The MOC Joe Canuck (He's baaaack!)
« on: September 03, 2005, 09:09:11 PM »

So Ken (Navajo) was up a few weeks back, and informed me that he's 'done' with collecting. Since he may be selling off some items, he brought me the MOC Joe Canuck figure from last years meet.

He said he'd like me to display it in here.... but that's not why I made it.

So, what would be your take on it guys?

Should it just hang on a wall here in the store?

Use it as a door prize at the next meet?

Convince Ken to get back into collecting and make him take it back.

Anyone?
:-)

Hmmm....it's really up to Navajo if he wants to go back to collecting or not.

I say for now, it should have some 'shelf/wall-display' time in your store because that is a nice piece of work that local Joe fans who've only heard/seen it on the net, be able to see in person. And for those who've barely seen it at the meet, have a good look at it again.
About being a door prize at the next meet, we'd have to be extremely careful about this. One of the stipulations to being a winner is to be trustworthy enough that it won't appear on something like Ebay.

One contest you can do is make Canadian collectors submit pics of their Joe collection. The biggest and best display would win Joe Canuck. That way, we'll be sure the Joe Canuck figure will be hanging on their wall with the rest of their collection.
My prediction: The winner could be a toss up between Ed, Pete, or Spillspeen, just judging by the size of their collection.

Dude, you're so attached to it (and concerned with its fate) that I really think that giving it away to anyone would be a mistake.

Give it a permanent home on display at the store. I think you have more emotional attachment to it than anyone else. This way, you'd get to look at it at work everyday, but it wouldn't be part of anyone's collection.

Another option, one that I don't really agree with, is to put it on eBay and let the proceeds go towards the next JoeCanuck get together.

The down side that I am not a big fan of is, what if it only rakes in about $10!  that would suck.

Jon, I'm not 'attached' to it. My main concern was it ending up on ebay with MY store name on it - that leaves a trail, and my ass 'could' be sued.
I most likely wouldn't of been, but that was my concern at the time. (Still kinda is).

As for listing it on ebay Aaron, that brings me back to my reply to Jon.
I KNOW It would go for more than $10.00.
Heck, I think everyone on here would make a bid for at least 10-40.00
(Pete?) ;-)

Ken emailed me saying he'd like it to stay here in the store, so I'll respect his wish - since it IS technically still his. If he gets back into the hobby, he can take it out of here anytime he wants. That's the only way I'd agree to it being on display in here.

But it's not going on the wall.... too many folks are going to want to see the back of it, so it's easier to have it in the 'locked' case.
:-)

I'd say throw it up in the shop and come nexy year have it as a door prize but only for the people that were the Joe convention from 2004, almost like a second chance at that figure. i know personally I'd love a second shot at that guy.
Either give everyone one ticket and that is it, or sell tickets like we did in 2004 and the winning cash goes to Ken, as this figure already collected money from all of us in 2004.

Winning cash goes to ken, that sounds like a good dodge for the "no selling" agreement. I think that that's fair, and gives everyone a chance to hand him around.

Mind you I don't really collect moc anymore so I might just open him on the spot. ;-)

Kidding.

I do collect some MOC.

I would. Or trade it for a "loose" one.

the locked display  case scenario seems the best to me. People will be able to see it and that way its sure to be safe from ebay.

I am fine with any of the suggestions mentioned on this thread, except for ebay.   There is a big part of me that wants this piece to stay in the southern Ontario area.

Well, Southern Ontario is the birthplace of the Canadian Joe Meet, heck, it's already spawned a Quebec chapter!

The selfish side of me says "Have another auction for it at the next Meet" because I'd love another chance to own it. But I think the best option is to leave it on display at the heart of GI Joe collecting in Canada, Bounty Hunter Toys.
