Off Topic / Ebay questions...
« on: February 03, 2012, 06:18:20 AM »
Hi guys,

I recently won a couple of auctions from an Ebay seller. I was able to bid on the items at the last seconds from the end and managed to win them for a good deal.

After I sent a request total message to the seller, he replies back that there were bidders who were not able to bid towards the end which is why many of his items ended for not much.

I sent him a friendly message to let him know that out of the 3 auctions that I won, there were 2 that were important to me and if we could conclude the transaction, I would be grateful as I depended on these items to complete a collection that I was going to review on youtube (which is true by the way).

This morning I just received a strange message from him, not only apologizing, but that he will be re-listing the items because Ebay had system crashes resulting in a loss for him. Ebay actually told him to cancel any item ending after a certain time, in this case all my winnings. Is that feasible? It sounds rather fishy.

And do system crashes happen nowadays on Ebay? I'm under the impression that the seller is regretting the outcome of his auctions, but I don't want to be rash.

I really wanted those figures but now I feel like the deal was too good to last. It seems that I wasted my time and I should probably look elsewhere. I was looking at expressing my genuine disappointment to the seller and/or leaving negative feedback which I didn't have to do since a very very long time ago,  but I still don't know if that will change anything...

I'm quite disappointed but this will pass I tell myself.

For Sale or Trade / Modern Star Wars carded & loose figure lot for sale
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:57:54 AM »
I'm looking into funding a purchase. My goal is to reach 150CDN asap so I'm willing to settle for a good price if I can sell fast. My only conditions: I need to receive the payment no later than by the end of saturday january 28th. Paypal payment preferred but checks will do.

First we have a lot of 36 Star Wars action figures. They're all in either mint or near mint shape. Only the 5 Revenge of the Sith carded figures have suffered heavy wear to their package (they are good openers). The other carded figures have no serious issues. All 36 figures are complete (weapon wise).

Star Wars vintage style figures

Star Wars Legends figures

Star Wars Revenge of the Sith figures

Star Wars loose figures

Woule like to get 100CDN for this lot, negotiable. I'm willing to break the lot if a substantial quantity of figures are taken and/or if the offer is fair.

Thank for looking and may the Schwartz be with you-u-u-u-u-u.....! And with me too, I need it  :))

Customs / CJC Snake Armor custom with official CJC stickers applied
« on: December 09, 2011, 01:02:44 AM »
I recently took advantage of the Cyber Monday specials at BHT and got two extra CJC Snake Armour sticker sheets.

For fun, I decided to emulate a CJC Snake armor by painting a ROC Serpent armor to see what it would look like. And I applied the stickers. The result is not an award winning paintjob, but I think it's pretty close to my original Snake armour exclusive.

I used Humbrol flat enamel paint and it dried pretty fast. I don't know what there is is about the canadian cobra emblem but the red stickers pop really nicely on the blue. Don't want to sound like i'm trying to sell them, but I do recommend them to anyone who wants to make a Canjoecon snake armor, they're really beautiful IMO.

Oh, and the figure on that last pic is just there to pose in the armor.... ::)

Off Topic / How to ruin a good 80's show... with language dubbing!
« on: October 20, 2011, 06:27:28 PM »
Okay, this is something that I found on Youtube that reminded me of my favorite 80's shows that got poorly dubbed... in french! Click on the video to see or hear for yourself how bad they can completely mess up a good show. I mean, what were the voice actors thinking???

I'm sure some of you will say that you won't understand a word if the video is in french, but trust me when I say this: you don't need to to realize how bad of a job they did on this one.

Transformers G1 fans, watch at your own risk LOL:

Off Topic / The Real Ghostbusters original Promo
« on: October 07, 2011, 01:15:19 PM »
This is something that I never really paid attention to before and discovered only recently on Youtube: A promo of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon from Time Life.

Originally this was supposed to be a 2 hour Pilot from according to what I read on some forums. But it never got aired for some reason, perhaps due to several issues that Columbia Pictures encountered during approval or during the post-production stage. The pilot never got aired, but scenes from it did find their way into the opening of the show, and as flashback scenes in one of the later episodes. And you'll notice many differences with the character designs of the series that we got to know.

Enjoy!

Off Topic / New SCI-FI movie coming out in 2012!
« on: October 06, 2011, 01:56:06 PM »
There is a new movie called PROMETHEUS that's set to come out in theaters on 2012. There is a lot of speculation and rumors running around that this will be a prequel to one of Ridley Scott's most beloved films. And most importantly the rumor that this movie will provide some background insight to elements in past films, and become the opening chapter to a broader and more epic story.

No trailer is available, but I found these screenshots that were shown at this year's San Diego Comic Con. It isn't fake. What you're about to see are screenshots that the production allowed to be viewed before attendees of the convention. Enjoy!

SPOILER: "in space, no one can hear you scream"

Off Topic / Remembering September 11
« on: September 11, 2011, 01:58:51 PM »
I can remember it as if it was yesterday.

