Title: PoC Easter Eggs
Post by: olyeller01 on August 31, 2010, 01:43:07 PM
As noted by several other board members in my PoC Spirit review thread and confirmed by Hasbro, the PoC line has several "Easter Eggs" in it.  Here's what we know for sure so far, and feel free to post new Easter Eggs you know of.  And by "Easter Egg" I mean stuff not shown in the instructions/packaging.

The upcoming HISS Scout can be towed by the PoC HISS.

Spirit's bow can be strung with the elastic ties that hold figures in their packages, and the removable arrow both has a working nock and the arrowhead fits in 25th style backpack holes so Spirit can "shoot" figures with his arrow.

Snow Job's gear can be arranged to make a lean-to shelter.

Cobra Commander's staff fits onto the PoC HISS.

Supposedly different parts combined from various figures will produce a Predator figure.

Firefly Head (Mask version)

POC SE v2 Armor for body.

Beachhead lower arms?
The rest is probably from the final wave.

The staff is supposed to fit into the small holes on either side of the canopy just below where the large Cobra insignia is supposed to go.

Yup which is why I love this line, the whole shout out to the Predator movie is wicked.  So many of the character designs are based on it, I guess that in itself is an Easter Egg, the hidden Predator figure just tops off the awesomeness.  Im gonna have to get doubles to be able to build it!

This isn't really a PoC Easter Egg, but take off Beach Head's vest, swap jungle Duke's head onto him, and tell me that wouldn't make a great Solid Snake figure with the addition of some gray paint.

As for the Predator homages, if I could get an Ah-nold...er, I mean, Dutch figure, and a figure of that pencil pushing son-of-bitch Dillon, I'd be really happy.  Bench Press could probably be made into a pretty decent Jesse Ventura knock-off...

... and yes, Duke is Solid Snake's twin brother..  ;D

Like I said, it would take some gray paint & you'd have to paint the hair brown...and a leg swap with, say, Firefly probably wouldn't hurt either.  Plus there's just a bit of an issue with Duke's head fitting loosely, but that's easily solved.

I'm gonna have to make me a Solid Snake custom, apparently ;D

Recondo's hat could be used for Blaine.  Heavy Duty's weapons for the mini-gun.

Funny you would say that.
Recondo's hat and a few other parts of him were originally designed for a Blaine figure much like the Predator parts and wave 1 Duke's Dutch parts.  Blaines mini gun is going to show up with the 2011 Destro connected to a steady cam contraption originally designed for a Colonial Marine figure's chain gun.  2011 Duke will be sporting a Colonial Marine design complete with a Pulse Rifle from Aliens.  Snake Eyes wave 2's armor vest was actually designed for a Colonial Marine figure and SE's chest mold is actually the Predator body.   The Predator and Aliens figures were original concepts from Kenner that were never produced.
This was touched on at the US Collectors Convention by the Hasbro design team panel and another GI Joe board's Hasbro Q & A

This is so exciting!!! PoC figures are not only great looking but we can make Solid Snake figure and Predator Figures!  PoC is hard enough now to find when this info hit mainstream it may be even harder to get them.

Its a great way for hasbro to sell multiple of the non troop builders too since people will buy 2 just to make a new figure.

Lets go one step further and use the Predator 2 movie for our City Strike set.  What would you use for Danny Glover and Gary Busey's figure?  This way we cover 2 of the 4 zones of PoC.  Not sure if the Predator would excel in the Arctic or Desert climates?

cool, which one was first?  I recall Warren Ellis said he made Dial-Tone a female because the name "amused him", and that that character had too many lines not to be named.  So I dont think it was a direct result of the IDW comic.

It may have been mentioned but the lower legs of the wave 2 snake eyes must be the predator legs.  I'm wondering what those weird flippers are all about with beach head.  They look so weird it seems they've got to be for something in particular, but don't match the predator/aliens ideas.

There are various methods out there for "torso cracking" 25th style figures.  Me, I never had much success with it.  I'd usually just swap legs and heads.

