The outskirts of Toronto is slowly becoming gang-central. Inside the city is much nicer and cozier. (emphasis on cozy since you'll be living in a tiny place with high rent)

As an aside, I have a friend who lives right at the Jane/Finch intersection and he says he never has any trouble. Just don't walk around wearing a lot of red or blue. :)
