Title: Turner's Customs
Post by: turner on June 05, 2011, 07:32:28 PM
I'll start posting  my customs in one thread.  For starters, here's Frostbite!
Looks kinda mad, I think maybe Snow Job put a scratch on the Snowcat!

Next up, Slice and Dice!  These guys took some work!  For Slice, used green stuff for the removeable mask and the leggings.  Had some compatibility issues with the upper arms, had to dremmel the shoulder sockets.  Added the fabric ribbons.  Greenstuff for the throwing star and dagger on the sleeves.

For Dice, used Tunnel Rat's bandana for his bandana (cutting/dremmeling), dremmeled and sanded off the padded rows on the viper forearms.  Cut the viper forearms and straightened them.  Green stuff for some of the viper pad/strap.  Used Wolverine Colossus knee joints modified to fit and altered for the shape of the knee pad.  Removed the accessories from the para viper upper legs and sanded.  Mixed paint for the purple and the skin tone.  Used ROC Storm Shadow ropes, Hard Master star and greenstuff (I think) for the arm band.  Also crazy kitbash on the web gear.

Even the photo session on these guys turned out to be a bear, had trouble getting the red to show up right.

Hey guys, long time no see!  I just did this project for a Stargate original character custom contest.  Check it out!

With SG-1 missing, the SGC exhausts all available means to determine their fate.  With the help of their allies, a desperate plan is enacted.  Traveling on a Tok'ra cargo ship, Colonel Matthews along with SG-6 is sent to rescue SG-1 from a mother ship currently landed on a planet with no stargate.  Assisting with the mission is Horshack, a free Jaffa and friend of Teal'c.

Next up:  Ninja Force Zartan and Silent Castle Red Ninjas, with special guests: Slice and Dice, and Zandar!  I had this done months ago, just posting them now.  Did a bunch of work on this one!  Check out the tricky parts:  Zartan head with hood removed, greenstuffed the hole and mixed skin tone for it.  Added mohawk from MU storm.  Arm shield cut and dremmeled out from Resolute Storm Shadow lower arm.  Thigh sheath from two Copperhead leg sheaths (and two copper head knifes).  Also I modded the left thigh to change it from the cobra commander pouch to a continuing leg strap.  Star Wars chain for the shoulder chain.

Special thanks to Daremo for the outstanding ninja weapons for the Silent Castle Red Ninjas!

Ninja Force Zartan!

I didn't match the green to the vintage.  Now that I've taken the pictures, I think I'd like to match the green closer to the original.  At the time, I didn't even own the vintage version, and that particular color of green I used was just a nice color, went on smooth and not too thin or thick.

Uhhhh, dang man.

That's awesome.

It's too good. I thought my stuff was decent but you keep on raising the bar.  :-[

Seriously, very good work.

I LOVE that Zartan. I want one.

BTW, that shade of green looks fine. I wouldn't change them. Maybe paint the boots black, but the pants are fine IMO.

Custom CHROME Cobra de Aco!!

I did the Cobra de Aco before there was a convention version, but the head wasn't actual chrome.  This version is genuine, 100%, professionally done, sweet and beautiful chrome.  The chrome looks fabulous in person, but I had a time trying to get the camera to do it justice.

LOVE IT! Great use of the Rex hair.

I'm guessing you had to crack the torso down to 4 pieces to get chromed then shaved the sides and re-glued her back together?

BTW, another Timbit. She's just awesome.
Title: Re: Turner's Customs
Post by: turner on January 12, 2012, 02:29:52 PM
Thanks man!

Yeah, I cracked the torso and all that.  It took quite a bit of work to get it back together too.  The legs were tight in the hip sockets, but I had to actually dremmel the shoulder sockets, and inside the torso, and the neck ball, and the arm parts that go into the torso.  Plus painting the blue and skin tone over the chrome and painting the scarlett legs (in place of the pilot scarlett leg warmers).

Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil in one post!  Chrome White Mortal and Cobra Mortal with Athena!

First up is a character from Venezuela, White Mortal!  I know some of these characters are not as widely known, so I included some information on their 80's counterparts.

Next up is Cobra Mortal!  This is actually my second version of this character from Argentina, and I'm still not happy with it.  I'm thinking I would have liked it better if I had used the same upper legs as I did on the White Mortal, but then I would have needed two more parts chromed...

What paint are you using? The paint looks thick and like it would crack if the joints are bent plus I can see areas where the original plastic is showing through.

I'd suggest doing a quick pass with spray on primer first next time (white or grey) and then painting. That way you don't have to go as heavy with the paint.

Too bad they never made a pure white Snake Eyes. Then you could just rit dye the thing and not have to worry about painting.

I use model master acryl, yeah I didn't go through the trouble on these of dremmeling down the joints and reducing joint rub.

I have some Model Master in my drawer but I primarily use citadel acrylic paints. I used Model Master on that Rock Viper figure I posted in my customs. They had the best match for the brown on his helmet.

Did you guys know a Night Viper drives an old Chevy?  Had this Night Viper done for a long time, maybe a year or more, hadn't posted it yet.  I actually didn't own the vintage version until more recently, so now that I have them in hand, I can see some inaccuracies.  This guy took some work though:
-Removeable helmet, night scope, and pack from Raginspoon
-Custom rifle kitbash
-Removeable web gear with removeable knife
-Added leg pegs for the rifle
-Removeable knife in boot sheath
-shoulder pads
-bullet arm band
-arm patch
-green cobra logo (modified cobra stickers)

Check him out!

