While most of their translated name are good, I can't explain some:
Sci-Fi --> D-F, for our English reader, Science-Fiction (Sci-Fi) are the same words in French. So, I have no idea what D-F stand for...
Lifeline --> Attrape (in English Catch)? WTF? Secouriste would have been better...
Mainframe --> Châssis, That person just took the dictionary (Frame --> Structure --> Châssis) and had no clue (at all) about computers. I mean call him Ordinateur (Computer), Serveur (Server), Réseau (Network), Central, etc. and it would have been way better than Châssis... ???
Air tight --> "Le pompier". Pompier mean Fireman... WTF? And why, "Le" before? His name wasn't "The" Air Tight... ::)
Snake Eyes --> Zorro???? Ok, both (Zorro and Snake Eyes) are dressed in Black... but still sound stupid...
The best one are:
Dial-Tone --> Déclic, I mean, it's smart!!
Roadblock --> Obstructeur... is better than "Bloqueur de rue" which would have been plain stupid... "Barreur" could have been great too...
-
These names were used in France, not here..
-
I remember Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow.
Storm Shadow sorta made sense but how the funkytown do you get Zorro from Snake-Eyes?
-
i.e.
-Quick Kick was called ''Savate'' over here, not Savata
-Roadblock was Barrage
-Dial-Tone was Manoeuvre
-Sci-Fi was S.-F.
..and so on

I think it was a matter of syllables. Snake-Eyes is two syllables I believe, while its english to french translation "Oeil de Serpent" would've accounted for 4 syllables.
I'm with you about the mystery behind this whole re-naming business...beats the hell out of me.
