How long should a car battery last before it needs replacing?

No longer than 5 years....thats what the company mach. says...after that you are getting a bonus...and most batteries need replace becuse they become not as reliable...!!

My car battery is a 97.  I'm having trouble starting if the weather is really cold, but other than being really cold, it still starts.

Should I replace or use until it dies?

I only have about 110k on it.

They are not really exspensive so i would replace it...what if it dies in the middle of no where...then the 80 bucks is nothing compared to the trouble caused by a dead one...!

Take a break from buying Joes and get a battery.
I have a piece of shit Areostar that I drive.... but I make sure it runs good.

I don't care what the vehicle looks like, as long as it runs good..... which my crappy van does. :-)

Hmm..

My car's a 96. I bought it new in 96 and have never changed the battery. 230,000km later and it still starts like a champ on the coldest morning.

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones..

Thanks Pete

That helps explain some stuff.

I'm not sure if I'm charging my battery well, since the longest drive is to work which is about 15min (some on highway though).

Anybody got some suggestions on a good battery?

I havn't had any problems  with the two  Motomaster batteries I have owned .

The only thing I will ever  buy  from  Crappy tire's  auto  dept   is  tires and batteries...    never ever  ever have work done in thier  garages.  they tried to rip me off on  saying i needed a break  job,  right after I had my car checked out at the dealership   where evrything was givin a good approval .

I was thinking maybe of Costco, but I guess it's been warmer and I haven't really had any trouble starting it.

Sounds like one of your cells died. I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. Starts fine except for the coldest of nights. I had to buy a new battery for a car that is dying.  :(
