is as well.

I will attend.  Greek Orthodox Easter is a week before the meet.  So I am all good.

I'll be there, provided I'm not sent across the world again.

Dude, a plasma for the wrestling. How can we go wrong? I'd even watch snake eyes breakdance if it was on a 42" plasma.

I know that it'll be coming down in size for you mike, but I'm still locked into a 32" screen.

You can count me in.
The two options both sound good. It really does depend on how many people we can bring to the event before we can decide.

I'm in. I like the room with the TV. Joe wrestling has become a part of this event so if we can get away from the smaller screens then that's a plus.

I'll be there with Tina, who's thinking about setting up a table for baked goods. I'm hearing rumours from a lot of Americans that they'll try to make it, but not many that have booked their flight. Have you started a thread on Joecustoms about who would be coming for sure?

I know I was pushing for a bigger room, but I like the sound of the smaller room on the mountain.

Remember to bring the brownies. Mmmm. Brownies.

Americans may be coming up, and also possibly Austrailians... But that said - we're talking about a difference of maybe 10 people if all the americans that have suggested that they are coming are coming. Most of the people will be local to the province/country.

If we want to have a CCG table, a free table (with a bit of space around it to prevent casualties), a customs table, and a prize table, including a number of vendors, how many tables are we looking at? With 5 vendors, (mike, tina and deadshot/condor knight are 3, maybe steve and ed are interested?) we're up to 9 tables + room for seats around the wrestling screen.

Is that going to fit into the small room? I want the plasma, but I'm thinking real estate here.

Also, who would be interested in a custom speed painting contest? If there is interest, and Mike gives the go ahead I'll start putting materials together.

A custom speed painting contest would be awesome! After seeing it from the Montreal pics, this would be great and a lot of fun to have at the Can Joe Meet.

Speed Painting? Raptor, it's that kind of out of the box thinking that makes these meets the place to be.

I have material I can donate.

I MIGHT be able to attend, depending on various factors, including a ride, the exclusive figure and how the meet matches up with my Japanese class schedule.

How much time do contestants get in speed painting? Maybe I should bring a blow dryer...

Tell you what guys. If someone wants to take care of the speed painting, I have no problem with that. ALL I ask is that you supply a plastic tarp or something to put under the table when you do it (and something for ON the table as well.

I don't want to be responsible for paint on the floor and such.

Figure out who will run it, and I'll work it into the 'Events Listing' for the day as we get closer.

Alosng with the wrestling matches, and a few things I'm considering.... like Best impersonation of a Joe / Cobra character. Don't worry.... you'll win stuff if you make an ass of yourself. ;-)

I'm also considering a "Mini-Custom" contest for the meet.
People would be allowed to make ONE custom figure and bring it to the meet. It has to be one that no one has seen of yours before, and one that isn't posted online anywhere (yet). I'd have ballots set up at each one, so people could 'rate' it out of 10. Depending on how many people enter, we'd have a first, second, and third prize.

I already know what first prize would be... but it's a secret.

I haven't even given this any more thought than that post up there. ;-)

It my not happen at all - but I DO want something like this to take place.
I'm REALLY leaning towards the bigger hall.

I heard there were more Joe dealers than Star Wars dealers at that 'Star Wars Expo' thing..... maybe Hall or someone knows who they are?
If I can get more dealers that are JOE specific, then the big hall it is - and the 'games' can get planned.

To be honest, now that it's in my head. I would think vehicles would have to be ruled out. Some are just TOO big, and they'd take up to much space.
Figures are small and take up ALOT less space.

However, if I don't get enough dealers for it - I could always rent out tables for $5.00 or so for people to display their customs, dios, etc.

Well  I know two  of the  Joe sellers  that were at the show.  ( not counting   Steve, Hal  and Bryce) .   lmk  how much  the tables are  and  I'll see if  I can get you  some more dealers.

Sides I"m probably gonna have to get a table  this year with the extra stuff I have now.

I nominate Scramble for the job since he did such a great job for the Montreal Joe Meet's speed painting contest.

So does that mean we only bring one custom or just one for the contest? It's not like I'd want a table to set up or anything like that, just the usual amount which is around 12 or so figures.

Also, any chance we could do a chapter of Joe Canuck at the meet?
Title: Found a Hall.... and it's SWEET!
Post by: BHMike on October 25, 2006, 09:36:14 AM
Jay - I'm sure Scramble thanks you for your vote, but it's between Raps and Scramble - they can discuss it in a PM who takes care of it. I don't want the board to 'pick' who does it. It's not a contest! ;-)

As for the customs, there will be a section for customs to be displayed, and a different section for the 'contest'. The figure you put in the 'contest' section should be made specifically for the Joe Meet...... and not seen by people before. That would be how I'd like to see it done... but  there's no real way for me to enforce it.

I'm willing to do any job that still allows me the freedom to catch up with people I haven't seen in a while, get in my Smackdown vs Raw chops, and clean the freebies table with as much as I can fit in my pouch.

So for this custom contest, will there be parameters for what the custom should be? A set theme?
Title: Found a Hall.... and it's SWEET!
Post by: morgardee on October 25, 2006, 01:30:48 PM
Well I've been working on a seriously cool custom since the summer (ran into problems finding the correct colour and he's in limbo right now) that nobody has seen anywhere, so I'll save it for then.

I'll work out details.

My thoughts at this time for the meet are this:

The figure should be made in time for the meet - so you can bring him in and display him.

You can set him up however you want.

1. Loose
2. MOC
3. Loose w/ filecard.

That's all I got for now. ;-)

I'd love to make the meet next year but I'm doubting that I'll be able to. The lease is up at the end of March and given that the meet's in April the timing just will not work out since we're not staying here once the lease is up. Maybe something will change, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

This is great Mike. Something else to participate in.  :D

Hmm. Looks like I have to pull out the paint and parts again. If I start now,  maybe I'll get something done in time for the meet.

Anyone want to tell some other Joe Dealers about the meet then?

The less dealers, the higher admission - and I was hoping to have a lower admission this time. ;-)

speaking of dealers, is the BHT travelling roadshow gonna set up a table?  I know you were putting some of the store stock in storage, but figured you might break it out and actually work the meet since we don't have the luxury of crossing the street anymore...
Title: Found a Hall.... and it's SWEET!
Post by: BHMike on November 13, 2006, 11:24:38 PM
I haven't decided yet. I made an error when I loaded up the Storage Locker..... I stuck all the Joe Stuff in the back - that's ALOT of stuff for me to sell in a few months... so I'm not sure.

BUT, I will have stuff posted on ebay before the meet - I'll be promoting the meet and this site in each of my auctions.

Anyone else that sells on ebay is MORE than welcome to promote the Joe meet and the JoeCanuck.com site if they want in their auctions as well. :shifty:
