General Joe Talk / Vintage vehicles value vs. 25th ann. vehicles
« on: December 17, 2008, 09:57:08 PM »
Hey guys,

I didn't read a topic on this before, but I want to hear your comment about that. The 25th ann. figs are different from the vintage. You may like them or not (I'm still on the vintage figs) but they have a different size and mold. BUT, the 25th ann. vehicles are pretty much the same as the vintage one, with the characteristics of been:
  • improved,
  • not expensive,
  • complete,
  • in box,
  • with filecard,
  • brand new (no wear, no stress mark, etc.),
  • not broken,
  • not rusty,
  • not dusty from storage.

Why would you pay $20 for a vintage RAM, $40 for a vintage VAMP, $80 for a vintage Rattler when you can get them half price for a very very very similar version?

I sold pretty much all my vehicles 5 years ago... I still have a Skyhawk, APC, ASP, Flak and some SNAKEs. Now, with the new 25th ann. line, I bought a lot of vehicles for more than half price I sold my vintage.

Do you think the price of vintage vehicles will (or already) collapse? Are you scared to see the next new vehicules Hasbro will introduce on the market? I know, collecting toys in more than an acquisition cost. But when you paid 1 year ago a Stinger Jeep $60, and you now know you will be able to get a brand new one very soon for what... $19.99? it is sometime frustrating...

What do you think?

Like other already say, it is a easy pass for me. But, I'm really impressed how much Target is in the GI Joe line with all those exclusive vehicles. I mean, what Wallmart, TRU, Sears (and all Canadian stores) are waiting???

I can take care of the Snow Serpent's missile.  Other than a slight colour variation, the missiles are just about the same size.  Unfortunately the slot on the 25th anniversary missile is smaller than the '85 one and can't be attached to the '85 backpack.  The darker missile in the pictures is the original release.

Thanks a lot! That was the kind of information I was looking for.

Now I have to find about the EELS mouthpiece...

I looked at the two links you posted, to YouTube. The first one is accurate the second is just something some one made up from scenes of other movies, you can tell by the 2 cut ins from hell boy and league of extraordinary gentlemen.
Yeah, I know. I shoud have say: This should have been the real casting...

When we compare the vintage and the 25th ann. line: Some accessories are really similar. Can anyone picture and/or tell if the 25th accessory will replace the vintage one on:
  • Snow Serpent: the missile and stand
  • EELs: mouthpiece

Just listed a bunch of vintage vehicles complete and incomplete.

Just a reminder that we ship free within Canada on orders over $113.00

Did you increase it, because your site still says: Free shipping for orders over $105.00?

One cheap way of obtaining 1985 EELS air noses; get the blue accessory pack versions and used a black sharpie.   I did this for 7 of the blue ones I found over time.

Thanks, even the blue accessory pack version is hard to find. I never saw one for sale... (I'm looking for 2... )

And about my custom Falcon's antenna, here is a pic (very easy and low cost to do...):

This is not a secret at all... some vintage Joe parts and accessories are really hard to find. I'm thinking about:
  • 1983 APC seat belts
  • 1985 EELS mouthpiece
  • 1985 Moray Hydrofoil spolight lens
  • 1985 Snow Serpent missile stand
  • 1985 Dusty bipod
  • 1985 Heavy-Metal mic
  • 1987 Falcon antenna
  • etc.

Even on eBay, those parts and accessories don't show up very often... So, what do you do to remplace them? Have you find a good remplacement part that works pretty good like the original?

For example, I replaced the accessories below by:
  • 1985 EELS air nose --> I used a 1986 Wet-Suit black mouthpiece (but I still prefer the original EELS part...)
  • 1985 Dusty bipod --> I used Marauder John FAMAS Assault Rifle (my best $1 investment!)
  • 1985 Heavy-Metal mic --> one of my friend used Marauder John Helmet mic
  • 1987 Falcon antenna --> I used a black paper clip cut in half (it looks really great!)

But I'm still looking for replacement tips for others. Any ideas?

Thanks to all,

Martin

Not only TRU, but also HTS. Initially they were selling each vehicle pack $14.99. Now it is $15.99.
