Wave 4, new Oktober Guards and convention set news
« on: January 25, 2006, 12:39:55 AM »

So much for lack of GI JOE news.  From the latest MC newsletter

Wave 4 - Single packs
Airtight
Lt. Falcon
Munitia
Cobra Night Viper
Cobra Officer
Outback

Comic Packs
Issue 101: Misha, Gorky, and Dragonosky
Issue 44: Lady Jaye, 2 gas masked Cobra troopers

The Convention set:
Cobra’s Most Wanted: Mercenaries!

Quote
The Cobra organization enjoys taking credit for their devious activities; however, even Cobra Commander sometimes needs to accomplish his plans in secrecy and let others do his dirty work. Cobra Commander has deemed it time to strike deep into the heart of the Joe team and eliminate one of its most beloved leaders. To ensure he has the best mercenaries for this job, he has turned this contract into a twisted competition by paying only the team or individual who fulfills the objective –remove the specified Joe leader permanently.

Answering Cobra Commander’s call are two teams and one individual who
will vie for the prize payout. The first team is Major Bludd and his Skull Squad known for their unorthodox tactics in getting the job done. The second team is Overlord and his Coil Troopers who wield deadly force, crushing every adversary while leaving no witnesses behind. And the individual…a mysterious loner from South America. What a wrestling match it will be as these three groups use their unique talents to strike deep into the heart of the Joe team.*

Not sure about this convention set.  I will need to see pictures before deciding whether this set is a home run or not.

Wave 4:  At least Hasbro has Outback's name.  Then freaking use the V1 mold as I know they have it.

Comic packs.  Finally, a new Lady Jaye and more Oktober Guards.

GO STEELERS GO

I just printed out a copy of the news letter. Some please tell me, are the coils from the devils due comic? I'm pretty sure they were but I stopped reading that comic around issue 17 and have since chosen to forget everything from the DD run.

Also, sounds like a clue at the bottom of the description "What a wrestling match it will be as these three  groups use their unique talents to strike deep into the heart of the Joe team". So the sole Joe in this set is who Duke? Hawk? Sgt. Slaughter/Smasher?

There has to be a wrestling reference in there somewhere. Is the third person for Cobra the wrestling reference? Big Boa? I just read the file card for him and doesn't mention South America. Balrog from Street fighter? Again, not from South America. Anyone have a guess?

I'm really digging the mercenary angle, it sounds really interesting. I'm surprised and a little relieved that Firefly is not in the set, since he's been done in a past set.
It would be an awesome surprise if Hasbro/MC had the rights to use Sgt Slaughter in the set.
As for wave 4, I can't wait to see pics of them.

I am pleased as punch about the comic packs. I have been waiting for the OG to be completed. Nice to see that it finally is.

Mind you if they rehash that crap mold that they used for the con, I'll be pissed. They need to use the baracade mold (we know they have it) with a new sulpted head. I can live with the idea of a repainted Stormavik as Gorky, and a repainted Wild Bill for Misha, but they better not cheap out on the man with the flamethrower.

I'll also pick up the lady jaye pack if they get rid of the damned hat.

Cobra Troopers with gas masks? That's just fun. Not to mention a new Lady Jaye who maybe, may finally be, a hatless, cartoon-accurate version.

That convention set sounds really clean. Only two names confirmed and they already sound cool. My take on popular leader is Flint. He's recently had a new head sculpt and we've yet to get him in Sunbow colours.

I'm willing to bet Major Bludd will be Chinesse Major Bludd. They have all the components from Funskool, and it's developped quite a lore among collectors. Skulls? Could it be Range Viper heads on Major Bludd v2 bodies? Straight Range Viper repaints? You figure Range Viper heads have to fit in somehow. And I'd love it if Hasbro had Overlord's mold. I've been interested in that fig for a while but haven't tracked it down.

You can tell I'm excited about this set: I'm actually speculating.
