Off Topic / Canadian dollar and your impact
« on: January 16, 2016, 12:18:16 PM »
It shouldn't be news to most but the Canadian dollar continues to drop as our economy is tied to the oil sands.  Sigh.

So has your online buying from the States slowed down?  It has for me.  I don't even bother with ebay anymore, mostly due to the paypal currency conversion and that stupid global shipping offered by some sellers.  So it's kind of a good thing that GI JOE has slowed down.

I don't think I will be having vacation in Florida in 2016 either, not with those exchange rates.

I finally decided to take a look at the members that have signed up here in the past.  For some reason, plenty of spammers have signed up lately.  They will be gone just like a baseball at the end of Edwin Encarnacion's bat.

Off Topic / Calling out somebody...
« on: August 27, 2012, 12:33:37 PM »
How long do you guys wait to call out someone publicly for failing to live up their end of a bargain?

In my case, all signs are pointing in getting screwed out of 300 bucks.  This is based on two weeks of piss poor communication (not returning my latest two PMs).  I don't know what to make of this except that I have lost all patience.   The other party is a board member.

Just a heads up.  Credit card fraud has been reported by various Transformer and GI JOE collectors after buying GIJCC and Botcon memberships.

http://www.joecustoms.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=32284
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-news-rumors/202849-possible-credit-card-fraud.html
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-general-discussion/543525-fandom-card-issues-2-2012-a.html

Fun Publications/Master Collector or whatever the hell they are called have failed to deal with the situation. Instead, they sent out some BS basically stating that it's OUR FAULT and we are stupid for not protecting our credit card info.

Quote
We have been receiving feedback that there has been a higher than usual number of fraud complaints posted on online Transformers forums.

While we have nothing to suggest that there was an issue with the TCC and Fun Publications, we look into every concern that is sent to us. All of your transactions are in a secure socket with the strongest encryption available to any site on the web. If you have a specific concern about any transaction with us, please use the “contact us” link located at the bottom of the TCC page and provide us with as much information as possible including:

1. The EXACT name of merchant as it is written on your statement.
2. Amount and date of suspect charge.
3. Bank your card is drawn on and if it is a debit or credit card.
4. Device and browser (and version) you used for your last payment with us before you saw a fraudulent charge (ie, android phone, computer, iphone, browser and version).
6. Were you on a public computer?
7. Were you on a public wi‐fi network?
8. If you were at home or work, what Internet provider did you use?
9. On your last transaction with us, did you receive any kind of error message (card declined, 404 error, programming type error)? If you did receive an error, how many times did you resubmit your information?

It is very difficult to track credit card fraud. With your help, we can see if there are any parallels between those reporting an issue.

In order to better protect yourself, here are some guidelines:

Never log into a secure site from a public computer, public wi‐fi, or through android/windows phones. Only use your mobile device on a
mobile app for transactions, never a browser. Turn off your bluetooth and wi‐fi to prevent people from hacking your credit card information from your phone/computer.

If you have a card that has an rfid chip, make sure your card is shielded when not in use.

Always make sure you are using a secure socket (https://) for any login that requires a password or a monetary transaction.

Never email your credit card information to anyone.

As should be common practice, on a regular basis, be sure to check your statements and make note of any suspicious activity on your card. If you see an unauthorized charge, turn it in to your bank or card company, the charge will be reversed, they will issue a new card for you and the security system in place will have done its job.

Please also take the time to read the attached article and research credit card security. We are very aware that security concerns have risen exponentially in the last couple years and we are doing our part to stay ahead of the curve.

Are these guys for real?  It's not like I just got a credit card the other day and discovered the internet.

Sorry.  When you have several members have their credit card info stolen through your crappy payment processing system, it's not your members fault.

Off Topic / Inspector Gadget - Dr. Claw's face revealed?
« on: April 10, 2011, 11:01:47 PM »
So I am watching Inspector Gadget as I am bored with the regular crap that fills the 10:30 PM time slot.  It got me wondering; was Dr. Claw's face was ever revealed, ever?  After a quick google search, it turns out that an action figure was released in 2007.

But your kidding me.

http://www.progressiveboink.com/archive/drclaw.html

Just like the author of the article, I was also expecting somebody to be in a mask like Destro. I assume others did as well.

So now I know...I should have never had looked this up lol.

Off Topic / Display Cases - Any suggestions?
« on: February 09, 2011, 03:06:49 PM »
I am looking at finally displaying my collection.  The key things I want display is the entire run of the 1982 to 1994 figures and the foreign figures I have accumulated over the years.  I will worry about vehicles later.  The problem is finding display cases are a pain in the ass (the ones at Ikea that Mike and Charles use are no longer made).  But then I found this place which is just north of Markham.

Anything that you go with?  Mind you, I am not looking at drilling holes in the wall to install a display case.

Off Topic / Target buying Zellers leasehold interests
« on: January 13, 2011, 09:51:56 AM »
Looks like Zellers will become Woolco to Wal-Mart in a few years.

MINNEAPOLIS — Zellers stores across Canada will disappear in a couple of years, as major U.S. retailer Target moves in.

Target (NYSE:TGT) is spending $1.83 billion to buy up the leasehold interests in 220 Zellers stores from the storied Hudson's Bay Company.

Though Target says the Zellers brand won't disappear immediately, the deal is the first step in a plan to open between 100 to 150 Target stores by 2013.

The U.S. retailer, which helped coin the phrase "discount chic," has long been exploring opportunities north of the border.

However it hit several roadblocks that run the gamut from unattractive real estate locations for potential stores to the economic slowdown that reined in consumer spending.

Target says that under the agreement Zellers will continue to lease the locations from Target and run them as Zellers stores "for a period of time."

Edit:  In typical CTV fashion, they have changed the article to include:

After years of anticipation Canadian consumers can soon set their sights on a new shopping destination, as U.S. discount retailer Target has announced plans to set up its stores north of the border.

Target Corporation said Thursday that it is paying the Hudson's Bay Company $1.825 billion to acquire the leasehold interests in 220 Zellers locations across Canada.

Target says the deal doesn't mean an immediate end to the Zellers brand, but is rather the first step in opening between 100 and 150 of its own stores here by 2014.

Although the money is expected to change hands in May and September of this year, "Zellers Inc. will sublease these sites from Target and continue to operate them under the Zellers banner for a period of time," the company said in a statement announcing the deal Thursday.

According to Target's chairman and CEO, his company's first move outside the U.S. will be a boon for Canadian consumers interested in a "superior shopping experience."

"We are very excited to bring our broad assortment of unique, high-quality merchandise at exceptional values and our convenient shopping environment to Canadian guests coast-to-coast," Gregg Steinhafel said in a press release promising "a more robust Target presence in Canada over time."

Commenting on the deal in a statement Thursday, Hudson's Bay Company Governor Richard Baker said, "This transaction provides attractive long term value and will allow us to invest substantial capital into our department store and specialty store businesses to continue to drive growth."

Target expects to spend approximately $1 billion to remodel and reopen the existing Zellers stores under its own brand. The company also says it will have hired up to 20,000 people once its stores are operational.

The Minneapolis-based company's more than 1,700 stores across the U.S. have long been a favourite of shoppers on the hunt for what the retailer has dubbed "discount-chic".

While speculation has been rife the company was considering a move north of the border for some time, Target only confirmed its international expansion plans in June of last year.

It had been stymied, however, by the hunt for suitable locations, and most recently, the economic slowdown.

Baker, whose U.S.-based real estate development company NRDC Equity Partners LLC enjoys strong ties with many of the biggest retailers south of the border, paid $1.1 billion to acquire the Hudson's Bay Company in 2008.
