wave 6 in at gijoehq.com
« on: November 26, 2004, 08:46:37 AM »

Anyone else here shop at GIJoehq.com? I use them every once in a while and while I find the vintage stuff too expensive, the pre order for the new stuff has decent deals. This morining I got an email from them saying wave 6 was in. While I'm hoping that wave shows up here, I just love my deadnoks way to much to pass. A case came to $85.00 U.S. but that includes shipping. That works out to $100.87 a case Canadian or $8.41 a pack. That beats Walmart's prices. Now the question is how much will I end up paying for customs.

15% on the $100 plus a $5 handling fee.

So expect to be nailed for $20.

With Curtis, none.  He knows the 411 with customs and Canada. I have bought several items of him in the past.  And this is one of the reasons why I am comfortable in going back to him as he does the customs request.  Also, in three cases, my packages were lost.  He made the effort to replace them at no cost, something you don't expect to here from online stores.  Thus the reason why I hold him in high regards in the online GI JOE business.

I would have to disagree that he always knows the 411.  I bought 2 cases from him.  He shipped them UPS and the items were marked at $60 each, I got hit with about $20 worth of duty and taxes.

I do get all my new waves from him.  It just the last time he used UPS instead of USPS to save himself some shipping and I got nailed with duties

Do you request he declare the lowest value? I always ask everyone that when I order from the U.S. or even when I trade.

All my packages have been sent via USPS from GIJOEHQ.  So Mike is probably correct in his rat ass theory.

Gift and 5 bucks is what I request (ebay, message boards and some online stores).  People that don't do it, don't get my future business.  With smalljoes, I tend order 20-30 bucks as a max.

Only problem with the $5 rule is if the box is very big.  So if you got 4 NACs in a box, customs will probably open it up and say it worth more than $5

.......and you wouldn't want to take that chance?
I'd rather have a 50/50 chance of avoiding the fees instead of a 100% chance of paying them. :-)

I agree with Mike on this as well.  If it doesn't work, you pay the fee.  You really have nothing to lose unless they mark the value high.  For big boxes, I tend to ask for 10 or 15 bucks.  And I have gotten away with this.  As long as the items are out of package you will be fine as they are toys.  Electronics, it won't work.
