collcectors convention figures on ebay
« on: March 31, 2009, 09:04:43 PM »

http://cgi.ebay.com/GI-JOE-SILVER-GLOD- ... 1|294%3A50

It says unofficial gi joe figures but with previous years fellows from the factory in China sneak a few figures out to sell on ebay and the fact they have collectors club box set foam inserts is a big clue.  It seems hasbro has a big problem with this just check out ws_toys on ebay.

Do you really think it will be this year sets? I mean 24 Storm shadows... half gold, half silver.

Strange... That's a way to cut cost... I mean when you got 1 silver and 1 gold... do you really need the other 22? Storm Shadow is not supposed to be an army builder fig...

100% pure bootleg from China.

Also where the Convention boxes come from.

This is NOT the set and these are NOT legit.

Also, these look like they're the old O-ring style build...  (whatever that era is called, now)

I find it hard to believe that Hasbro would abandon the new 25th style build.  (or whatever this era's is called, now)

Master Collector (not Hasbro) is still using the "O" ring styled figures. Look at this years free 3 3/4 figure for the MC members. It's Undertow in IG colours. From what I understand, the MC group will be staying with the "O" ring figures, which is a good thing as they are now the only place to get "O" ring styled figures.

Anybody look at today's date yet?
It just seems to me that someone at the factory spent some time with a chroming machine.

I'm not sure this is a joke because it is an eBay auction ending April 5th.

How are you so sure? I mean I have few bootleg. They are smaller (hard to tell for the SS from the pic), they have smaller foot and back hole (also hard to tell) and they are backward rivets (this is not the case for them).

OK, these are made in China, like the legit figs made for Hasbro or Master Collection. So, why are you so sure those are fake? I mean, I hope you are right. So far, these hints are right:

"Imagine something old and something new,
Something foreign and nothing blue."

"I see my image reflected back,
And who is that person not wearing black?"

"I am you, and you are me,
That's why we have our own army."

"We battle in foreign lands but NOT in the shadows.
You've seen us before, but now we bend more."

Judging by previous years how Collectors club convention stuff shows up on ebay before the club even announces the figures, my bet is these may be part of the exclusive souvenir offering not the actual set itself.

By definition, a bootleg means:
  • To produce, distribute, or sell without permission or illegally
  • A product that is illicitly produced, distributed, or sold.

Plus, I know of the people that were responsible for making these, but (and this is going to sound so lame, and such a cliche), I can't really talk about it due to the trust another person has put in me by telling me.

My advice is to not buy any on ebay. They have 1000 of each made and they'll eventually get cheaper as more and more people rush to buy them right now. Think back and some of you may remember something like this being done before (non-Joe).

But they are cool looking, I'll give them that!

I'll admit I'm tempted to get a set knowing now that they aren't stolen figures from another company.  But I'll wait and see.
