General Joe Talk / What kind of Viper would you be?
« on: August 02, 2009, 02:43:01 PM »
I got this crazy idea for a new thread...we all know that Cobra forces consist of various types of Vipers.  Their names are usually descriptive of their military specialty (ex. Alley Vipers are urban combat, Strato-Vipers fly the Night Ravens) etc.  So what kind of Viper would you be, given your current profession?

olyeller01 is a Paint-Viper.

Cobra, being the international terrorist organization that it is, has significant infrastructure and investment in both buildings and vehicles.  Paint-Vipers ensure that all of those buildings and all of those vehicles stay protected with the latest in paint and coatings technology, ensuring that Cobra's investment in material will last - at least until the next SkyStriker bombing run.

Paint-Vipers use airless paint sprayer technology to finely atomize the paint.  The 3000+ PSI stream that the sprayer puts out can also double as a weapon in a pinch.

Being the villainous and international organization that it is, Cobra only uses paints and coatings from ICI.  This is in direct contrast to GI Joe, which has an exclusive government contract with Sherwin-Williams

General Joe Talk / Anybody have the New PIT?
« on: July 30, 2009, 10:17:14 PM »
Does anybody have the new PIT yet?  If so, what are your impressions?  Is it worth getting?  I'm gonna get a decent bonus check from work next week and I was considering dropping the dough on the PIT but I wanted to know how cool it is.  Also, how does it compare to the original and 2nd gen GI Joe Headquarters?

General Joe Talk / A service for my fellow board members...
« on: July 30, 2009, 10:09:19 PM »
I wanted to start a new thread so my offer didn't get lost in the shuffle.  I was contacted by a fellow board member today interested in the TRU-exclusive BBQ and Firefly.  Considering the large amount of these figures available at my TRU, if any of you wants them, just contact me.  I'm not looking to make any money or anything, so as long as you reimburse me for just the retail price ($7.99 each plus tax) plus whatever it'll cost to ship it to you, I'd be happy to do that for you guys.  I can only imagine how much it must suck to not get or have easy access to all the exclusives.

I'm also interested in trading for (like everyone else) the PIT Commando, Agent Helix, or other ROC figures that I don't have yet.  Or perhaps anything else you guys might have to trade.  Just let me know!  I'll extend this offer for future exclusives, too!

Off Topic / Canadian Questions
« on: July 29, 2009, 10:04:08 PM »
Being new to the site I can't help but wonder how it is for my Joe-loving brothers up in Canada.

The first question may seem like an odd one.  What time of year (and how long of a season do you have) to paint outdoors?  And where do you get your paint from?  The reason I ask is because I work for Sherwin-Williams, and I'm mostly curious.  Even though several of our paints can be applied all the way down to 35 degrees Farenheit, it still takes em like 24 hours to dry at that temperature...and it better not get any colder than 35 until they dry!

Second, I can't help but be curious about gun laws in Canada.  How restrictive is the legislation?  How easy is it to buy one?  How many hoops do you have to jump through to go hunting?

Of course, Texas is one of the most liberal states as far as gun control laws, and fortunately they are trying to make them more liberal all the time.  If someone's breaking into your house and stealing your stuff or threatening you or your family, you can cap 'em.  Also, it's now legal to keep one in your car here, as it's considered part of the "Castle Doctrine."  Previously there were some places you couldn't take your gun even if you had a concealed carry license (mostly government buildings) but I think either that's no longer the case or it will be changed soon.

Last but not least, any of you have any cool guns?  I don't...yet.  I want to get a Springfield XD in .45, an AR-15, and some kind of shotgun before all is said and done with me...

Introductions / New Member From TX!
« on: July 28, 2009, 11:27:08 PM »
Hello, Canucks.  New member to the board here from WAY down in South Texas.  Corpus Christi, to be exact.  I am in fact the very same poor sucker that passed on the $25 Flagg you read about in the June newsletter (all condolences accepted, and all ridicule directed my way is well deserved).

Despite that one glaring error in judgement, I am an enormous GI Joe fan with a pretty big collection.  Unfortunately most of it is in storage, so I don't even remember what all I have!  The 25th Anniversary Line inspired me to fill some holes in my collection, so I now have a SkyStriker, Tomahawk, Mauler, and several other must-haves that I missed out on back in the day.  Some I had to fix, some I had to piece together, and some I just had to clean up and give some new stickers (with a friendly wave to J Ruben).  And I've loved every second of it and fallen in love with GI Joe all over again.

The awesome toys of our childhood can certainly take us back, and I look back on my toys with pure joy, because they gave me so many hours of entertainment.  Some even helped me make some longtime friends!  And I hope that now I will make some new Canadian friends!

So to one and all...YO JOE!
