Post by: Stealth Viper on September 15, 2008, 09:32:35 PM
Our first "spotlight" issue! This means that all articles are related to the same theme. This issue's theme is ARMY BUILDING.

Coming in at a whopping 19 pages long, the issue includes reviews, anti-building, customizations and more! Also this month is the fantastic conclusion of our featured Dio-Story, by the very talented General Hawk!  You'll also find the answers to the latest Q&A questions sent to Hasbro Canada, as chosen by Joecanuck.com forum members!

Check it out here!

And thanks as always for making the Hasbro Q&A possible.

Downloaded it last night, reading it today.  This might be a long post as I'll make comments as I go along!

- "I do it with the Borg, because it's cheap."  Giggity giggity goo! ;D Seriously, though, I never thought of Army Building outside of Joes and Star Wars.  A Borg Army sounds too cool - especially if you Army-Build Red Shirts!  Army-Building: Resistance is Futile!
- I'll be honest.  Once I read "Ice Cream Soldier," I got up and walked away from my computer... but only to put some books away and come right back since I was interested in what Ed had to say.
- Custom Armies: a very interesting idea!  I don't have the time/patience/materials/money for that kind of project, but I really respect anyone who does.
- Hasbro sure knows how to avoid answering questions...
- Think of the children all you want.  Get between me and my Vipers and there'll be a problem.
- Anti-Building's a fun idea and those dios are great, but I don't think I could get into that.
- Man, Joe Canuck sure gets around!
- Those photos are epic.  If I'm ever in BC, I'll have to visit that store!
- I have to disagree with the Viper review.  He's not perfect, but he's pretty damn great!  Wrists and ankles are a problem, but I honestly wouldn't have noticed the proportion issue had you not brought it up...
- Hee hee, the Morality Lesson comic is pretty funny.
- Justin's diocomic is amazing.  Taking the figures outside looks great, and the Photoshop Motion Blur filter really helps the action look believable.

Wow.  This is the biggest issue yet, and it's all about a similar theme, too!  You guys really know how to make a great newsletter.

If you want another fig comic to fill the gap until Justin's new stuff, albeit one that's less action-packed and and more humour-oriented, I'd be glad to lend mine for a while.

After reading VL's article and re-looking at the figure, I am really less than pleased about the height of the Viper's boots. It's like there's a centimeter of additional boot there that doesn't need to be, and throws the legs out of proportion.

Has anyone tried to fix the wrists with a hot water dip?

:chicken:

These just keep getting better!  You probably need to dial back the awesomeness just a tad, though - otherwise you'll have a hell of a time topping yourself every month ;)

Overall another solid issue. The idea of a theme issue is great, I hope you do more of them. Not sure of one I would recommend, but it's a cool idea and this one worked well.

Based on the content it's obvious a lot of work goes into producing these. I don't read every article thoroughly, as certain sections don't particularly interest me (generally not into customizing or dio-stories for example, though in the future I may try customizing and the articles provide a nice reference), but there's enough there for me to enjoy the issue.

Only one bit of constructive criticism. A pet peave of mine is people using "of" instead of the " 've " contraction. For example from the first page "You may not of noticed..." should be "You may not've noticed...". I mention it since it's occurred a couple times now, and little things like that detract from the over all great job. Perhaps an additional proof-reader or editor would help? I'd offer my not-so-qualified services if I wasn't too busy with work and school. :) Of course it's a pet peave of mine, so it stands out to me. Maybe not as much to others. Anyways, please take this as constructive, not as a slag. As I said the issues are pretty darn good overall!

I look forward to the next one.

Haha, Darth, I have to admit that I'm a bit of a grammar nazi, myself.  Though, not always a vocal one.

And I totally agree:  the themes are DEFINITELY a great idea!  Lots of potential, too - the "Joe" issue, the "Cobra" issue, the sub-Forces Issue, the up-up and away flying toys issue...

I look forward to the rest

Hehe, me being a referred to as a grammar nazi is kinda funny. Hopefully my comments are taken as they're meant; as friendly criticism. :)

Yeah, sub forces could be fun for themes (Tiger Force or Python Patrol, even if I'm not a fan of repaints), or elemental themes like water, arctic, air, desert etc.
