I have a facebook account, although I rarely use it. Doesn't impress me, and the security implications it presents from a personal information point of view are questionable, to say the least.

I would think that doing anything "official" regarding the meet or the site exclusively on facebook is an inherently bad idea.

I wouldn't do anything 'exclusively' on it - just maybe leak a preview picture or outline picture there before here. ;-)

Not that I've done that or anything......  :shifty:

You misunderstood what I meant.

Here's what I meant.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/08/22/fa ... ct-future/

This is scary as well:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/02/08 ... _security/

"Beacon" is a good example of Facebook's motives.

http://www.alleyinsider.com/2007/11/fac ... beaco.html

Also, this shows how stupid the average facebook user is in terms of security.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/fac ... 08684.html

http://www.webuser.co.uk/news/147313.html

So while *YOU* may be careful, the people you a have on your friends list may not be - so if their accounts get exploited, then the exploiter has access to YOUR profile as well.

Facebook is in this to make money. They make money off of selling your personal information and habits.

See here:

http://avilesnews.blogspot.com/2008/01/ ... users.html

They also reserve the right to do something like this without prior notice:

http://the.ricethresher.org/opinion/200 ... violations

Some more info regarding their policies, and how they work AGAINST you in terms of privacy:

Quote
Here is some corresponding legalese about cookies from the Facebook privacy policy:

?Advertisements that appear on Facebook are sometimes delivered (or ?served?) directly to users by third party advertisers. They automatically receive your IP address when this happens. These third party advertisers may also download cookies to your computer, or use other technologies such as JavaScript and ?web beacons? (also known as ?1?1 gifs?) to measure the effectiveness of their ads and to personalize advertising content. Doing this allows the advertising network to recognize your computer each time they send you an advertisement in order to measure the effectiveness of their ads and to personalize advertising content. In this way, they may compile information about where individuals using your computer or browser saw their advertisements and determine which advertisements are clicked. Facebook does not have access to or control of the cookies that may be placed by the third party advertisers. Third party advertisers have no access to your contact information stored on Facebook unless you choose to share it with them.

This privacy policy covers the use of cookies by Facebook and does not cover the use of cookies or other tracking technologies by any of its advertisers. ?

Now you might ask: isn?t that some kind of breach of contract? Well, according to their terms of service, Facebook can do pretty much anything with your information that it wants.

?By posting User Content to any part of the Site, you automatically grant, and you represent and warrant that you have the right to grant, to the Company an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to use, copy, publicly perform, publicly display, reformat, translate, excerpt (in whole or in part) and distribute such User Content for any purpose, commercial, advertising, or otherwise, on or in connection with the Site or the promotion thereof, to prepare derivative works of, or incorporate into other works, such User Content, and to grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing.?

I will be there.

As for the thread detrailing part, I hate myspace. I hate navigating through people's profiles with monster sized pictures, hearing some lame song playing in the background, the number of fakes on there, the porno type of cards people send etc. Meh, it's a cesspool of crap.

As for Facebook, I can deal with it.  But when I went to check my privacy settings last week (haven't done it since joining), I was shocked to see that those bastards had changed them.  I had to change everything back to "people I now" that can view my stuff.  The reason why I went back to check is that I have been hearing alot of shit on the news in terms of what I call invasion of privacy.  Police, schools, employers, sports athletic boards, third parties etc. are accessing peoples profiles and .  Gee, I wonder why they profiles were getting accessed (insert sarcasm).  But I am not worried about I D theft.  Most people don't know that Peter or Pete isn't my legal name.

My older son and I will be there.  If I am adventurous that day, both my sons will be coming.
