Title: GI Joe Complete Series on DVD
Post by: Storm.Shadow on October 08, 2009, 05:14:59 PM
Amazon.ca has the complete series up for pre-order. (http://http://www.amazon.ca/G-I-Joe-Real-American-Hero/dp/B002KJ7OE4/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1255036396&sr=1-15)

125.99$ and Free shipping.  That seems like a very fair price to me.  I almost regret buying it from Shout! earlier.

whew!

I held off when it first came out - I assumed it would come out cheaper later on.... seems I was right! :-)

me too. I also just could not bear the thought of forking over cash to the mailman or delivery guy to cover the customs on top of the Shout price. I think I can manage this price much better.

I was thinking about getting this and the Transformer one when they were first announced.. but since then I've decided that I would perfer to pick up the seasons 1 by 1, as I like the packaging / artwork on the cases a lot better.

As well there really isn't that much of a savings by getting them all at the same time...

You know about 3 year ago I would have been excited. Now that I've seen some of the dvds and episodes on teletoon I find that it just doesn't recreate the magic. I think I'd rather save my money and go buy the old marvel comics which I never really read as a kid and find awesome right now. I had the same problem with Transformers, but not with He-Man or The Visionaries.

I am with B.  This isn't a must have.

Now if they decided to include the DIC episodes, then you will have my full interest.  Watching DIC on youtube makes it seem far worse than it is.

What was the original price point from SHOUT?

I ask because I believe the TF series was around $150US and I just picked it up at Best Buy yesterday for $100CDN.

So I am hoping that the JOE set will be close to that as well.

Speak of the Transformers set, I have the entire Rhino set. Does the Shout Factory Transformers have anything that the Rhino set didn't have? I don't recall seeing all those "Head Masters" series that came out after the movie.

So we have the choice between:

Amazon.ca: $125.99 (CAD) including free shipping.

OR

Shout factory: $145.00 (USD) + extra S&H for Canadians + Duty fees

I don't know how, but I made my choice without using an Excel spreadsheet ::)

Looks like the retail pricing may be realistic after all.

Best Buy flyer shows it for $114.99.

Well 2 Best Buys today and no luck.  First one said they didn't get their order. Second one did a little more checking and found no GTA store has an order yet even though it was supposed to be out today.  She said something about Edmonton still distributing them.  Hopefully in the next few days.

HMV in London had several at 119 and Walmart had tons of them, every DVD shop in the mall actually had copies. This is being very well distributed in Canada I guess. I was worried it wouldn't show up here but I couldn't justify importing it from Shout. The retail cost seems pretty easy to handle surprisingly.

Double-check all your discs when you get the set. Mine had FOUR with circular scratches. Should have known something was up when the box lid fell apart on me   :o Guess that one slipped by QC.

The exchanged one looks mint though.

I went to Futureshop here in Montreal Qc (at the AMC forum) today, and found the box set. It was tagged at 129.99$. When I told the salesclerk that I could've sworn to see it for 119.99$ at Best Buy, he went to scan it, and it read 99.99$! I bought it of course. There were a few left if anyone is interested.

Futureshop sold me a set also for 99$ just before Christmas. The funny is, this price wasnt even advertised, and the price tag said 129.99$. I only discovered the actual price when the clerk scanned it for me when I mentionned that bestBuy have it at 114.99$.

Got one today at HMV... $80! They marked theirs down to $99.99 and are 20% off this week. I wasn't going to, but at that price it would be rude not to.

The only way is to purchase one at HMV, then return it to Future Shop with your Future Shop receipt. You'll get your money back from FS that way.

I haven’t seen this posted anywhere yet:
For those who didn’t want to spring for the super duper fancy-pants box set a couple years ago (like me), the complete series is now available in a basic, and a bit more affordable, box set. It appears to have all the content of the footlocker box except for one disc. This set has 16 discs instead of 17. Not sure what is on that 17th disc. If anyone with the footlocker box set can let me know what that is, that would be great.

Anyone know the cheapest place to get it? The cheapest I’m seeing it is for $59.99 at futureshop, though I swore I saw it in store for $54.99 a couple weeks ago. I didn’t get it since it caught me by surprise and now I’m wondering if I am misremembering on the price. I’m thinking Costco might get it, since they had the footlocker set and the no frills Transformers set when they came out. Anyone see it there yet?

Either way it is out there now and the price is a little more palatable.

They aren't on the Canadian Netflix. I HAD to buy the seasons (as well as transformers) as they came out. I've always wanted these episodes and series. Just need Dic Season 2 part 2 and I'm all complete.
