Nice Piece of Canadian Joe History
« on: October 06, 2004, 04:10:54 PM »

Found a nice piece of Cdn GI Joe history at a toy show over the weekend and wanted to share it with everyone here. I managed to find a really nice Cdn MIB Zartan with sealed contents and the schizo FC. Now, the most interesting part of this deal wasn't so much the toy but what was inside...a newspaper clipping from 1984 which contained an article talking about toy stores across Canada and the US pulling the schizo Zartan off the shelves because of complaints from various mental health organizations.

Items like this aren't really worth a whole lot at all but they're a very interesting part of toy history and are very difficult to find. I've scanned it up in two parts so everyone can enjoy it:

I paid $110 Cdn for everything which i think is pretty fair. Here's some pics of the Zartan:

But like i said, i was more excited for the clipping than the toy! LOL...

That is so cool Shane!

Notice however, that sadly the two stores mentioned are now gone.

Cool find there Shane.  I bet their are more newspaper archives on this story in Canada (circa 1984).

The moral of the story......regards of time, people will find something to bitch about.  And how many freaking kids at that time knew what a "paranoid schizophrenic" is.  Funny story of people over reacting.  Man, I hate to bring these yahoos into 2004.  They would have a heart attack with video games alone.