I was returning from South America on the 9th. I had to take 3 flights. On the first flight, there was a lot of turbulance, heavy rainstorm and thunder, the carry-ons starting to fall on us, it was really as bad an experience as in your typical disaster movies and I can honestly say that this was the scariest flight I have ever been on. On the second flight going to Miami, our captain had to wait to get permission to land. After 15 minutes of waiting, the captain finally announced to us that if in 15 min. we still didn't get the airport's permission, he was going to make an emergency landing because he didn't want to risk being too low on fuel. A lot of passengers started to wonder, and some to panick: is this plane going to crash? Well me and the guy sitting next to me were more concerned about who would survive the plane crash and face either the shark infested waters on one side, or the crocodile infested swamps on the other.   And in the third flight (leaving sept. 10th), there was a computer malfunction that prevented us from departing as scheduled. There was even an aviation engineer, who was a passenger onboard at the time, who detected perhaps the source of the problem. He informed to flight attendant if he could have a word with the captain. I was like "NO, not another problem hahaha!" Anyway the plane left almost an hour and half later, but the fact remains that it was still Sept. 10th and we left.

I got home really early on Sept. the 11th. Went straight to bed, until my sister pulled me out of my dream telling me that a plane had just crashed into one of two towers. All they kept showing was the same fire footage. I was still wanting to sleep and it all really seemed like a dream to me, so I went back to bed in complete disbelief. My sister screamed a second time, and that's when reality really woke me up. I ran downstairs like crazy to see what had just happened. My sister was insisting that I watch as there was apparently another plane closing in to the crash site, and that's when I saw the second plane crash live...

Customs / My first ever modern Era custom
« on: August 28, 2011, 05:34:56 PM »
Well,

I was never really happy with the ROC Thunder that we got when the movie came out. The panther tank to me was a so-so revamp of the Armadillo, but for some reason I didn't dig the light grey plastic pieces on the tan shell.

SO for a start, I took a 25th Armadillo and swaped the pieces with the Panther's. The result is a green Armadillo with grey highlights. Makes it different, and I now have a nice desert fashion Armadillo I can look at with more ease.

ROC Thunder must've been my biggest disappointment. Hasbro did an okay job recycling a Resolute Duke figure which was probably a good choice back then, and repainting it Thunder style. But again, the light grey touches personally bothered me. So I painted them green or black to make them resemble a bit more the 1984 Thunder's color scheme.

The helmet was also another disappointment. So I add some plastic to it, from a 1982 Breaker headset and two 1984 Mutt's guns. Of course, I used only accessory pack weapons which are in abundance in my parts bin. Had to chop off some plastic with a sharp cutter and crazy glue them. Had also to make some little holes on the sides of the vizor in order to receive the headset.

Here's the result.

And the headset is fully functional, just like the original Thunder.

Off Topic / 1979 Alien movie unproduced figures
« on: July 05, 2011, 01:26:42 PM »
Since I got back recently into collecting the Kenner line of Aliens versus Predator action figures, I became a little curious to find out more about the toys that are out there.

To my surprise, I found this auction on Ebay that offers two custom carded specimens of unproduced figures of Ripley and the infamous Alien (intended for 1979's release of "Alien", but cancelled). I'm looking forward to owning these and will try to review them if I can get loose specimens or carded duplicates to open.

While searching for more information on the unproduced figures, I landed on this website (see at the end) and got more answers than what I was looking for. Per instance, the Predator aliens from the Predator movies were added into the mix: Kenner released in 1993 a Predator vs Alien action figure 2-pack that came with a comic book that explains the new battle, thus expanding the ongoing battle between the Space Marines against the Aliens. As well, did you know that Kenner had plans to bring Dutch, Blaine and Billy Sole, from the movie Predator, into the Aliens toyline? That almost happened, but due to poor sales....it never did.

Quebec / The Quebec After-Canjoecon
« on: June 27, 2011, 12:55:50 AM »
How was your weekend?

Good I hope. Mine was so-so. You see, last weekend was the ultimate CanJoeCon experience. And now that it's over and I'll have to wait a whole other year until the next one, well I am suffering big time Con Withdrawal.

Alright, let's get down to the real topic of discussion. Would anyone be in to go have a few drinks, enjoy some delicious nachos (one of the best all-dressed in Montreal, approved by the LJ himself ) and perhaps dinner?

There's this cool café-pub "Café Ciné-Express" located in Downtown Montreal which I've been to a couple of times. Service is great, waitresses are friendly and the atmosphere quite lively. Food is good, and prices are affordable. They have a big soft seating lounge area that is really neat for a medium to large group like us. Not to forget that all this is at 5 minutes walk from the Guy-Concordia Metro station (St-Matthieu exit).

Here's a link for anyone who wants to know about the place.

http://http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=fr&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=939&bih=558&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=cin%C3%A9+caf%C3%A9+montr%C3%A9al+qc&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=cin%C3%A9+caf%C3%A9&hnear=0x4cc91a541c64b70d:0x654e3138211fefef,Montr%C3%A9al,+QC&ei=oAUITtqXHebs0gGgx5n_Cg&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&ved=0CAQQtgM&iwloc=cids:14622318670437261643

I propose two dates. Thursday July 7th at 6PM. Or Saturday July 9th at Noon. Personnally I prefer Saturday because some people would be less rushing to go home after work during the week especially if they live outside of Montreal.

To make sure that everyone gets an invitation, I'll send a PM to those who introduced themselves on the community thread started by Martin Montreal. Since I can't guess who are all the Canuckleheads that are in the area, I'll trust my better judgement that someone will tell them about this thread, or that they will find it on their own until then.

Hope we can meet!

I bought a comic pack #8 today because I'm expecting a Cobra-La story inside + it's Larry Hama who wrote it. But I have to admit that I'm a bit hesitating in opening this pack. For those who read it: Did you like the comic book? What did you like about it? What didn't you like about it? Does it respect the Sunbow movie continuity or not?

I don't really mind if you spoil the story for me, if it can make more interested in reading it. Thanks for your help!