I really like the night viper. Where did you say you got that head from? Raginspoon? Who is that and does he still have more?

Thanks Morg, here's the link: http://www.raginspoon.com/

Great, high quality stuff from this guy, he actually learned from Aly (the Brokenarrow guy) and uses the same quality materials.  He's really got a lot of good stuff up for sell.  The Duke head was from him and I've also gotten another couple items from him.  The helmet came already dremmeled out, very nice.

Thanks!  Really the cobra mortal still just doesn't seem right.  I like how the white mortal turned out but not the regular one, the legs just aren't right.  Oh well, I've got some others projects I've had done or almost done for a long time (10 months...) I may post hopefully soon, including Billy, Venom, Joe Colton, GI Jane, and another round of Oktober Guard guys.

In issue 127 of the comic run, we learn that Jane was the nurse for the original Joe team which at that time was headed by Joe Colton.  So, this is Nurse Jane and Joe Colton during the early years, before the formation of the Joe team in 1982 by General Flagg and Hawk.

I based Nurse Jane off of the 12 inch GI Nurse as released in 1967.  I got the reference shots off the net.  No, I don't actually own one of those.

I took the pics in my big Pitt I started about 3 summers back and hadn't really worked on since.

Here's Joe!  I was wanting to use this head for Joe for a long time, but I just wasn't wanting to shell out the money for the figure to get it.  In the meantime, I noticed some other tankers used it, and then I was able to get one myself when they went on sale after Christmas.

The credit belongs to the Lord, I thank Him for doing these with my hands.

The Rhino vehicle came with Bruce Sato and another version of Matt Trakker.  I think I liked the Rhino version of Trakker better than the Thunderhawk version as a kid, and I still do.  I think it may be my favorite of this project at this point.

Matt uses parts from about 5 joe figures and 1 wolverine figure, plus accessories from 2 more joes.  The Mask actually didn't come with the neck flair, so had to greenstuff that, as well as the thigh pads, belt buckle, hair, and lower torso armor.  Dremmeled/sanded/greenstuffed the tunnel rat upper leg to remove the leg straps and pouch.

I want to thank all the guys who helped me out getting the parts for this project.  The mask items in this post came from (best I remember) joe grizzly and jay, thanks fellas.

Next up, BRUCE SATO
He uses parts from 6 joe figures and 1 Indiana jones figure, green stuff for the chest armor, side and back straps, side pouch and straps, forearm padding, boot tubing on the lower legs and feet, knee pads, and belt.  Dremmeled/sanded/greenstuffed the pouches on the breaker upper leg.  The lower torso retains articulation (the straps and lower armor is not attached to the lower torso, the leg with the pouch also can move.  The paraviper knees had 4 pads and the cartoon Bruce had 3, so I dremmeled/sanded the paraviper pads off and greenstuffed the 3 back on.

Thank You Lord for allowing and enabling me to do this.

These two had some similarities, aside from the greenstuffing needs which are not unusual for these characters:
-they both needed gloves and I ended up cutting joe arms, attaching a peg to keep the articulation, and using different star wars gloves
-they both have stripes down the arms
-they both have a mask which I altered

Since many of these mask helmets were designed to extend from the shoulders up, I tried to keep from "pushing" them too far up by using green stuff instead of removable accessories on the shoulders, and trying to do the green stuff thin.  However, there were 3 or 4 masks I just couldn't seem to get to sit low enough.  Two of them were Brad's and Dusty's.

I cut Brad's in half horizontally, removed a layer, and put it back together with green stuff filling gaps.  Dusty's I enlarged the view shield with green stuff so it would line up with his eyes better (the vintage one also did not line up with the eyes).

Also, this project is primarily based on the cartoon version of the characters, but I decided to include pics of the vintage figs with them anyways.

Awesome - I missed out on MASK as a kid (mabe saw an episode or two), but finally picked up 7 vintage figures in a cheap lot of 80's toys. Pretty cool, and your versions are spot-on.
Star: Amazing attention to detail - really looks like something that should be produced and sold in stores.
Wish: Some of their helmets seem to sit a bit high on their heads (long neck syndrome), but maybe that is unavoidable.
Question: Are their MASK message boards you can post this on? I bet they'd love these!

Thanks for the comments bro :)

There is a mask forum and I've posted them over there as well.  They don't have much traffic though.

As for the long neck syndrome, some are worse than others.  I actually cut the Gloria mask to make it shorter and used green stuff for the back lower half to get it to sit lower on the torso.  I cut brad's also to shorten it, and enlarged dusty's visor so his eye line would be closer to right.

Thanks!  Been working on some vehicles!  Condor, piranha, gator, and volcano!  If I get them done, could take a yearor so though.

Got Alex sector painted, need to finish painting his mask.  Got buddy hawks painted except for the head/neck/hands.

Thank You Lord.

Alex Sector and Buddy Hawks were originally included with the Boulder Hill playset, so I'm posting them together along with some "Fun at Boulder Hill" shots.  Based this project on the cartoon versions not the figure versions as much.

Title: Re: Turner's Customs
Post by: turner on October 02, 2013, 03:18:44 PM
Krexx is the sculptor that has done the majority of items that are available on the angelforge (the site that sells the items previously available on sds/trigate).  The angelforge doesn't currently have the masks for sell, but they have told me they were planning to offer them.  If anybody is interested, I would think emailing them might encourage them to make them available.  Here's the contact link: https://shop.theangelforge.com/contactus.sc