Yeah, ya gotta put the figure in a sock to keep parts from flying across the room and keep the vise teeth from damaging the shoulders.  Most people use the vise but mine was a small one and didn't wanna crack them.

What's up with that long barrel with the jungle viper?  It fits on the end of the rifle but just looks out of place.  I question now with everything if there's a second use.

I dont torso crack, the only time you need to torso crack is if you want to change the upper arms, the lower arms and head can be simply pulled off, and the legs are removed by the screws.  Hopefully the hidden figures dont require an upper arm swap.

Also, the lower arms from Beachhead are Predator arms. Look close and you can see the predator skin pattern. I like the easter egg and all, but I don't like the predator skin coloring - it doesn't work with the camo on the rest of the figure.

But boo to them for making part of an unofficial build a figure a short packed item.

It's pretty obvious, but it's not printed on the packaging or anything.  Plug one end of the clear hose in the back of Arctic Destro's gun and the other into the backpack.  You can stick the gun under water, press the button on the backpack & fill it with water.  Pull the gun out of the water and press the button on the backpack & Destro has a GI Joe sized Super Soaker!

Since I was lucky enought to find Wave 2 at WM today, I was dieing to build the Predator with the parts that were available. But I'm having difficult time trying to remove the lower arms from the Wave 2 SE.  Is there a trick to move the lower arms, because it looks like I am going to break the arm by the joint with the force that I'm using.  Do I use pliers? Boil and pop should loosen the plastic enough to pull the lower arm out from the upper.

yup, as Arrow said boil and pop.  It doesnt even have to be boiling water, just hot water to soften up the plastic.  The plastic is pretty elastic, once you pop it once you get use to it, I felt the same way my first time.

Over the shoulder gun: Cobra Commander
Head: Firefly
Torso and Upper Arms: Wave 2 Snake Eyes
Forearms: Beachhead
Hands: ?
Waist: ?
Upper Legs: ?
Lower Legs: ?
Feet: ?
Dreadlocks: Shadow Tracker

I've never pulled a figure like this apart, so I listed as many parts as I could think of. I'm not sure if hands are seperate pieces, but I listed them anyways. So if anyone wants to edit this list with proper body part listings and corresponding character, that would be great. Would be handy to have a proper checklist in one post.

The feet I will be using the "flippers" that came with Beachhead.  At the moment I will use Wave 2 SE for the whole body until we hear from Hasbro.  The question was put forth in the Q and A, so I hope they will shed some light.  I also like the idea of using Firefly's lower arms with the Body Armour attachments that the figure comes with.

One more idea... Since the torso is the "Kung-Fu" SE, I do not think you can attach any other waist to it so it has to be the correct part.  If you look at the "Kung-Fu" SS that is coming out in Wave 3 it is the same figure with a different head and arms.

its easier if you warm the plastic, just run it under hot water under a tap no need to boil water.  Then just pull the arm off

TOTAL FAIL for me.  I had it under tap for awhile (1 minute-ish) and the pastic did feel soft and plyable so I yanked and yanked until the elbow snapped... :'(  How long did you have it under the tap?  I guess I will have to actually boil or use the hair dryer on the fig.

dang that sucks, did you pull it with the arm joint straight? or bent? when you heat it up, you should "feel" the rubber softening, like the arms will feel elastic (edit: opps ya just reread that it did get soft for you).   Ive pulled many lower arms with just hot tap water and Ive never had a break :( sorry for any misinformation dude.  Maybe the POC pegs arent as robust as the 25th?

It also may depend how hot your water supply is. I know my hot water tank is set lower than most, so I don't burn myself in the shower. Thusly the water is not hot enough to boil and pop. Gotta use the kettle or microwave for that.

The arem was straight but it may have been weak from just pulling on it?  And I used an RoC fig to test.  I will try again today.

Anther quick question after you crack the torso, do you Krazy Glue to put it back together?  Or do you use epoxy?

I like the hair dryer idea. I had a COMPLETELY warped winshield for my WHALE.
After 20 years I put the hair dryer to it, bent it back and then once it cooled - perfect.
That is the epitomy of a band-aid fix. Easy, cheap and works perfectly.

