Title: Thinking
Post by: AlleyViper on February 22, 2007, 06:27:38 PM
I'm in the planning stages of coming out to the meet. Where is a good cheap place to stay? Do you guys do anything the night before, should I come out for the night before or the day of the meet? Do you guys do anything in the day or so after the meet?

I would really like to come out. But I haven't bought anything GI Joe since I can't remember. My interest in getting any Joe stuff is next to nothing. The latest pictures from Toyfair make me really sad. Sigma Six stuff is garbage in my opinion. The 25th Anniversary figures can go down the toilet right after S6, in my opinion.

But you ENJOY Joe right? Who cares if you buy anything! ;-)

You'll have a blast Adam! Come on! You'll get to see me again!  :shifty:

There's a couple of cheap hotels in the area - my place is booked up - shoulda made up your mind back in September when I was out there! ;-)

But, there's three hotels 'near' the Meet. Two really close to it...
I'll get the names for you - unless someone beats me to it?

Email Shane - convince him to join you - then split on a room.

I'd suggest flying in the night before.... leave when you want - the night of the meet - the next day... whatever. We'll get you to and from the Airport.

As long as Westjet doesn't change anything, you 'could' come in the morning of the Meet, there's a flight that leaves Calgary at 7am your time - you'd get here around 12noon... the Meet will of already started, but I'm sure someone will pick you up - it IS just down the street anyway. ;-)

If you leave the night before, you'll get here either around 1pm or 5pm - depending which flight you take - no one's gonna pick you up at midnight with those other two options there for you. ;-)

Yes, I still enjoy GI Joe. I would enjoy it much more if Hasbro would get their shit together, or had gotten their shit together in the last few years so that finding anything new was next to impossible.

I will keep you guys posted. Anyone able to find out those hotels Mike is talking about?

http://www.airportinnhamilton.com/ (http://www.airportinnhamilton.com/)

and

http://marriott.com/hotels/travel/yhmcy ... -hamilton/ (http://marriott.com/hotels/travel/yhmcy-courtyard-hamilton/)

Both have food nearby - AND will pick you up from teh Airport and take you back if need be. You may want to double check that first.
They're both within walking distance from where the Meet is going to be held.
Marriott fucked me around on using their hall - so on that basis alone I'd suggest the other one.

There is another one right near the Airport, but it's no where near ANYTHING.

If you need to be picked up - I could most likely help... I am only 10 minutes away....- assuming Raptor is picking up MotoViper in Toronto.

The Aiport Inn does offer pick up and drop off to the airport.

Plus the Airport Inn has a Hooter's right next door.   :shifty:

So who needs the Marriott anyways?

I dunno. I find Hooter's food is too greasy.

Yeah, I don't eat at Hooters.

They may be great in the U.S. - but they're one step up from dog food here in Canada.

I'm thinkin' Crabby Joes would be good. It's the 5th Joe Meet - the first one was at Crabby Joes.

If we're gonna play with G.I. Joes at the table at Crabby Joe's again, can we at least roll them around in Armadillos?

Yeah, I'm not in to going back to Hooters either.

Crabby Joes, Kelsy's Philthy McNasties, Jack Astors, Montanas.... any of those work for me.

Are there any Canadian restaurants around the meet? Actually, does Canada have any kind of national dishes? Other than timbits & that ham you guys try passing off as bacon of course...

Canada doesn't really have a Canadian dish..... well... I guess poutine would be the closest..... Other than that, I'd say Moose-burgers. but you don't see that around here much. - That's more a WAY up north dish.

That's a joke, right?

This is Canada. We're serious about our beer.

Hmm... I've had buffalo before, I'd be willing to try moose. If you get the chance, buffalo's damn good. Poutine qualifies, the Wiki has a whole article on it. Though cheesy gravy fries aren't quite as exotic as the usual fare I try to eat on trips. Then sgain, last time I tried local cuisine I found out I was allergic to it.  :(

Canadian food is all about carbohydrates, oil and sugar.

Pretty much every truly canadian dish combines all of these, with or without meat and cheese. You'll be fine.

Well as much as I would like to go to the Joe meet, my procrastinating has made things too expensive, plus I just bought a new car which has all but killed any extra money's I might have for this thing. Have fun guys.

Apparently in you order a "Canadian Pizza" in England it comes with corn. Yep, I said corn. Who the hell thought of that I have no idea.

What is Canada famous for? Back bacon, maple syrup and beer. Best all served together with a side of poutine.
