They wanted you to do an event?
I invited them and told them about the Joe Meet - and they had to meet a 'deadline'.

The hobby doesn't have a deadline -- so a show about the hobby shouldn't either.

I'm sure Scrambles episode will be great, but I can't help thinking how much cooler it would of been to have them at the Joe Meet filming Scramble and Raps run the painting contest.

yeah, i was told i needed to be ready to rock n roll by mid-february.

it just wasnt a 'fun' way of doing it. i understand thier deadlines and needs for entertainment. unfortunately i just didnt mesh with mine.

all the power to this thing though, id love to see the episodes.

Hey..... Scramble hasn't updated us on this - and I just spent most of the last 3 days with the guy!

To be fair, no one asked.

I did the show and had a lot of fun doing it. The theme of my segment is "showing non-fans what it's like to be a fan". Me and some friends played my original board game "Men and Their Toys" and we had a mini-amature speed painting contest. I was also filmed painting a Zandar custom, the very figure I entered in the Custom Contest at this weekend's Meet.

I did do paintball even though it was not one of my hobbies. During the interview I said as often as I could that this was my first time, I'd considered playing before but was never willing to pay the cost, that it didn't reflect my interest in GI Joe. So hopefully a little honestly comes out of the show's most contrived segment. Truth be told, I did enjoy the paint ball experience and am considering playing again.

So if Zombieguide and Aire both backed out, I guess I'm sharing an episode with Alyosha, unless someone else came along later. Funny, because for all the pimping I did for Joe Canuck, Joe Customs, Maurauder John, and MOTH, the only bashing I did was people with Alyosha's attitude about making a buck off their fellow collectors. I didn't mention him by name, of course.

I agree that the three person speed painting in my social room does not compare to the fourteen people, including experienced customizers, that we had this past Saturday, and the show would have benefitted from attending. Sadly, it's not just their loss.

I find it kind of interesting that after all the assurances Jennfier gave us when she joined the boards that the show would depict fans and collectors in an "honest" way, the two people who participated both say they were asked to do things that really wasn't that honest.

No surprise there. ;) Still, i'd be very interested in seeing it and congarets to Scramble for going ahead with it all!

Wow, lots of developments since I last posted here.  Glad to see some of my warnings and provided documentation were heeded somewhat ;)

The show isn't not airing any more on TVtropolis.  So is it's a mute point now.

But, if you have not seen the episode:

I remembered them, but mostly I kept in mind what Mick Foley said in his first book about the news magazine show, Dateline I think, that manipulated footage to make it look like he approved of something he said he disapproved of.

I remeber while I was in Guelph taking my kids through Stone Road Mall on a leisurely walk on a winter's day.  There was a reporter from that bation of journalistic integrity, the Guelph Mercury, asking is big box stores would shut down stores downtown.  I said it has already happened already to a point as the Sears (I think) in the center of the downtown was already closed.  But then I said that most of the smaller stores downtime would be in less jeopardy as they serve their respective niche markets.

The day the paper hit the streets, there I am on the front page, smiling big. quotes as saying "You mean it hasn't already happened?" and that was it.  I got hate mail and phone calls for a week.

If nothing else, be careful what you say and how you say it.  Lesson learned.  And that lesson serves me well as a supervisor as well.  People will often twist words to suit themselves.

And that is the reason why I don't say much during my work inspections.

And that's why I say as little as possible when inspectors come to my workplace!

Absolutely, I even mention that in my popular convention rules and guidelines page under number 19.

"Remember, you have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misquoted, taken out of context and used against you."

The media isn't there for you, but them to get what they want.  Even being careful I was deceived by a reporter from CKCO in December 2006, but not as bad as the Guelph Mercury situation described :O

At least this wasn't as bad as some louts in 2006/7 who went to scifi/anime conventions and actively insulted organizers and attendees alike during and in post-production and were banned/kicked out.

Individual results may vary and I'm happy when media choose to report on fandoms as is without fraudulent tactics.  I've been involved with cons, charity and other fandom organization elements for over a dozen years in administration, security and hospitality so I am rather passionate when it comes to fair portrayals and treatment of those of us who gather and celebrate our pursuits.
