Must-Read Joe Comics!
« on: July 25, 2010, 11:44:00 AM »

I wasn't really into comic books back in the day when GI Joe was in its remarkable run, though I did pick up a few books here and there.  Anyway, I have been loving the trade paperbacks of the original run that IDW has been releasing every few months.

Last week I ordered and received the first compilation of GI Joe: Special Missions.  Man, I didn't know what I was missing out on!  Even if you only have a passing interest in comics, I strongly advise you to read Special Missions.  If you ARE a Joe comics fan, you'll get even more out of it!  That's the best $14 I've spent in quite a while!

i'm getting Classic #8 and SM #1 when i get paid.

hope they do something about reprinting the Yearbook stories since one contains the story of Scarlett and Stormy rescuing Snakes from the Consulate and another has the story of how the Joes capture the Mamba Falcon's recon team use to get on to Cobra Island before the CI Civil War kicks off...

I'm still a fan of Issue 50 of the Marvel run when every Joe on the roster was in on an assualt of  Springfield.  That, and the "Silent Issue" (21) and Snake Eye's origin in (26-27) were among my faves.  Mr. Hama was and is a master storyteller...I just picked up his new issue 156, continuing where the Marvel run left off, and it did not disappoint!

GIJoe 6 and 7 were one of my all time faves.  Truly tragic there was a never a proper subset of the original October Guard released back in the day.

I agree 100%.  The comic 3 packs with the guard were great though, but I would have loved them as a kid, with venom and kwinn also.

Special Missions is very, very good.  I love that series.  #2 and #13 are my favourites.  Herb Trimpe signed Special Missions #1 and the 4 Order of Battle issues for me.  I'll ask him if he'd be willing to sign my Special Missions #2, #12 and ARAH #1 next time I see him at the Montreal Comic-Con. ;D

You wanna know what a MUST READ comic is?

If you're a fan of the mythos of the JoeCanuck-verse, and you've read up on the Wiki here, then the Convention Comic is without a doubt a MUST READ comic. Actually... I suggest for anyone picking up a con set, that you read it before you read the "paperwork" included with the set.  :shifty:

Yes they do! We'll also have a TON more for sale at the convention only as well! So you may want to buy some extras to "ebay" when you get home. Last years is currently selling between $40-$50

My personnal favorite from the Marvel era was #34! It was an incredible sky fight between Wild Weasel and Ace..

That's a good one too.  The whole storyline where Stalker, Snow Job and Quick Kick go to the gulag brings me back as does issue 47 - introing Beach Head and Hawk's new clothes look.
