Ok I thought it would be an idea to run a separate thread vs. the general question one for the show. As some may know I have on occasion made a costume or two, including stuff from GIJOE.
So what should I do this year?
a) Snake-Eyes (again)
b) Beach Head (I have all the gear again)
c) ShipWreck (won't have the bird but I can piece together the rest)
d) Firefly
e) one of the above
-or-
f) make a suggestion and if there is a general consensus I'll try to run with it.
Just lookin' to have a little silly fun in the process, looking forward to May 2nd :)
EDIT - though I appreciate the effort in posting a poll, I can NOT do two costumes as I have already mentioned due to logistics... I will consider the votes posted in replies over and above selections in the poll.
-
Added the poll option for you Sid.
People can vote for two outfits at once.
I still say you go for two outfits for the day!
Say, Firefly and Shipwreck!
-
My first vote, was Beachhead, but on the poll their was not a spot for it. So my second choice is Firefly
-
Are we talking 1985 sailor's cap Shipwreck or Devil's Due Shipwreck? I'm on board either way.
-
got to go BH man.
-
Actually, if it's the current Shipwreck, then I'd pass. I'd rather see the traditional original one, with sailor cap and blue shirt.
-
I voted for Firefly there but Beachhead would be cool to see too.
-
It would be the classic version of ShipWreck if I do it, however I am personally edging closer to going ahead with BeachHead. :)
-
If you do shipwreck, you coud put a sqwackers mccaw on your shoulder for polly :P
-
I am still trying to source out a cheap toy or stuffed parrot for the shoulder, that is likely to be a huge deciding factor in what I choose.
-
Looks like Beach Head will be the costume of choice and I'm waaaay cool with that. :)
Maybe I should find a way to bring my Aliens Colonial Marine armour (http://http://www.neoengel.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=94&pos=16) and M41A Pulse Rifle (http://http://www.neoengel.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=94&pos=17) instead :P

Beach head will be cool but it will be awfully hot under the balaclava

Well last year I wore black head to toe with a facemask of the same material, but also with additional mesh material covering the eyes with the visor. With Beach Head there will be more ventilation than the other mask as well as more skin will be exposed (example sleeves rolled up, no cloth gloves) allowing much more airflow :)
-
The people have spoken.
Beach Head it is!
Here's a test shot, on the right track?

I was thinking about using the new marine MARPAT for the pants and trying to source out a green shirt to wear instead of the black, but as it is I like the direction it's going.
Also I have a NERF Longshot that's painted up black and OD Green (http://http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/neoengel/sid-nerf-bullpup-pulse-rifle-tagged.jpg) and it has a video camera mount, will make for some interesting/fun video :P
-
You should go with a Green shrit to have Green Sleeves.
Go for more realism!!! Do the green! :-)
-
...trying to source out a green shirt to wear instead of the black...
That's my only suggestion. Looks great.
-
The problem is that it'll cost me a chunk of coin for something to only wear once and I've already searched our huge Value Village in town for something to use... nadda.
Regardless I think the outfit is looking great... I wanna use the MARPAT for it though :P
Thanks guys, keep the comments and suggestions coming :)
-
Well, if you're going for the Beachhead look - then I still stand with my suggestion of Green sleeves.
It's like dressing as Flint and weaing blue pants. We know what you're going for, but the pants don't do it justice.
-
Go green. It's all the rage.
-
What about a darker/paler green similar to the mask?
-
Ideally the green shirt should match the mask.
You really don't see yourself wearing a green shirt ever again?
-
I've just gotta watch the sheckles, but I will keep an eye out for one.
Oh, here's the latest fixer-upping I've done with my NERF Longshot. And yes it still fires the foam darts :P

Awesome!
-
I have to go with the others with the green shirt, it totally adds another level. Dont break the bank on it though, just goto winners or a thrift store

looking good man cant wait.

That's exactly what I've been up to, and considering I'm at least 6'4" with considerable amounts of flesh on my frame it's difficult to find something adequate even for normal wear and tear at an agreeable price.
At this rate the only other possible option is an old C.F. Green Jacket - but I like the ACU design shirt as it tucks into the pants better.

-
I'll check an army surplus store in London and see if they have any green shirts that would work for you. The green is the way to go I'll be stopping by there today anyways.
-
Well if you're buying it for yourself and just loaning it out to me for the day to get it back all sweaty, cool and thanks :) However if it's not a light material (like the old thin C.F. top shirt/jacket I took a pic of earlier) then no thanks, gotta be able to breathe ;)
-
The Green Jacket would look MILES better than the black one, just sayin.

Even if the mask doesn't match that jacket?
-
I know it will be hard to get a red beret but if you have like a red toque or something that you can fold up and put on your vest shoulder, maybe get a black band that you can wrap around to attach it. Not sure how good it will look but just curious if something like that would work.
-
Green and Green is still better than Black and Green in my opinion. ;-)

True that - I had another thought, what about a matching top to the pants instead, either MARPAT or the previously displayed woodland BDU?

I was thinking about working around something like that as well - still looking :)
-
I found a nice light long sleeve shirt that would do well for every day wear as well at a different used clothing shop that had gone unchecked.
The shirt more closely matches the mask than anything else yet and although the top part won't be as green as that seen in the figure, it should satisfy the fans who prefer green over black.
Photos later, I think y'all will be impressed ... Once that's done I will work on recreating the badge on his arm.
-
Here is another test shot, keep in mind that the colour of the mask and shirt matched better under normal light. There is a different shirt that's a brighter green at that shop and the folks there said I could exchange - but I kinda like this.
Thoughts?

It looks wicked.

Thanks :)
Here's an added touch - an attempt to make the "75" Badge/Patch on the left sleeve (Colour is a bit off in an attempt to match the shirt for outfit).

Alternate costume.
Yes I am bringing 2 after all, will also allow me to change out into something more mundane for the travels to and from.

Simple and to the point. Looks great.
My son is looking forward to seeing you again.
-
You need a beard!! Even if it's a fake one. :-)

Thanks, should be fun !

I had one up until about 2 hours before the photo, it wasn't going to be suitable for the outfit nor for just having one either, I think it'll pass muster regardless :)
I found my grappling hook I was going to use for Beach Head and will rig it up to look like the anchor that ShipWreck has.

Sweet bird, btw!
