the faintest glimmer of the HMCS Flagg on the horizon
« on: August 14, 2007, 02:46:26 PM »

Hey all, you may remember my claims that I was going to build a Flagg from scratch more than a year ago.

Well, a year has passed and nothing much has happened, except that all the preliminary work is done and im about ready to start building.
I just thought I might show you some proof of the fruits of my labour :)

Below are items that will go inside the Flagg:

The first are two scaled boats, the Cutty Sark and the Bounty, which are about the perfect size for the Joes.  I figure the smaller of the two will go in the Admiral's quarters, and the Sark will have a place in the library in the ship.

oh and that table will go perfectly in the admiral's quarters, great for dio shooting.

These remind me of Adama in Battlestar Galactica, who can be seen whittling away on a model boat in his free time.
I picked these up at a Liquidation Center for about $2 each

The next is all the smaller nick nacks that'll fill the ship's interior.  file folders, scaled models, posters, old war gear (that shield will go up in the Admiral's quarters) etc.

The following is the little mock-up I made using paper and the measurements for the actual ship done to scale.  The paper has been bent because its kinda old now, rest assured the real thing won't bend and warp like this...hopefully.

And finally the guts of this monster, the wood thats waiting to be cut and sanded for the interior.  So far I think this is enough for all whole crew deck, and a little left over for the tower structure.

I think I'll be able to start building within the next few months, as I start up my new career as a truck driver.  If I can get a week off in a month, I'll be a happy camper and be working on this big sucker.

when its done it should look something like this:

that is so awesome.

I totally know how a large project like this can be delayed, right now i am almost 2 months behind were i'd love to be with my creation of cobra mountain. I didn't realize how being in an apt and having to 'find reasonable time' to be able to use power tools would be such a pain in the butt.

Also i am making the cobra mountain to be modular so i can 'change it' to be able to become a city scape, or any other setting i want to convert it too.

Good luck, and maybe at the joe convention (if we are lucky) we can have cobra mountain & the flag at war :D