Not an Easter Egg, but a dandy use for an item most folks might not find a use for:

The barb wire roll that comes with Dusty--stick it on the brush-guard ( the fold up frame on the front ) on the DTC Night Ops Humvee.

That or it might work on the front of the Dred Knoks Thunder Machine.
Just tuck the ends around the frame, no need to intertwine the whole thing.

Yeah, the water here would take forever to heat up, when I used the boil and pop I heated it up in the microwave.  But the hairdryer is way faster and easier, I've removed a good number of lower arms, hands, and feet with the hair dryer.  In fact, the only problems I've had is with the SRO Ace.  One of his hands tore when I pulled without heating, and later with another sro ace, the same thing happened on the same hand when I boiled.  The hardest elbow joint I removed was roc cover girl, but it did come out okay.  I haven't tried to remove poc parts yet.

On the predator recipe, when I looked closely at the details of the predator, it seems the parts don't match as well as they should.  But the lower legs of the tornado kick snake eyes are the ones for the predator I think.

I have a feeling we will need to paint the Predator figure to be happy with it.

Yeah, I kinda expect that given the easter egg nature of this BaP. But even if we have to paint it, I hope we'll at least get all the pieces. Then again, I'm not buying extras right now, so I'll have to track down the pieces after the fact if we do get them all. I don't really want to buy extras if we're not getting the whole thing. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I want to buy extras unless they're on clearance. That will be one expensive predator! But I get the sense we won't see this line on clearance!

I just got my Recondo from my local Action Figure specialty store.  I think when you take his vest off, he really looks like Jesse Ventura in the credits of Predator when he is wearing the MTV t shirt and the harness.  When extra's come available I am going to use him for my Blaine custom.

The Mini gun that came with the movie version of Heavy Duty works really well for "Old Painless".

Marauder John has a cut-down version of his mingun (with backpack) that is a very good duplication of "Old Painless."  In fact, the description on the item even says "similar length to the weapon used in Predator."  I have one, and it's a freaking awesome setup.  See here: http://www.marauderinc.com/servlet/Detail?no=315 (http://http://www.marauderinc.com/servlet/Detail?no=315)

I thought one of the upcoming poc was supposed to have the mini gun?  Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I was thinking about the aliens steady gun.

The upcoming 2011 Destro has the mini gun.  But if you can't wait from the pic the Marauders gun will do the trick!

I did a quick Blaine from Recondo using a Mini Gun from the V vs V Roadblock and ROC HD's Backpack.
The other dude is Odd Ball(see customs section of explanation).

thats cool, I did the exact same thing for the new vamp.  It also looks decent next to the Sandbag Bunker for those exclusives from the states.

I'm close so far, Just about to rip the hiar from the Shadow tracker.  Not sure how it will fit, I may have to cut the Firfly mask to make it fit.

in my opinion, I'm also not sure the snake eyes torso is the right one neither, it has to much armor/ clothing, if you think back to the predator movies, the predator was bare chest, was it not?

ya its a hard choice for the chest.  Hell, Serpentors torso might work.

Depends which movie and which one  Their basic item was the mesh but they had all types of armor that they wore.  Predator 2 designs had full upper chest armor.

Beachheads Torso Armor is similar to the predators, but the ribbed shirt underneath doesnt match too well. Though oddly enough there seems to be predator fleshtone on his arms.  But now that the next few waves have been announced, maybe one of those has a torso that can be used, Croc master perhaps.  Also SS arm blades look to be the predators blades, so if you passed on that crappy figure you might have to get it for that lol.

I just took one of my Wolverine hands with the blades and stuck it on the Beachhead lower arms.

Check out ODIN from the new Thor line. I think that that might be a good base body for the Predator. Add the arms from Beachhead and go.

Posting in an epic thread.  I guess I'm going to have to hit up some specialty shops and stock up on figures.
Maybe I'll make some customs of the Nostromo crew while I'm at it.  You know, in case I need some junction hatches sealed or some cats recovered.
