math fail.

Maybe in the UK they use a different system  :P but to do the maths right you should do 2011 minus 1982 = 29 + 1 (to include the 1982 year) = 30 years of GI Joes!

But I buy the idea of 1983 was a repeat 1982 year... (but in my mind, 2011 is still the 30th anniversary...).

From the last Q and A on generaljoes.com:

"Q1 – Recently the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has revealed to great joy that they will be releasing a 25th Anniversary homage Dial Tone figure as part of their 2011 Membership incentive program.  Judging by the widely positive fan response, it’s obvious that this is still a source of potential sales from a retail perspective.  What is Hasbro’s final stance on whether or not we will see 25th Anniversary homage figures within the next 12 months?  Is the Collectors’ Club destined to be our only outlet for this, or might we see something at retail?

A1 – The 25th anniversary was almost four years ago. We have already started looking forward to the 30th anniversary! While we won’t be introducing any more 25th anniversary figures, we will be tapping the great history of G.I. Joe to bring you 30th anniversary figs. The plans that we have, while not quite final, will most likely please the collectors of the 25th and Pursuit of Cobra lines. "

I'm just hoping that in 2012 (or 2011), Hasbro decides to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Gi joe the Sunbow movie and finally make some cool Cobra-La characters. I had a dream yesterday about it...and I can tell you that the figures in my dream sure looked awesome :cobra:-la-la-la-la-la !

ARAH came out in 1982.

I got a calculator in front of me.

1982 + 30 = 2012.

Yeah, I took it as good news!  Sounds to me like maybe they'll do an officially named "30th anniversary" series that would hopefully include some of the 80's line updates I'd still like to see (Zarana?).

I'm with ya, man.  Pythona, Royal Guards, and Golobulous.  I've always considered it outside of the real joe story, and didn't much like it as a kid, but hey, it's still 80's.

ARAH came out in 1982.

I got a calculator in front of me.

1982 + 30 = 2012.

Ok, I will explain this for the last time... if you want to include the first year (1982) you have to add one (+1). As for example, you want to know how many fingers you have on one hand, put a number on each of your fingers (obviously from 1 to 5). So, with your maths, to know how many fingers you have you will do the last one minus the first one (5 - 1) = 4 fingers  :o.

If you are born January 1, 2010 you may celebrate your 1 year birthday January 1, 2011. But, you already started your second year. If you want to celebrate your first year of existence, you should celebrate December 31, 2010 (meaning 2010 - 2010 + 1 = 1). If you wait until 2011, it will be 2011 - 2010 = 1 + 1 =2 because you already started your second year of existence.

So, if you want to know how many years GI Joe exists, it's the same thing: 2011 - 1982 + 1 = 30 years!

I understand what you are trying to say but most places do not celebrate an anniversary like that, including us in Canada:

http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/14karat-g ... prod740005

I married on Aug 17th, 2002 and I just celebrated my 8th wedding anniversary this summer. Come Aug 17th, 2012 it will be my 10th anniversary.

Your approach of minus one year does not work for the simple reason that you are assuming that Jan 1, 2011 you have started your second year. Nobody would call a 12 month, 1 minuet old baby a two year old. Nobody. It's a one year old baby and remains that until Jan 1, 2012.

Put another way, this past year I turned 15 years at my place of employment (March 28th to be exact). I even brought in cup cakes to mark the event. However, I won't get my 15 year anniversary gift until this years year end party which won't happen until around March 2011.

BTW, anyone want to buy a real nice set of gold cufflinks with diamonds early next year.  :shifty:

apparently in Asia, you're consider a one year old when you're born.

which is just crazy.

and how was '83 a repeat of '82? sure, they re-released the '82 figures with the new elbow articulation, but there was plenty of new characters and vehicles out, i mean, that's when Destro, Major Bludd, Ace, Cover Girl, Wild Bill, Doc and Torpedo all debuted!
