Vector Prime
« on: July 21, 2005, 12:05:01 PM »

The other day, I bought a Transformer on a whim for the first time ever. I've bought a few Transformers in my time. Snow Cat and Kicker for the GI Joe connection. And I bought 20th anniversary Prime because that thing was so damn cool (right now he's opening the canopy of a Crimson HISS with one hand and getting ready to pound the terrified gunner with the other). And I've considered buying Alternators from time to time, but never felt the need. Today I saw Vector Prime, and I needed to buy him.

My first reaction was "C'mon Hasbro. You can't toss the name Prime around like it's Cybertronian for 'Mister'. If you're a Prime, you're important". But then I read his backstory. The original Prime, just trying to help, accidently aids the Decepticons because back in his day, they werent' the Autobots enemies. I thought it was brilliant. He was also a good looking robot, and I liked his colours, untraditional though they may be.

I was honestly torn about picking it up. Afterall, I'm not a Transfan, no illwill towards them. And what would I do with him? He doesn't fit my battle scene or Terrordrome set-up. But I was so buzzed about him, about finding a toy in a toy isle that excited me, that I bought him. And I'm so satisfied that now I did. He's standing on my DVD player, over looking the room and looking damn cool doing it.

Actually, the name "Vector Prime" comes from Japan, where the leaders use the title of "Convoy" rather than "Prime". So it was Vector Prime hanging out with Galaxy Convoy rather than Vector Prime and Optimus Prime.
You gotta blame Hasbro for being too dumb not to change his name.  :shifty:

They were also too stupid to release the smaller, more affordable and more to-scale-with-everyone-else Starscream.

You know, I'm starting to think, only us Transfans/GIJoe fans have the right to say "Stupid Hasbro", considering how many screw-ups we get from collecting both lines.

got any pics?

I'm not much into TF, but I have 2 Unicrons serving as bookends in my display shelf, and I have a Silverstreak Alternator guarding my wireless internet hub against hackers. I kept my original soundwave and bumblebee. ;-)

I gave away my snowcat, and I'm going to give away my freakin useless Omega Supreme whenever my wife's kid brother comes back into town...

Ooh. A TF thread.

I can't wait for Noisemaze/Sideways to come out in Sept.

I wish that Starscream was available in deluxe size and not Mega (Japan) or Supreme.

Took a while, but I have a few pics of Vector, as requested.

Here he is in his highly posible robot mode. The chest emblem is a key that unlocks slashing sounds when his arm moves. If I had batteries in him, which I don't. The arm isn't any less articulated to accomadate the feature, which is great.

The next few shots are his vehicle mode, with an emphasis on the really cool slot where his sword is incorporated.

Pics are a bit bigger than I expected. Sorry about that.

Man, that Prime looks impressive.  I am going to have to find the cartoon on YTV to find out what this robot does.

I dig the robot, but no so much the "X wing" transformation. He does deserve a place of honor, maybe over the fridge?
